I love romance, particularly historical and contemporary. My current favorite authors are Sarah MacLean and Kristen Callihan. I am also partial to romances from the Avon imprint. Most importantly, I like romances with strong heroines. No damsels in distress or women too stupid to live, please.
I am also an avid nonfiction reader, particularly history. I'm especially interested in reading about strong women, Southern history, military history if it's not too technical, well written true crime, current events/political science, and historical European royalty. I have been especially interested in the role the press plays in democracy, such as All the President's Men, so I would be interested in any similar titles.
Lastly, I do read some general fiction, but I have become pickier. Please see my "Don't get this!" for some additional guidance. That said, I think A Gentleman in Moscow may have been one of the best books I've read this decade.
Don't get this!
I'm not a fan of the following: self-help, religious texts, conservative/right leaning current event titles, anything about the Trump administration (Fear by Bob Woodward was enough), dystopian, and horror. I am very picky when it comes to science fiction and fantasy, so best to stay away from that genre unless there is something you think I would absolutely love.
For general fiction, I've lately found a lot of it depressing, which is hard to read when a lot of the world is depressing too. My preference is to read things with happy endings, if possible.
Also, I am pregnant with my first child, so I am struggling with fiction or non-fiction that depicts harsh or dysfunctional family relationships or are filled with tragedy, especially involving children. Lastly, no children's books please. My baby is the child and grandchild of librarians. Her book collection will be well taken of, I promise.
My library is up to date as to what I own/have read. Most of my ratings hover around 3 stars, so anything above that caught my interest. I also hate reading series out of order, so please don't buy me a book midway through unless I have the others. Many thanks to my Santa in advance!
