Secret Santa

BloodyMaryShelley's Secret Santa is normandie_m. Help normandie_m pick the right book.

RidgewayGirl: They might enjoy the cemetery of forgotten books series. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is the first in the series. (Wed, 28 Nov 2018 11:16:49 -0500)

xenophon: Zafon would also be my recommendation. Another possibility is Robert Wilson’s Bruce Medlow series. (Thu, 29 Nov 2018 17:11:22 -0500)

normandie_m: Hello and Merry Christmas!

My library has quite a few books in common with yours, so hopefully I've picked a couple of titles that you'll enjoy. I'm giving you An Ember of Ashes since you're already keen on reading that yourself, but I've picked two other books that I've previously read.

The Bear and the Nightingale I read last year - it's the first novel of a trilogy about a young girl in medieval Russia with the ability to see spirits (from Slavic mythology) and who forges a connection with Morozko, the winter king. The second book (The Girl in the Tower) came out earlier this year and the third book (The Winter of the Witch) is out next year.

The Night Circus is a book I was given for SantaThing a few years ago. I found it not unlike Assassin's Creed in some respects - the protagonists are illusionists who have been raised to be enemies by their father figures and engage in a contest that spans years. There's a starcrossed lovers element to it as well. The writing is beautiful and highly descriptive.

Again, hoping you enjoy these and happy reading! (Tue, 04 Dec 2018 20:52:48 -0500)
