As a teacher, most of my reading is now done in the holidays, so I don't get through as much as I would like or used to. Still buy more books than I read! I'm a pretty eclectic reader, but favourites include nineteenth century classics, Eurocrime, history, historical biography, science and travel. About my libraryBooks catalogued include those in my library and those I've read since 2003. I tend only to give ratings to books for reading, so usually don't include reference or text books. I'm really sorry but I just realised my library wasn't quite up to date. I did start The Children's Book but couldn't get into so I actually left it in Turkey. Could you choose another one for me - sorry to be a pain.

I have the books published so far, strange that they don't seem to be re-issuing them in chronological order though.
I'll get round to choosing my challenge for you soon.

Please could you read Shipping News by Annie Proulx because I really liked it

Thanks for the challenge, not sure how I came by the book but I seem to remember picking it up in my local Waterstones and reading the first few pages and ending up buying it. For your challenge I have decided to go for fiction this year and have chosen 'Middlesex' by Jeffrey Eugenides, I read it a few years back and remember enjoying it very much, a real quirky read. Hope that's ok but if not let me know and I will pick another.

We do have different tastes in reading but I was very impressed with your collection. Thank you for choosing Steig Larssons book for me, I can't wait to get started.
I have chose for you Jane Austin, A Life by Claire Tomalin. It's a book that would interest me (believe it or not!) so I would be interested in what you think of it.
Hope you enjoy

Thanks so much for the challenge. I've read a few Dickens' but not for some time, and I've never read Bleak House. However, I've had it earmarked as one I must read soon, so I'm really pleased to get the challenge!
They have the DVD set of the adaptation in the local library. I nearly borrowed it the other week, but thought that I would wait until I had read the book.
I'm really looking forward to this one!
Thanks again,

I see that we are amongst a select band of Thingers already to have a copy of Simons Schama's Scribble. Have you started it yet? I am dipping in here and there, it being the anniversary of 9/11 and all. It is like confectionery for the mind. I just finished his piece on Isaiah Berlin. Wonderful.
Best regards,

Thanks for challenging me with the Siege of Krishnapur. I remember either the Book Club or A Good Read was talking about it on Radio 4, and it sounded really interesting and full of humour. Of course, I had to have it, and then I had to have Troubles, then The Singapore Grip, not that I've read any of them yet! Anyway, I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I'm really looking forward to reading it.
My challenge to you is Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. I read it about 8 years ago and found it was one of those books that stayed with me and I didn't realise how much I enjoyed it until I'd finished it. Hope you enjoy it too.

Thankyou so much for my challenge. I really enjoy non-fiction and I love getting my teeth into huge books so this is the perfect choice. I couldn't resist buying this when it came out as I find Hitler a fascinating character. I'm just glad you didn't challenge me to read Mein Kampf (although I am determined to try and read it one day).

I must apologise because I was doing my librarything a few months ago when my computer brokedown. We have just got a new one and are back in the e-world. I hadn't tagged my books as unread before the breakdown! I have done now and have found that now I'm back online people have chosen books for me that I've read. My fault I know!! I have read Wuthering Heights many years ago when I was 17!! I absolutely loved the book! (One of few I think). I would love to read it again but does that count? I must apologise, I have updated my library and am continually doing so, if you would like to choose me something else that that's fine too. Hope it's not too much of an inconvenience. Many Thanks Michelle

Sorry I was away when you joined the boards. I have seen your post that you challenge me to read Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. That's great, I have been meaning to catch on up on a few classics for a while now.
I would like to challenge you to read The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis - I have been on a crusade recently to read more women's sci-fi and this book looms large (I read it on holiday last week - I really enjoyed it and OH did too!), and I would love to hear your views on it.
