Secret Santa

genesisdiem's Secret Santa is ablachly. Help ablachly pick the right book.

princefan: Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston by Valerie Boyd (non-fiction book about an interesting woman) (Mon, 19 Nov 2018 19:32:13 -0500)

holly_golightly: Diving Belles by Lucy Wood is a folklore-based short story collection which I think you would enjoy. (Tue, 20 Nov 2018 18:11:46 -0500)

nancyjune: Marie: A True Story by Peter Maas, Personal History by Katharine Graham, A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother by Jenny Scott. All about interesting women. (Fri, 23 Nov 2018 02:17:11 -0500)

thornton37814: She might enjoy some of the Miss Zukas cozy mysteries featuring a librarian by Jo Dereske. The first is Miss Zukas and the Library Murders, and it appears to be available for Kindle. (Tue, 27 Nov 2018 18:49:34 -0500)

cbl_tn: She might enjoy one of Laura Childs's cozy mysteries. Death by Darjeeling is the first in her Tea Shop Mysteries set in Charleston, and Keepsake Crimes is the first in her Scrapbooking Mysteries set in pre-Katrina New Orleans. Elizabeth J. Duncan's Penny Brannigan mysteries set in Wales might suit her, too. The first book is The Cold Light of Mourning. (Tue, 04 Dec 2018 20:26:16 -0500)

FReads: She might like "The Dream Daughter" which is a bit mystery/time travel/strong female lead by Diane Chamberlain. (Wed, 05 Dec 2018 22:52:12 -0500)

wisemetis: Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart - historical fiction based on the real life story of the first woman deputy sheriff in the US. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 00:43:21 -0500)

SouthernKiwi: For books on interesting woman I'd recommend The Radium Girls by Kate Moore or Wedlock: How Georgian Britain's Worst Husband Met his Match by Wendy Moore (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 03:54:43 -0500)

ablachly: The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone is definitely a book about an interesting woman. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 13:43:51 -0500)

EllsieFind: The Humane Gardener by Nancy Lawson was my very favorite book of 2017. So beautiful. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 13:48:48 -0500)

libraryperilous: Code Girls

What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia would edge into politics, but Genesis might want to check it out on her own. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 14:04:08 -0500)

Capybara_99: "The Library Book" by Susan Orlean - check it out. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 14:53:17 -0500)

Capybara_99: "The Library Book" by Susan Orlean - check it out. (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 14:56:54 -0500)

ablachly: Okay! I took a few suggestions from here (including my own from this morning), and added in a non-fiction title about some amazing female pilots (Fly Girls) and a mystery series I just started reading myself, the Josephine Tey mysteries by Nicola Upson (first book is An Expert in Murder). Happy holidays! (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 15:28:24 -0500)

ablachly: Another suggestion, though I'm out of buying space: Circe by Madeline Miller. More mythology than folklore, but still qualifies under interesting women! (Thu, 06 Dec 2018 15:36:23 -0500)

lorannen: Prices shifted around a bit, so I added Santa's alternate pick Circe (B074M5TLLJ).

Done. (Tue, 18 Dec 2018 18:09:07 -0500)
