The author Wendy L. Cohen is a registered nurse and experienced in homeopathic healing. She begins the book with the traditional approaches to diagnosing and treating Chronic Pelvic Pain. She then goes on in the majority of the book to discuss a path to healing. This is the most important and useful part of the book. Bladder disease and Chronic Pelvic Pain. Even when patients go down the normal path treatment healing is seldom quick or complete. Cohen's apporact is a holistic path to developing a good environment for good bladder health. This makes the book useful to both sufferers of Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain and those who suffer with chronic pelvic pain in general. I am not a physician or a trained medical person, but from the point of view of a layman, the book looks to be very helpful for those suffering from this disease."<br>Hunter House (2010), Paperback, 288 pages

How to Find Work: in the 21st Century by Ron McGowan

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1551808587.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> southsiouxlibrary's review: "Review of
How to Find Work in the 21st Century by Ron McGowen
Review by
Dan Nieman

Ron McGowen displays an excellent grasp on the 21st century workplace. The fundamental change that this book grabs and runs with is “finding work” rather than just “finding a job”. Life coaches and those interested in mentoring and motivating workers have preached this principle for some time, but McGowen has coupled the message and the motivation with a solid strategy for finding work.

The first section of the book deals with the changes that have occurred in the world economy over the past twenty years. The current workplace is more mobile and transient than in earlier generations. Our fathers or grandfathers took a job and thirty years later retired, if they were lucky enough to keep that job. The 21st century worker has to look at having multiple jobs over a career in the workforce. This is both good and bad. We cannot rely on the pension from the company anymore: this is the bad side. The good side is that if we have to take a job that is distasteful, we can remind ourselves that this is only for a season. McGowen deals with temporary work, contract labor, volunteering etc. He also deals with how to get hired and how to minimize the risks of not being hired.

In the second section of the book McGowen deals with evaluating your skills and putting them together in a package that will be saleable to a company. The author digests into a few pages many of the types of tools used by career counselors and mentors use in helping the job-seeker to define his profile, skills, abilities and the types of jobs for which she might be qualified. I have gone through whole books to learn what McGowen presents in a single chapter.

He spends the rest of the book dealing with “You-The Brand” types of issues. He is able to concisely cover multiple aspects of personal marketing, special considerations for those with a post-secondary degree, as well as dealing with issues from the perspective of guidance counselors. Each chapter has self-quizzes and activities to make this book particularly useful. A CD-Rom is included, which adds value to the book.

McGowen does a fine job of delivering his message in this book. The book is handy for the job-seeker, mentor or librarian who works with people who are in job change mode. This is a very timely and useful book for this job market. I rate this as a must read."<br>Self Counsel Press (2009), Edition: Pap/Cdr, Paperback, 264 pages

Life on Wheels: The A to Z Guide to Living Fully with Mobility Issues by Gary Karp

<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1932603336.01._SX90_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; clear: left;"/> southsiouxlibrary's review: "Life on Wheels is true to its name. Gary Karp takes the reader from the beginning of an illness or injury, which would leave one needing to adapt to life in a wheel chair to being fully engaged in a rich, full life. The author is systematic in dealing with recovery issues: physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, identity and sexual issues dealing with a disability. He is thorough in discussing wellness issues, dealing with the reality of being a disabled person, choosing whealchairs and adaptive equipment, sexual and familial issues, as well as becoming an active, vital part of the community.

Karp is sensitive to the concerns of a person with a disabling condition. Yet he is realistic in bringing up the challenges taht await a person with a debilitating condition.

This is an excellent work for anyone who finds themselves somewhere on the path to a healthy, integrated life while in a wheelchair."<br>Demos Health (2008), Edition: 2nd, Paperback, 400 pages
