Book tastes

Real life has been way too real of late, so I need some lovely distracting things with happy endings. Think light and fluffy - chick lit, travel books or memoirs, inspiring and uplifting. I like Santa Montefiore (have read almost all of her stuff), foodie books, Morgan Llywelyn (again have read just about all of it), Donna Leon, and Janet Evanovich. France, Ireland, Italy, in fact, Europe in general would be good locales for the stories or tropical islands (think Margaritaville) would be good, too.

Don't get this!

While I want inspiring and uplifting, please no religious books. No horror, goth, apocalyptic, scary, or creepy and anything where children or small animals are harmed/killed is just right out.

Comments/suggestions

Daniel.Estes: My wife would recommend the Crazy Rich Asians series. I haven't read it myself. She says it fun and smart. (Tue, 20 Nov 2018 15:28:55 -0500)

holly_golightly: I can't see your library, but I recently read The Vacationers by Emma Straub which I think fits what you're looking for nicely (set on the island of Mallorca!) (Tue, 20 Nov 2018 18:09:33 -0500)

jamieschecter: Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart is a fun read. It's a fictional retelling of the first female sheriff in the U.S.A. and has a great focus on sister relationsihps. (Fri, 30 Nov 2018 23:53:14 -0500)

calm: Notes and ideas. Any help will be appreciated as I don't really read "light and fluffy". So far I'm thinking of Extra Virgin: Amongst the Olive Groves of Liguria by Annie Hawes (978-0140294231) $17.29 (Italy, Memoir, food);

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George (978-0553418798) $11.78 (fiction, France);

The Tour by Jean Grainger (978-1482385632) $15.99 (fiction, Ireland) (Sat, 01 Dec 2018 10:55:51 -0500)

calm: More thoughts, trying to get closer to $50 still looking for a suitable book just under £7 if I go with the following

Extra Virgin: A Young Woman Discovers the Italian Riviera, Where Every Month Is Enchanted Annie Hawes (978-0060958114) £14.99

The Tour by Jean Grainger (978-1482385632) $15.99

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion 978-1476729091 $12.25 (Mon, 03 Dec 2018 06:40:42 -0500)

calm: I hope you enjoy the books and have a great SantaThing. (Mon, 03 Dec 2018 09:35:34 -0500)

lorannen: Done. (Wed, 12 Dec 2018 17:35:06 -0500)
