Book tastes

Rachel is a 5th grader who reads significantly above grade level. She loves dystopian fiction and fantasy. She is beginning to enjoy romantic elements in her reading. She has recently set a goal for herself to branch out to other genres so feel free to get one wild card book. Examples of series she loves (but already owns): Hunger Games Selection by Kiera Cass Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan

Don't get this!

She absolutely hates horror or anything overly scary, violence is ok (she loves the hunger games) but ghosts etc. are out. She is 10 so while she can read on an adult level lets stay away from overly sexualized romantic themes

Other notes

Please look at my profile to ensure you don't choose something we already own. Also the "Rachel's Room" collection will help you get to know what she likes.

EclecticAli: She might like Drake and the Fliers, by Allison Maruska!

"Sixteen-year-old Drake can’t understand why the virus spared him. The only survivors he’s seen vandalized his makeshift dwelling, and despite his sister’s dying wish that he connect with others, he spends his days alone – that is, until he shapeshifts into a dragon.

While exploring his new abilities, Drake nearly flies into Preston, another shifter. Their chances of survival increase if they team up with others like them, but when their search leads to a group in Las Vegas, they find not everyone is welcoming.

As Drake develops new relationships, Preston endures daily confrontation and eventually takes off on his own. Concerned for his friend’s safety, Drake launches a search and stumbles into a situation stranger than anything he could imagine. Now he must embrace his animalism if he wants to save his humanity. mcfitz: I'm unable to check your library, but I would suggest "Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow" by Jessica Townsend, "Gregor the Overlander" by Suzanne Collins, or any of the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer. (Tue, 27 Nov 2018 21:22:29 -0500)

mcfitz: Oops, I forgot "Foundling" (Monster Blood Tattoo #1) by D.M. Cornish. (Tue, 27 Nov 2018 21:23:48 -0500)

Krither: Hey, I chose books that I have loved, and hope you do as well! :) (Fri, 30 Nov 2018 22:10:36 -0500)

Krither: I just updated my list, as I noticed that one of my choices (The Mysterious Benedict Society) had been selected for your other Santee, Jacob. (Fri, 30 Nov 2018 22:53:17 -0500)
