About meI grew up in a sawmill camp close to the Idaho Montana border, not far from West Yellowstone. I return in the summers to live in the forest, still the best part of my life.

I am a writer, an artist, and an ardent reader. I have led a book group for over thirty years. I taught high school and university students for many years. I also taught the deaf for a few years and it was there that I met the boy I wrote about in A THOUSAND VOICES, A MEMOIR. It was in having a large hand in raising this boy that I began to learn what language is and what the intricate steps in acquiring it involve.

A friend and I bought a Bed and Breakfast twenty years ago and it has been a most satisfying endeavor. We have guests from all over the world. They delights and keep us up to date. It's especially nice for me because I live at home and have the solitude necessary for writing.

I am presently getting UNMOORED, a novel, ready for publication.

My paintings, mostly oils and many of them landscapes, are in public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe.

About my libraryOh my. I love my books. They dominate the house. I have a large art studio with a twenty-foot bookshelf. Novels, particularly literary fiction is highly represented, from classics up to Michael Ondaatje. There is a good collection of books on nature, particularly trees, flowers, plants, grasses. I love to fly fish and I have a solid collection of fish lore.

More books occupy another twenty or thirty feet in the living room. Here are the hard-bound collections of anthologies, biographies, art books.
