About meUntil recently I never considered myself a book 'collector'. While books have always fallen into my orbit one way or another it was usually for their content rather than collectability. Of late however, I have found myself more and more seduced by beautiful or interesting books and have gone to substantial lengths to pick up an out of print rarity. Nothing wrong with a bit of object fetishism.

About my libraryI mainly read books which appeal to my punk sensibilities, so anything about rebellion or bohemia or anarchy is endlessly attractive. But I also enjoy artifacts from a cosier, chintizer time of cushions and corsets and pipe tobacco. Thankfully for me, there is a huge crossover between the two: little is more 'punk' than a dose of dandyism. Smash, may I venture, the system.

In addition to being the proud owner of this private 'library', I also work as a librarian for a university library and an NHS electronic library. I have a Masters degree in Information and Library Studies and write a column about libraries in The Idler called 'The Librarium'.

Of late I have become fixated upon the 'SF Masterworks' series published between 2000 and 2007 by Orion. I aim to acquire and read all 71 volumes by the end of 2008!
