Trickster's Choice is very good indeed, although there are several books that came before this one. The Song of the Lioness Quartet (main character is Ali's mother), The Immortals Quartet (main character is Daine, the wildmage), and The Protector of the Small Quartet (I'm not sure whether the main character of this series is mentioned in Trickster's Choice).
