Hi I'm new to Librarything, trying to find my way around. I saw your review of -I think it was Eclipse, who can tell them apart - I howled! You're right- "love" was 1/6 of the book- but how about Edward's various smiles- crooked, quirky, firm line, etc, etc-- or should I say ad nauseum.... I was in your position. I'm a public librarian, and all the tweens and teen females are swooning over Twilight. They were constantly pestering me to read it. I pretended I'd read it too... So then I had to slog through it. YA has become such dreck. (and I hate the term YA) I'm older- 47 - and the two younger librarians swoon over this stuff too.... I try to keep reminding myself of pub. libraries' primary mission these days.. to provide ELI (Everyday Life Information) and to just get kids to read something... but even Harry was better than Edward and Bella.. oh well...

Not sure who you mean by Papa, but guessing from the other two listed, Hemmingway?
I went to a freinds house and copped a copy of Unbearable Lightness of Being. It's going on the bottom of a long list, but it has been talked up enough for me to be curious.
Currently reading The God Delusion and The Sheltering Sky as well as Mythologies and the short stories of Nabokov.
Hey, you got time in your life for 4,000 words or so of mine? I am getting stuff done out here.

Also, for your personal background, check out Gustav Dore's illustrations. He did the Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, Bible, a bunch of others.

Dante. With Dante, it's all about the translation. The Robert Hollander is the best. Also, don't stop at the inferno. That's not how the story is supposed to work. It would be like reading just the first act of Streetcar named Desire and trying to take a greater meaning from it. Do the whole Commedia. Worth it.
As for Donny Q, if i can be inspired listening to Burroughs, I'm sure you will get something out of it. Pass a link on will ya?
