About meAhhh, books. Publishing pundits are always sounding the death knell for the printed book, but we all know differently. No slick e-reader can replace deckled edges and smooth, worn covers, or the satisfying heft and warmth of a favorite book. There's nothing as delicious as the smell of a clean old book -- have you ever noticed that libraries with a long history smell a little like toasted books?

I have a bookstore in Vermont and am a writer with one book out so far. LibraryThing is a dangerous new habit for me. Some day, I plan to scan in all the obscure old happy paperbacks I've entered, like Mr. Pudgins, whose covers really should be available to admire.

About my librarySo far, I seem to be entering books mainly from my childhood library. I'll get the grown-up books in there, little by little. I guess that many of the most magical books were the ones I read from ages 8-14. It's been fun to see that there are other readers out there who also loved some of my less-well-known favorites, like She Was Nice to Mice and I Was a 98-lb. Duckling. Silly, happy books. Happy reading!

Hi Elizabeth,
You are WELCOME for the five star rating!! I loved reading Dogs on the Bed, as do my young library patrons.
Happy Reading (and writing), Lisa (Rickmaniac)
Elizabeth! Hello! Thank you for your very nice comments about The Adoration of Jenna Fox! And for spreading the word! You are the best! (I remember you from YANovels! I signed off during a deadline and never got back on) I hope I make it out to your store in some of my travels.

cheers, Mary
PS Sorry for the delay in my reply. I don't check in at LT very often.
Oh my goodness, "She Was Nice to Mice" and "I Was a 98 Pound Duckling" -- thank you so much for jogging my memory!
Mr. Pudgins! I read mine to tatters.
P.S. I loved Mr. Pudgins!
Hi Elizabeth,

I came across your name at your unused LT account...there couldn't possibly be another ebluemle!? I'm Lois from the Toadstool Bookshop (land of mega-amounts of dog biscuit-shaped cookies:-)...I wondered why you didn't have yourself tagged a LT author, now I know why.
Holy gamolly! You own the fabulous Flying Pig! I've been there- not as often as I'd like, since I was living on the other side of the "pond" in the 'dacks. I worked as the school librarian in a little town there & I can't tell you the number of people that told me I had to visit. The store's newsletter floated around the town library on a regular basis. It's a wonderful place.

Ironically, I've missed two years of new releases while getting my MLS. I'm glad to be a little ahead of the curve with yours and look forward to reading it just as soon as I can. Congratulations on all the good reviews- may the librarians sit up and take notice!

And yes, I read all those Paul Zindel books... and the Active Enzyme Lemon-Freshened Junior High School Witch! Wow. I'd forgotten that one... and his McGurk's detective agency books, too. I'm about to troll through the rest of your blast from the past titles. Yep- 8/14. I'm a little younger, but not too much. My small town ADK library didn't weed much.

Thanks for everything- the great bookstore, the trip down memory lane, and for adding what is ubdoubtably another wonderful children's book to the world.

Kate
Hi Elizabeth--

Thanks for writing. Why else be here except to meet other readers?

Corey
That's fantastic! I'm a degree from someone who wrote a published book about MAD! And I know an author too! Gotta love this site..

Miss Suzy is a childhood favorite of mine (I am circa 1974). I forgot about librarything until I got a message about your reply tonight and now I'm hooked again (plus lifetime membership) so I've spent four hours cataloging books.. I've barely started. NEvermind work in the morning, what's work when there are literary priorities..

And nice to meet you!
