Book tastes

Historical Fiction is my favorite genre. I love a well written book that makes you sorry to leave it’s world or breaks your heart a little. Some of my favorites include All Quiet on the Wester Front, The Thornbirds, Cannery Row, Anne of Green Gables, Ender’s Game, To Kill a Mockingbird, The World According to Garp, Memoirs of a Geisha, My Antonia, This Burns My Heart, the Millennium Trilogy, The Moon is Down, The Godfather, Angela’s Ashes.

Don't get this!

I have a lot of Steinbeck, Amy Tan, and Lisa See. I am not generally a fan of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or Mystery.

Comments/suggestions

TheFlamingoReads: Happy holidays, acorbalis!

I hope you enjoy the books I have selected for you. I chose "The Sojourn" because you like "All Quiet on the Western Front". It's a beautifully written book much the same but with a different narrative and hero's story. I chose "The Forgotten Garden" because it's an intriguing book by one of my favorite authors. My SantaThing gifted my with the same book and now I've read all of Kate Morton's novels. They are a fascinating trip through time and how the past shapes our present. I also chose "Year of Wonders" - I hope there is enough money to get this for you - it's a story of the plague and how one village managed to survive as told through the eyes of a family maid.

Again, I hope you enjoy these books and that you are having a wonderful holiday season!

Cariola: Just a few suggestions (although I see that your gifts have been chosen): Pat Barker has written two wonderful series about World War I: Regeneration, The Eye in the Door, and The Ghost Road all deal with the effects of the war on soldiers and the people in their lives; Life Class, Toby's Room, and Noonday trace the lives of three young art students and how both world wars affect their lives. Her most recent, The Silence of the Girls, focuses on a woman taken captive by Achilles during the Trojan War--it's wonderful! Barker is a wonderful writer and is very insightful into the effects of war on the human psyche. (Mon, 03 Dec 2018 13:23:23 -0500)

TheFlamingoReads: Ah, by the time I got around to filling out the order form the price of that last book had gone up. Instead I chose "Water for Elephants", another great book that takes place during the Great Depress

ion. I hope you enjoy it! (Tue, 04 Dec 2018 12:32:09 -0500)
