I'm looking for books for my son, whose account is at LiamSpalding. I have two requests. This request is for fiction books. The account is now a little dated. (I'll try to have it updated by Saturday morning. And if you order something he has, I'll see and change it.) Liam is now 12. He is a young 12 in many ways. He is not interested in love and such boring things. He prefers books with magic in them. A decent selection can be found here: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/reviews/age/10/age/11/age/12/age/13/category/book/topic/magic-and-fantasy-21623?sort=field_stars_rating&order=desc Science fiction is also okay, but not too scary (no alien invasions). Recent books he enjoyed include: Prydain series, Narnia (reread), Otto of the Silver Hand, The Apothecary by Maile Meloy, Bridge to Terebithia, The House with the Clock in Its Walls. He's read Hobbit, LOTR is too old for him. He's read Golden Compass series, first Wizard of Earthsea book (but not the others, yet). He loved the Hitchhiker's Guide, doesn't have the others yet. From that Common Sense list, he's also read Down the Mysterly River. Don't get Catherynne M. Valente.
Don't get this!
See above. Don't get anything either sexy or very scary; he's not yet interested in the former and he's too anxious to enjoy the latter.
timspalding's Secret Santa is gortavoher. Help gortavoher pick the right book.
WeeTurtle: I haven't read all of them myself, but what about the Redwall books by Brian Jaques? Or Something by Roald Dalh? Another option might be Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Jones. (Tue, 11 Dec 2018 00:30:55 -0500)
