Secret Santa

gortavoher's Secret Santa is theabdullah. Help theabdullah pick the right book.

caras_galadhon: The Civilizing Process by Norbert Elias is an interesting sociological discussion of the evolution of social attitudes.

The Secret Life of Pronouns: What Our Words Say About Us by James W. Pennebaker is about the psychology of language, and how it impacts storytelling. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 14:32:45 -0500)

caras_galadhon: For historical fiction, gortavoher might enjoy the Sharpe series, since I see they have other Bernard Cornwell books, starting with either Sharpe's Tiger (chronologically the first book) or Sharpe's Eagle (the first book published).

The Poldark books by Winston Graham might also be a good choice, starting with Ross Poldark. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 14:36:41 -0500)

Dear Gortavoher,

I hope my selections weren't awful, I opted for one book off your wish list. I have to confess that I haven't read any of the books I decided would be interesting. They all seem to be well received and are books I would not mind reading myself, I might pick a couple of them up for myself. It was a fun looking for books. I hope you have more fun reading them. Sorry if they all turn out to be awful. I tried to get newish stuff that I have not heard of. Now ideally that is a bad idea, however I wanted to take a risk and have some fun with the selections. Now, now, they were calculated risks. Its not as if I just picked random books. I also did not want to get you a series because I myself prefer standalone. That was my though process picking books. If they do turn out awful, I am the equivalent of Santa so you should be asking yourself why YOU ended up on the naughty list. Have fun, Merry Holidays!

Yours Truly,

-Abdullah (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 17:32:08 -0500)

lorannen: Removed My Husband's Wife (B01IOHQ8CO)—gortavoher already has this book. (Tue, 18 Dec 2018 18:41:45 -0500)

lorannen: Replaced My Husband's Wife with The Secret Life of Pronouns (B005E8AB16), suggested by caras_galadhon.

Done. (Tue, 18 Dec 2018 18:46:27 -0500)
