Book tastes
Eccentric fiction. I like picaresque novels, novels that mix light and heavy, fiction that confounds expectations while being more than just an intellectual game. I like writers who don't fit in to movements or trends. Short stories are good. Doesn't have to be modern, I'm especially interested in older curiosities. Check out my "favourites" collection! Or the NYRB or Dalkey Archive lists. I'd like to discover a new (to me) author.

SqueakyChu: For short stories, I'd get Men & Cartoons by Jonathan Lethem. For a "different" novel, how about The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Andrew Sean Greer or The Muse Asylum by David Czuchlewski? For eccentric fiction, perhaps select the somewhat older book Spider (published in 1990), by Patrick Mcgrath, describing a man's descent into madness. (Sat, 28 Nov 2009 18:55:53 -0500)
christiguc: Perhaps some Stefan Zweig? (Like Amok and other stories for short stories or The Post-Office Girl). Or The Crime of Father Amaro by Eça de Queirós might also be a good fit. (Sat, 28 Nov 2009 23:25:43 -0500)
