Book tastes

I'm a fan of fantasy and humor, but I'm willing to branch out into sci-fi and historical fiction. English, Spanish, and French books are all fine. Adult or YA are both fine. Graphic novels are fun too. I prefer hardcover books to paperback -- in fact, I'd rather get fewer hardcovers than more paperbacks.

Don't get this!

No horror or urban fantasy. No non-fiction, although humorous memoirs are fine.

Secret Santa

shabacus's Secret Santa is readafew. Help readafew pick the right book.

mmseiple: For something funny in Spanish, Sin noticias de Gurb by Eduardo Mendoza. An alien looking for his partner in Barcelona and trying to figure out the local culture. (Mon, 03 Dec 2018 13:16:07 -0500)

Cfraser: for science fiction - Ancillary Justice series by Ann Leckie (received this from a previous Santathing)

The Eyre Affair and others by the same author (Jasper Fforde). Lots of laughter and as the santee appears to have read extensively, a book about a literay detective seems appropriate. Crosses between fantasy, sci fi, humour etc. (Wed, 05 Dec 2018 22:14:28 -0500)

readafew: Thanks Cfraser for the Jasper Fforde hint.

I went with the Eyre Affair because I think Jasper Fforde is an excellent read for consummate readers of fiction. His books are filled with meta humor on top of just being an enjoyable read.

Since you like Graphic novels I added Girl Genius, I absolutely love reading these books. You can read them all online, but I personally like owning the artwork and helping support the artists by buying their work. I really hope you like these too.

Finally, I chose Carmer and Grit, a fun Young adult series that I feel needs more exposure, a great story and another I really enjoyed. I'm glad to see that the 2nd book has been released in this series which I'll have to get soon.

I hope you really do enjoy reading all these selections, have a great Christmas season! (Wed, 05 Dec 2018 23:03:14 -0500)

lorannen: Removed Agatha Heterodyne (9781890856502) due to availability. Replaced with Ancillary Justice (9780316246620), suggested by Cfraser, and Rivers of London (9780575097582), recommended by LT's "What should you borrow?" feature.

Done. (Fri, 14 Dec 2018 03:57:59 -0500)
