Zadie Smith and Ellen Ullman (I have read all their books or will soon), and science fiction. I loved The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin and I'll read the rest of the trilogy on my own. More in that vein, please. I prefer literary science fiction to the hard stuff, but The Three-Body seems to have straddled both genres. I liked The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather and would love to know who the contemporary Willa Cather is. I've been reading about Appalachia (I've read What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia by Elizabeth Catte since I've spent most of my days on coasts (if Toronto counts as a coast).
Don't get this!
Anything from the Remembrance of Earth's Past (I'll read that on my own) or Zadie Smith, Ellen Ullman, Elizabeth Catte or Willa Cathe (ditto).

reading_fox: Sleeping Giants? Ninefox Gambit? Long-Way to small Angry Planet? All are not-hard-SF of a literary bent following the characters rather than the science and technology. (Tue, 04 Dec 2018 05:57:11 -0500)
libraryperilous: Kent Haruf's a good contemporary author similar to Willa Cather, if one wants plains states-set domestic fiction about strong women. His The Tie That Binds is 14.17 CAD, ISBN 0375724389.
