Thanks for the heads up on your book. I will look it up. You might be interested in a blog that I am hosting "VoteforJesus.blogspot.com". In it, I serialize a devotional I wrote a number of years ago based on the wisdom book of Proverbs. Again, thanks for the the heads up. Have a great day.
In regards to my initial impression, it was largely based on production values of cover art - literally, judging a book by its cover! It was an off-sized paperback, with what seemed to me to be a less-than-professionally designed cover. There were too many images/fonts/color combinations going on in one place - I assumed offhand it was self-pub or vanity press. I was rather overjoyed that the content did not match the cover.

I think the biggest challenge to designing a cover for the book is the length of the title. I assume this challenge would be met with an austere cover, perhaps accompanied by some sort of symbolic image (the scribe's pen crossed with the dagger perhaps). Instead, you have the images large and small, commentary on the book, the title, and the author's name all appearing in differing font colors and sizes!

I'm sorry for the harsh critique, but you said you wanted the information. I readily accept that everyone has a different aesthetic, but a formula I design by is that when the text is complex, keep the imagery simple. The book's cover goes the opposite direction.

Cover aside, the paper, print, and layout of the book are all good. Was there a particular reason you went with the offset size instead of a trade? I'm curious what the motivation was there,
Thank you for your note. I would be happy to post the review on Amazon and BN, but I am not familiar with Powell's. I will give it a shot however.
