I am very interested in learning more about Jamaica, especially the history and the culture, and most of all the native Patois language. I write and take photographs as a reporter for the local paper; I really love good photography, historical or current. My LT library is mostly an historic snapshot of my book collection that disappeared in a disaster over 10 years ago, and does not necessarily reflect my current collection or interests. Of the genres in my library, I am still very fond of cyber science-fiction especially written by women, graphic novels, historical fiction (especially alternate histories, particularly written by women), poetry especially written by marginalized people and those from other cultures and parts of the world, edgy humor, and off-the-beaten-path YA. I’m extremely busy and have stacks of books I’ve been meaning to get for years, so short reads and books with lots of pictures are best for me right now.
Don't get this!
No religion. No self-help. No parenting advice. No themes of cancer or grief; we lost our firstborn Liberty, a former SantaThing recipient, to DIPG brain cancer in December 2015 after a 4 month fight -- unless you’re a bereaved parent and it’s the best you’ve ever read.
I spend a lot of time on the Love for Liberty Arnold-Simon DIPG Foundation for my daughter as well as volunteering with Girl Scouts. Books relating to these would work as well.
