Nominated for the Hugo and I can see why. The book feels like 2082, written in a literary style.

If you like books with action, this one really isn't for you. However, if you enjoy reading first-person narrative that explores the nature of humanity you might enjoy this. I spent most of my time skipping forward in hopes of seeing the vampire in action. Watts does a good job of making them quite creepy."
Tor Books (2008), Edition: 1st, Paperback, 384 pages

The Kingdom of Bones: A Novel by Stephen Gallagher

clothingoptional's review: "Paranormal? Well, it's really up to the reader to decide but Gallagher raised the hair on the back of my neck.

I really enjoyed this book, though I thought more work could have been put into Sayer pugilist skills."
Shaye Areheart Books (2007), Hardcover, 384 pages

Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay

Roc Trade (2008), Paperback, 432 pages

Fleshmarket Alley: An Inspector Rebus Novel by Ian Rankin

Little, Brown and Company (2006), Mass Market Paperback, 576 pages

Brasyl by Ian McDonald

clothingoptional's review: "A fantastic read. Well-deserving of the Hugo nomination.

The marketing blurb on the inside of the dust jacket tries to tie Brasyl to Bladerunner, but really I didn't see it at all. However, what Brasyl turns out to be is a fantastic romp through three time periods in Brazil. McDonald gives a great overview of quantum theory to boot.

As a whole, quite wonderful. Yet, I would love to see McDonald write an entire book set in 16th century Brazil. This is really the strongest part of the book and a subject the author truly loves."
Pyr (2007), Hardcover, 357 pages

Obernewtyn (Obernewtyn Chronicles) by Isobelle Carmody

Starscape (2003), Edition: 1st, Mass Market Paperback, 256 pages

A Question of Blood: An Inspector Rebus Novel (Inspector Rebus Mysteries) by Ian Rankin

Little, Brown and Company (2005), Mass Market Paperback, 544 pages

Ragamuffin (Sci Fi Essential Books) by Tobias S.
