Hi xorscape,
Thank you so much for the books Instead of the book about the beats (which I would have loved) I got Neil Gaiman's "Fragile Things" (also a good choice by LibraryThing. However, I did get "Legacy" which is absolutely perfect.

Again thank you and Happy Holidays to you!

Stephanie aka AuntieClio
You know, I've stopped buying books for a while, even ebooks. The next season of the Walking Dead starts Oct. 14th. I can subscribe on iTunes and that's a no brainer. I forget, do you like zombie fiction?
I haven't read any of those zombie rewrites, but a movie version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is supposed to come out and when I heard I hyperventilated.
Gah! Tech is hard to keep up with, and you and I are only on the consumer end of things. Science tech...I don't know if it would be possible to keep up with.

I'll take meds to fix things, knock on wood that I have never needed anything major. Thanks for the kind words for mom, your mom is in my prayers, too. You've got some hard choices to make, and you may not be able to do anything. Personally I'd rather never go into a home but my parents love it. If your mom is hell bent on staying out, let her stay out, but brace yourself for her falling and don't blame yourself if anything happens. Whether she goes into a home or stays independent, you know (and I know) that you've done what's best for her.

I really like my Fire, but the surface is glass and is reflective. You can see yourself, you get glares, reading in the sun would be a pain or impossible, the battery life is fairly short so if you use it often you'll need to recharge daily, there may be some initial eye strain reading because it's backlit. There's a new Kindle called PaperWhite that's like an ordinary Kindle reader but is backlit so you can read in the bark. I guess what you need to decide is what you want to do with it (mostly read or read and watch movies, etc.) I do know that I would not pay the $500 for the top-of-the-line Kindle, way to much for just a little more. If I were going to buy a Fire I'd go with the new HD model. It costs the same as the old Fire version, but if you don't want the ads that come with all new Kindles you have to pay another $20 bucks to opt out. I kind of groove on the ads because there are some deals displayed. If I were going to buy an e-reader, I'd probably consider the PaperWhite because I could read in the dark.

Hope this helps. You have some time because the new Kindles aren't even shipping yet.

I can't imagine what it's been like for her, either.

So you're digging your Kindle? I like mine, too. I use it for reading, but mostly for watching Netflix movies and playing games. I'm a little leery of putting a lot of books on it, though, because the pricing is such a mess and the formatting can be really messed up. Still, it's a great Gizmo and it really is convenient. I'm starting to see more and more books on the subway, but I'm not sure if that reflects a trend or is just something I began to look for and noticed what was already there.

Last night I watched 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' and that was a gas.
Oh.mah.kaw. I even looked at the site today and how did I miss those? I loves me some zombies.
I guestimate that I've downloaded almost 200 books to my Kindle since 12/25 and have only spent 100 bucks. Man I love free stuff. I also bought an USB cord so I can download stuff from Gutenberg and Archive.org. I'm a late adopter for tech gadgets and am really having a blast with all the apps, books, movies, etc.
I am having a weird love thing with my Kindle. Srsly, falling for it was a no-brainer.
