Book tastes

I would very much like to receive one of your favourite books, preferably one from an author I don't know yet. I mostly read adult higher fantasy and thriller, but am always open for new topics and genres yet unexplored.

Don't get this!

horror (that would have me shivering and sleepless)

Other notes

For ideas you can also have a look at my library which is always up to date.

Secret Santa

Dariah's Secret Santa is tbum. Help tbum pick the right book.

KareenaS._: I would suggest a Spanish language Bible or the Divergent Series. :) (Sat, 17 Nov 2018 09:23:10 -0500)

LauraBrook: The start to a fantasy/supernatural series I really enjoyed is "Full Moon Rising" by Keri Arthur. (As a heads up, there are some explicit sexual things that happen.) For a magical realism author she may not have heard of, Sarah Addison Allen is good. "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher is the start to another series, this one is supernatural urban fantasy with humor. "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss has very high ratings (it's a fantasy novel, start to a series) and may not be known that well outside of the US/CA. I gifted it to my SantaThing person last year (she lives in England) and she hadn't heard of it previously but loved it. Same goes for "The Fifth Season" by N. K. Jemison. "The Lies of Locke Lamora" by Scott Lynch might be another good place to start. (Wed, 05 Dec 2018 23:48:05 -0500)

ChessFanatic: Since there is already a fantasy suggestion, I will put in suggestion for the thriller side of things. I do not see either of these authors in the author cloud:

James Rollins - First standalone book is Subterranean, first book of the Sigma Force series is Sandstorm.

Vince Flynn - First book he wrote was his lone standalone book, Term Limits, while the first of the Mitch Rapp series was Transfer of Power, though there may have been a prequel written since then.

Depends on the type of thriller they prefer. The first author is based off exploration and tied to historical facts while the latter author was a writer of political thrillers (he passed in 2013 at the age of 47 - Kyle Mills now writes in Vince's name - Similar to what they did with VC Andrews.) tbum: Dariah,

I hope you enjoy these books. Brad Meltzer is a favorite author of mine and I saw you had no books from him in your library list. I also want to thank KareenaS, LauraBrook and ChessFanatic for their help choosing other books to get as close as possible to your price ceiling. I tried to select a combination of genre's and languages for you!

Merry Christmas!

lorannen: Had to swap out the German edition of The Name of the Wind for the English, due to availability. Dariah, feel free to message (or email: loranne@librarything.com) me if that was the wrong call, and I'll see about getting you a replacement.

Done. (Sun, 16 Dec 2018 20:11:52 -0500)

Dariah: Tiffany / tbum,

thank you very much for your selection of books (also a big thanks to KareenaS._, LauraBrook and ChessFanatic for helping my Santee)!

During Christmas holidays I already read one of the books (The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer) and enjoyed it quite much and am looking forward to read the other two books.

@lorannen: The English edition is absolutely fine, thank you very much.

Merry Christmas everyone!
