clothingoptional's review: "Strange book of first contact told from the point of view of a zombie on a ship captained by a vampire. Nominated for the Hugo and I can see why. The book feels like 2082, written in a literary style. If you like books with action, this one really isn't for you. However, if you enjoy reading first-person narrative that explores the nature of humanity you might enjoy this. I spent most of my time skipping forward in hopes of seeing the vampire in action. Watts does a good job of making them quite creepy."

clothingoptional's review: "A fantastic read. Well-deserving of the Hugo nomination. The marketing blurb on the inside of the dust jacket tries to tie Brasyl to Bladerunner, but really I didn't see it at all. However, what Brasyl turns out to be is a fantastic romp through three time periods in Brazil. McDonald gives a great overview of quantum theory to boot. As a whole, quite wonderful. Yet, I would love to see McDonald write an entire book set in 16th century Brazil. This is really the strongest part of the book and a subject the author truly loves."
