Book tastes

I'm liking memoir, nature, and philosophical/social commentary books right now - but not books like comedian or celebrity memoirs because I don't like those. I'm also really loving steampunk and urban fantasy. My favorite authors are May Sarton, Rebecca Solnit, Neil Gaiman, and Carl Sagan, but my long-time favorite book is The Secret Garden, if that helps any. I'm trying to expand what international authors that I've read.

Don't get this!

No comics right now - I have too many to catch up on already. No religious books.

Secret Santa

fields.steph's Secret Santa is ryvre. Help ryvre pick the right book.

Aula: Ben Aaronovitch's 'Rivers of London' series, perhaps? Urban Fantasy, often funny, set in London. (Tue, 04 Dec 2018 02:12:21 -0500)

ryvre: Backup choices in case prices change or something goes out of stock:

Alchemy of Stone 1607012154

The Secret History of Wonder Woman 0804173400

Paper Girls vol 1 1632156741 (if something cheap is needed to fill extra budget)

ryvre: Hi fields.steph! I hope you enjoy these books. I chose:

A Darker Shade of Magic, one of my favorite urban fantasy books from the last few years.

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi - both address feminism and womanhood from a non-American point of view.

H Is for Hawk was recommended by another user, and it seems right up your alley.

And finally Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. It's a little outside what you're looking for, but it filled up the leftover budget nicely, and it seems in line with other books you've rated highly. (Specifically Octavia Butler's books.)

Have a great holiday! (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 11:21:02 -0500)

lorannen: Had to remove Binti (0765385252) due to budget—prices went up.

Done. (Fri, 14 Dec 2018 01:31:48 -0500)
