Children can be so confused and frightened when parents have to leave for an extended periods. This book is an awesome teaching tool for young kids. Cute bear illustrations and words that little kids understand. With explanations on why daddy has to leave, how they can communicate with daddy while he's gone and how they can deal with their emotions.
A book highly recommended for military parents with young children."<br>CreateSpace (2009), Paperback, 24 pages

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake

<img src="http://pics.librarything.com/picsizes/ce/5b/ce5b4e0fed93db65932492b5667426141414141.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> NWADEL's review: "..She kept speaking into the microphone, her eyes on the man across from her, whose fingers had closed on the button.
A line from one of my favorite parts of the book. When I first started reading this book, I had a hard time understanding the writing but after reading Ms. Blakes explanation of why she wrote it the way she did, it all came into perspective. The author intertwines the reporter and the war with the families at home, doing their normal daily routine, not affected by it. The title The Postmistress leaves the question, Who IS the Postmistress? The story set in 1940-41, early World War II, main characters are Emma, newly married to Dr Will Fitch. Iris, the postmaster of the little Cape Cod town. Frankie, a radio news reporter for Edward R Murrow, reporting in London. Dr Will Fitch, the small Cape town doctor, gets the news that Maggie is in labor and goes to her. In the meantime- Frankie Bard finds herself in the middle of the bombing, running for cover, lands in a bomb shelter. What happens to Dr Fitch and to Frankie, changes their lives forever and Iris, the postmaster, does the unthinkable, holding onto a letter, keeping it a secret. This book isn't a shooting, bloody war story its about emotion. About how the people that are not in the war don't want to hear about it, don't want it to affect their life but in the end, if affects everything. It doesn't add up.

My favorite character is Frankie - she a tough-bold reporter, willing to face anything for &quot;the story&quot;. My least favorite is Iris - she seems like a snobbish prude. The other players in the story are Harry, the towns &quot;watchman&quot;, he believes the Germans are coming and he keeps watch for them. Otto is a quiet man in the town and everyone thinks he's a &quot;Kraut&quot; and the town people are leary of him, thinking he's a spy.

is an adventurous , intriguing and mysterious story. Even if your not a Christian lit . fan this book will keep you entertained!

For guys, it has plenty of air fighting action. I like how the author describes Moshe flying his jet . Moshe's jet is an F-161 Barak Lightening : &quot; He reacquired his tactical display by looking at the panel just above his left knee. He immediately saw that the Jordanian planes were climbing towards the north. As their altitude allowed his radar to paint them more clearly, he was able to see that each triangle represented a formation of four&quot;....

Captain Moshe Eldan is a Jewish F161 Pilot. Not a religious man until his wife attends an Ezekiel Conference and learns about the ancient prophecies of Ezekiel.
As his wife tells him what he learns, Moshe is somewhat fascinated.

God is impressing upon Ty, a Pastor of a small town church, to prepare His people for the the future. Ty gives a stunning, powerful sermon and it has ruffled some feathers! Ty is being approached by the deacons about his sermon, they want it stopped! But the Spirit is not letting him, he must continue to do Gods word.

I don't want to say to much more or I'll be spoiling it for you! An action packed story with a deep meaning , a highly recommend reading!"<br>American Book Publishing (2009), Paperback, 328 pages

The Book of Samuel: A Novel by Erik Raschke

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0312379692.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> NWADEL's review: "Samuel and his friends don't like the Mexican kids. They're always harassing them and one day the Mexican kids stole their expensive bikes. Jonathon and Jesse had enough and they are out for revenge. Samuels dad spends morning, noon and night reading and studying the Bible. He starts to think that he can save the world and one day, he leaves the family to do just that.
Samuel's mom is depressed and cries all the time, his Grandma hates everyone. Samuel's friends decide they need to do something about the Mexicans so they order a kit in the mail and it comes with instructions on how to create a pipe bomb.
Grandma has medical problems and ends up in a nursing home for round the clock care and no one knows where his Dad is. His mom decides to move her sisters troubled son in with them and Samuel problems escalate with a girl at school and his whole world is upside down.
I really enjoyed reading this book, sometimes I wanted to hug poor Samuel and the end was a surprise. Definitely recommend it."<br>St. Martin's Griffin (2009), Paperback, 256 pages

The Grudge by Dennis Wesley Clark

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1439223424.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> BookSurge Publishing (2009), Paperback, 398 pages

Hard Way Home by Dennis Wesley Clark

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1419684361.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> NWADEL's review: "Thirteen POW's in Vietnam find out about a 'purge' and must escape to save their life. They each have to decide their escape plan , either by walking home, walking to Thailand and turn themselves in or escape out to see. What I like about reading this was the pictures. Pictures of the country, the diagrams, the routes. It helps in visualizing the scene.
There are some very sad parts and parts where my heart was racing, anxious and scared! The back of the book says ' This fact based fiction novel leaves the reader questioning what is real, what is fiction, and what is possible.' Thats what I'm wondering! Its definitely a powerful story. I haven't read the end yet and I'm anxious to see what happens. There is also a sequal novel, The Grudge and I can't wait to read it. I highly recommend reading these."<br>BookSurge Publishing (2008), Paperback, 390 pages

An Accidental Life by Laurel-Rain Snow

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1419639412.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> NWADEL's review: "The story tells of four teenage girls, each coming from a difficult home life.

Bridget, living with her Mom Karin, who is divorced and is a social worker. Bridget's a quiet girl, with one friend, Fawn who is out of town visiting with her father for the summer. Feeling lonely, decides to go to the mall, something her and Fawn used to do together.
At the mall she is confronted by two girls from school, Wendy and Bree.
Wendy, who lives with her mom Donna and two younger brothers. Donna's had a tough life trying to support 3 children by herself, working nights in a bar while Wendy takes care of her brothers.
Bree also living with her mom Sara. Sara's had some ups and downs involving loser men, drugs and alcohol.
After shopping in the mall, Bree and Wendy talk Bridget into going with them to hang out. Bridget's shy and feeling sort of nervous, decides she wants to have some fun this summer so leaving a note with her mom, heads out to the lake with Bree and Wendy.
Everyone is having fun, smoking, drinking, Bridget still feeling overwhelmed. Savannah, another girl from school, meets them, hands Bridget a joint. Bridget's never done this before and after inhaling it, starts coughing. Everyone laughs but feeling the effects, she starts laughing to.
Savannah who also comes from a broken family. A brother Tommy, her mom, Mary, a druggy and alcoholic, her dad, in prison for drug possession.
These four girls continue to hang out, calling themselves the Four Musketeers but along the way, making poor choices, and their lives drastically change.

The story also introduces the girls social workers and how their lives are affected by their job and how they live. With some surprising twists and turns!

The author , who is a retired social worker, adds her expertise in the field which leaves you wondering, what is truth and what is fiction?

He goes into detail about how he feels during the fire and after. He tells about his time in the hospital, how he feels about his suicide and the impact it had on his family. Despite the very seriousness of the subject he adds in some lightness and joking which makes it a very interesting read. There is some profanity and sexual talk."<br>Vintage (2005), Paperback, 336 pages

Receive Me Falling by Erika Robuck

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0982229801.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> NWADEL's review: "Meghan and Brian are engaged to be married but after their grand engagement party, her life changes. She's now the soul heir of her parents estate, one of which is an old plantation home on Nevis Island, previously owned by Cecil and Catherine Dall in the 1800's. Wanting to know more about the mansion, she decides to take a leave of absence and go to the island. As she is finding out about the history of the island and the plantation, she is told some devastating news and needs to sell the land and house immediately. What will happen to Meg when her parents estate is sold? Meg is worried about her future.

Back in the 1800's - Cathrine, daughter of Cecil Dall own a sugar plantation on Nevis Island. They also own over 200 slaves . Catherine runs the plantation , her father is a drunk and his health is failing. News around the island is that abolitionists are trying to ban slavery in the British Empire. The plantation owners on Nevis are not happy about it but they don't think it will pass. Two men come to visit Nevis, stating they want to learn more about the sugar plantations, but are they really? A neighboring plantation was set on fire and everything is gone, was it arson and did the abolitionist have something to do with it? Catherine is worried about her future, what would happen if they lost their plantation or what if her father died , what would happen to her?

The end of the story will &quot;blow&quot; your mind!

Can't give to much away! If you like historical fiction, i highly recommend this one. I loved reading about the island and decided to see if it was real and ohhhh i wish i could go and see it! Arissa, married 2 years has lost her beloved husband while working a restaurant at the Trade Center.
The author poetically details Arissa's memories of her husband and how she attempts to deal with the grief . As Arissa tries to get on with her life, she faces the accusing stares , like she was part of the cause of the attack, the enemy. After receiving some life changing news she knows she must get past the grief to move on.
The book is written so beautifully, at time poetic. I highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed. The food she talks about will also make you drool!

&quot;I held the book up to my ear. I willed for it to bring back the laughter it had once given us. I shook it, tugged at it, as if worrying it could give me back some past moments.
