In case you don't read the blog, here's notice that we started a Harry Potter Review Contest. As you'll see, it won't be a dog-eat-dog sort of thing. There are 50 winners, and we're rewarding people for voting for other reviews.

Aug 7, 2007, 10:29am Top

The five reviews with the most thumbs-ups will win the bigger prize.

The rest will be randomly picked from all members who both wrote a review and voted for others' reviews.

Just wondering about the end of the contest? 6 have tied for 2nd place with 19 thumbs up.

Aug 7, 2007, 1:45pm Top

Looks like that wasn't expected to happen. :)

Aug 7, 2007, 3:02pm Top

Ha! Hmm..

Aug 7, 2007, 3:11pm Top

To be honest, I didn't check the numbers last night. I was too busy. I'll try to get a count as of last night.

Aug 7, 2007, 3:16pm Top

The numbers haven't changed for the top ten since Sunday night or there abouts.

Aug 7, 2007, 3:22pm Top

So, what do we do? I think we disqualify all of them.

I need to get Abby to write the blog post. I want to pull out some choice bits, but I can't look at the page or I'll spoil something. I already know one plot detail from casual glancing.

Aug 7, 2007, 3:24pm Top

Readafew, have you been checking while anxiously awaiting offical results? ;) I still say yours is fantastic. Looks like we're both two of the six people who have nineteen thumbs-up. :)

Aug 7, 2007, 3:26pm Top

Oh, that's right, Tim! I hope it was only a minor plot detail. Where are you in the series?

Aug 7, 2007, 3:26pm Top

Tim I would have thought that you'd get it on CD and listen while you work...

So, what do we do? I think we disqualify all of them.
So are you going to give LadyN $250 for Amazon? 8)

Aug 7, 2007, 3:28pm Top

Hehe! I'm so happy for her! I wonder if she even knows yet...I think she's working.

Aug 7, 2007, 3:38pm Top

Kerian > I have periodically checked to see who where in the top 5. I made a bet with myself that it would take 20 thumbs to be in the top 5 at the end but things died down a lot this last week end, I check thursday and sunday and there was very little change at all, and since sunday the top ten haven't moved.

Thanks again for the support for my review. I thought yours was very heartfelt. Whatever Tim decides congratulations on tying for 2nd place!

Aug 7, 2007, 3:41pm Top

The same to you, readafew! :)

Aug 7, 2007, 3:46pm Top

I'm so proud to know you all....*sob*

LadyN rocks the house!

Aug 7, 2007, 3:50pm Top

#14 LG:
Why don't you ask her to mention you in her acceptance speech? ;)

Aug 7, 2007, 3:54pm Top

#15 That's her lookout, Kerian. I just hope she remembers us "little people" here on HE, her friends from the beginning....

Aug 7, 2007, 4:06pm Top

#16 Me, too. :)

Aug 8, 2007, 6:06am Top

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!! You guys make me giggle!

Am I able even to have a prize if I'm in the UK? Anyway, if I do win then of course you'll all get a mention, and they'll be a party for all. Ooh, will there be a live red carpet broadcast on E! ? And what about coverage of the main ceremony? And what shall we wear? I think the pressure is all too much... ;-)

Aug 10, 2007, 9:09pm Top

#18 can I have your autograph *blinks large star filled eyes* i should probably go and read the reviews but I know everyone did a splendid job at it so you're all winners in my book 8)

Edited: Aug 10, 2007, 9:24pm Top

Hi, MEM! We've missed you! :)

I wonder how long till there's a new blog on this contest?

Aug 10, 2007, 9:47pm Top

I've been wondering that 2 but I'm guessing Abby will get it out early next week. It was a little over a week to put up the Potter book pile winners, so we'll see.

Aug 10, 2007, 10:41pm Top

Hello I've missed you guys too

Aug 10, 2007, 11:21pm Top

#22 MEM:
The LibraryThing blog. There's a link at the top of the screen and to the right just below the words 'Catalog your books online.' :)

Aug 10, 2007, 11:23pm Top

ah i see it. what do ppl blog about on LT?

Aug 10, 2007, 11:29pm Top

#24 MEM:
Only Tim, Abby, and a few select others can post the blog notes. Lately, it's mostly about Dutch stuff, but they post about contests, new features on LT, and lots of other things there, too. You're actually able to make comments on the blog posts if you want. :)

Aug 10, 2007, 11:32pm Top

Aug 11, 2007, 1:27am Top

LOL. Guess a few of us need lives, huh? ;) Oh, well. I have tags to organize. :)

Aug 15, 2007, 3:23pm Top

I wonder if they've forgotten...

Aug 16, 2007, 1:48am Top

Me, too. I'm still feeling half-crazy with want of results.

Aug 16, 2007, 5:00pm Top

Glad I'm not the only one going nuts about this. Actually Tim and Abby should just let me judge it for no other reason than the fact that I'm super cool. *said with copious amounts of sarcastic bluffing* ;) It could go something like this:

*straightens evening gown, takes the stage, checks the mike*

*tap tap tap* Is this thing on?
*scrrreeeech of microphone feedback*

Ahem. Thank you all for coming to the bored-at-work Hogwarts Express gala! Tonight we will be revealing the imaginary winner of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Review Contest! Before we announce the winners - a word from our sponsors!

*cut to commercial for Weasly's Wizard Wheezes*

*cut back to me still trying to get the sound system working right and eventually reverting to wizardly applifying my own voice*

Yes that's right, Weasly's Wizard Wheezes for all your practical joking needs! And now the moment we've all been waiting for....

The unofficial imaginary winner of the Harry Potter Review Contest is...

*more drumroll....*

*And the crowd goes wild!*

*holds up hand to silence deafening applause*

Also winners are the supremely awesome xicanti, Kerian, readafew and littlegeek....

*more thunderous applause*

...for the sole reason that I liked their reviews the best! They'll all be awarded with amazon gift cards (as that's really the only award that we're all dying to know about, but I manage to randomly score myself a free CueCat)!

Aug 16, 2007, 7:04pm Top

I didn't do a review, but I want to win something!!

Aug 16, 2007, 8:11pm Top

lol all right Joan Rivers (or are you Melissa?), at least you're not making fun of our outfits yet!

Hey can I get a prize too? Just because?

Aug 16, 2007, 10:49pm Top

*Interrupted from authorities offstage, accepts new envelope from someone important*

Ladies and gentlemen, I've just been informed that we have some new awards to announce. I'd like to present the Trophy For Least Pronounceable Screen Name to the supremely awesome gpwts!

*loud cheering and confetti throwing*

*Pauses to wipe confetti out of eyes and mouth*

Our next award is a prize for Extreme Excellence in Wizard Challenge DingDingDing-ing goes to our very own suge!

*more enthusiastic revelry*

Your imaqinary prize can be your choice of ...well anything you can imagine! Congrats to all!!

(And there's no way I'm either of the Rivers ladies... *ehhhhgghhh* shudders just to think of the thought....)

Aug 16, 2007, 11:07pm Top

Thank you. I liked your review, too. :)

Really, though, maybe they did forget. :(

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 1:06am Top

Hi Kerian!
You're back! It took you long enough. Where were you? People were wondering.

Aug 17, 2007, 1:25am Top

Hi, Chelsea!
My kid sister was using the comptuer to load music on her ipod. Also, my cousin came over. He's paid to do work around the house like in the yards 'cause apparently, girls are wimpy (I dare anyone to agree, and I'll call suge on you), but instead, he uses my computer for hours on end while still being paid. Grrr. I'm so happy I don't have a brother!

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 1:34am Top

Oh, that sucks. Unluckily I have a brother. He is always on the computer. Luckily we have 6 computers. Of course two are my dads but still. We missed you K. Did you read the We All Go Stumble Through the Door?

Aug 17, 2007, 1:37am Top

*Gasps* :O Six computers?? My goodness, that's crazy! :) Yep, read it and posted twice. I was so upset to miss all of that! Again, blast the sister and cousin. Tomorrow, I'm so going to hog the computer! :)

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 1:48am Top

My dad's a computer geek. He's worked with computers since they were invented. :) He is a web designer right now. edited: at UCR.

Aug 17, 2007, 1:45am Top

Wow. Everyone tells me they used to take up entire rooms. :)

Aug 17, 2007, 2:00am Top

Yikes! It seems they haven't forgetten. No results yet, but the blog has been updated.

Aug 17, 2007, 10:07am Top

Hey guys - thanks for my prize! ( Hey- that rhymed!) I think we're all winners, so I can feel a party coming on. Woohoo!!!!!!

Aug 17, 2007, 10:07am Top

I'm loving your awards ceremony, elbakerone!

There's a mention of the contest in the blog today, so hopefully the results will be out soon! I'm on tenterhooks here, waiting to know how things will play out.

Aug 17, 2007, 10:22am Top

*Aside to all her adoring fans: "Hey, if the LT staff can party it up while waiting to announce the contest winners so can we!!"*

*Passes out pizza, soda, harder drinks for those old enough, and those cute little appetizers that posh parties always seem to have.... or "starters" if you're in Britain where we probably should be since this is imaginary and we're honoring HP. Plus I love British slang!! ...Back on stage!*

Okay friends, some new developments here. We accidentally had some tarnish one of the last trophies I handed out. I accidentally announced it as "Least Pronounceable Screen Name" when in fact the true inscription on the trophy reads: "Best Mental Image Ever Evoked by a Screen Name That's an Abbreviation For Something Really Funny" (You can see how with I could confuse the two....right?). Anyways it's for gpwts or as I now like to imagine: Green Pickle Wearing Tap Shoes!!

*Passes off recently polished nice shiny trophy*

(...staay tuned there's more to come...)

Aug 17, 2007, 10:56am Top

*Takes a sip of Chardonnay...passes the glass to suge and reaches for the Pinot Noir instead.*

Hope everyone's enjoying the starters!

La proximo medalla es por ReinaAlyss.... Oh wait you already got that one. Our next award is for our dear Cue! I present to you The Future Female Quantum Physicist Award! In order to accept it you must solemnly swear that you are up to no.... wait that's not right.... You must solemnly swear that when you are a million times smarter than any human has a right to be, that you'll mention Library Thing's Hogwarts Express in your Noble Prize acceptance speech and that you won't come back here and confuse us with whacked out notions of particle theories and cats that are both alive and dead depending on whether or not you're watching them. (1)

*Takes a deep breath during the applause break and another sip of wine*

And I have another award here to be awarded to the best HE member ever to share their name with a daughter of a former US president....The Official Not A School or Soccer Award for Best Flying Like Tinkerbell (assuming she'll fly to the stage to accept it) goes to ChelseaBottomley!

(1) I can't believe I'm footnoting my message (call me Bartimaeus?) but just so y'all don't think I'm too psycho, Cue mentioned winning an award for fluency in Spanish and since I also "hablo Espanol" I thought I'd make I joke on that and since she says in her profile that she likes quantum physics the whole alive or dead cat is a play off of Shroedinger's cat which you don't need to know unless you're a big physics nerd (which I am also).

Aug 17, 2007, 11:05am Top

Hehehe... I thank you all, my dear Hogwarts Express, for the very longly named award!! I dont know aout the smartest person in the world, but I am definitly getting there!! :P I liked trees. lol!! I wont confuse you, I was going to talk about the tree on my profile, but oh well!!

WOOT!! Everyone is winning!! congradulations everyone!!

Aug 17, 2007, 11:34am Top

Well I just realized that I said you're going to be winning a "Noble Prize" (instead of a Nobel) so maybe you don't have to be the smartest person in the world for that...maybe just being noble is enough. ;)

Aug 17, 2007, 11:49am Top

*Chelsea flies up on stage*

I would like to thank everyone here at Hogwarts Express. All my friends and family who have helped me grow throughout the years. And Tim for creating LT, elbakerone for giving me this award, and whoever invented ice cream! Thank you all so much!

Congratulations Cue!

*carries The Official Not A School Or Soccer Award For Best Flying Like Tinkerbell off stage (while flying of course)*

Aug 17, 2007, 11:59am Top

ooooh wine! just what I need! thanks, elba!

*surreptitiously dumps coffee and pours wine into cup*

*whistles innocently*

Aug 17, 2007, 12:21pm Top

*genteel applause*

I'd take a glass of something, but I'm at work. (Can you drink virtual wine on the job? Best not find out the hard way.)

Aug 17, 2007, 12:27pm Top

oh go *hic* on foggi *hic* no harm in a glass or *hic* two.... *hic*

Aug 17, 2007, 12:33pm Top

I think if attending virtual award ceremonies is okay virtual drinking should be alright too. ;)

(and y'all can call me "el"...and I'll stop calling y'all "y'all")

Ooh!! I also have another award here...

The Precious Profile Puppy Pic Prize goes to foggidawn! Just don't try saying that 10 times fast....

*plenty of genteel applause as FD takes the stage*

Edited: Aug 22, 2007, 9:00pm Top

El, I think YOU deserve an award!

*massive drum roll, provided by the house band*

For Excellence in Award Presentation, General Creativity, and Footnotes, (with a special, additional mini-trophy for referring to Bartimaeus1), we have.... elbakerone!

*thunderous applause*

You have won a very nifty trophy, a year's supply of virtual wine, and a plate of virtual cookies!

1 I just read, (and loved), the books last week. :)

Aug 17, 2007, 12:53pm Top

considering what happened to suge on the other thread, you might want to watch out for those cookies. . .

Aug 17, 2007, 12:57pm Top

dont want to end up like this:

Aug 17, 2007, 12:59pm Top

Awwww... thanks xicanti!! I actually already awarded myself a cue cat...hee hee But the trophy is much cooler!

As long as it's not a portkey..... And FD's right about those cookies....

Hopefully the wine is safe... what's this on the label? "For H. Slughorn, Happy Christmas"...where exactly did you get this from???

Aug 17, 2007, 1:01pm Top

Anyone check out the 'HP links' thread? You should! Tim wants to know if anyone has link suggestions for JKR's LT page, such as Wikipedia.

Btw, *coughhidethedrinkscough* someone's going to be visiting this thread.

Aug 17, 2007, 1:01pm Top

Oh, no! Don't drink it, elbakerone! :)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:14pm Top

*hurriedly hides all drinks under the stage and takes the microphone again*

Umm... it's my pleasure to announce that like K, I've seen the HP links thread and we have officially garnered the attention of the supremely awesome Tim and Abby.

(aside) Yes that was a shameless attempt at kissing up to them

Might I also point out that Tim's reason for not reading this thread is because "people are discussing the merits of the reviews there."

*pause to compose myself after bout of extreme laughter*

Uhh... yeah "discussing the merits of the reviews"... haven't done that since post 32.... yeah.... awkward....

(aside) Where did that portkey trophy go.....

Aug 17, 2007, 1:18pm Top

We've obviously been mistaken for a serious group of Harry Potter fans. . .

Aug 17, 2007, 1:20pm Top

Hehe. I almost told him about the award ceremony. :)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:21pm Top

LOL. Yeah, we sure talk enough...Maybe they don't actually read the threads and see what goofs we are. ;)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:22pm Top

If that's the case, I think this thread has just blown our cover!

Aug 17, 2007, 1:26pm Top

I'd say so! *tries not to laugh*

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 1:28pm Top

*pulls a straight face* Composure, everyone!

As serious Harry Potter fans, I think we should discuss the matter of ... *looks at foggidawn for help*

Aug 17, 2007, 1:28pm Top

Hmmm... more starry eyed dreaming....

...Maybe it'll be like in junior high when we got grades for effort and a lack of thumbs-upping will be compensated by our creative group spirit and enthusiasm for the books!

...."Random winners" could be replaced with "those psycho Hogx folks who came up with awards for each other!

...And maybe this thread will get a mention in the announcing of the *real* contest winners and other Librarythingers will come join our fun and we'll finally beat out The Green Dragon for most posts in the past 48 hours!!! *(insert evil laughter) bwahahahaahahaaaaaa*

............(sheepishly)Or at least we'll make Abby laugh?

Aug 17, 2007, 1:29pm Top

So, ahem. . . the merits of the reviews. . .

I found the reviews quite. . . meritorious. Except, of course, for those that weren't.

(Thought I'd try to up the tone of the thread a bit. How'm I doing?)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:30pm Top

Hehe, psycho.

Let's hope she laughs, huh? :)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:32pm Top

*Says with a dry voice*

Personally, I found the merits of the reviews rather, um, mertitorious myself. Yes, in fact, they were simply splendid.

Good, FD, very good!

Aug 17, 2007, 1:42pm Top

*hee hee hee*

But on a serious side (I'll wait for the shock to subside for those that just found out I have one)...

On the serious side, what is a review?

*adopts best philosopher face and strokes chin thoughtfully*

Is it not the ability to inform others about a book and to critique it while engaging others into intellectual thought about said book and thus enriching the experience of all readers, and by that very definition have we not all been constantly reviewing Harry Potter with our devotion to pursuing the dialog and debate about the meritioriousness of Deathly Hallows and all the novels in the series throughout all of our whimsical discussion within the realms of Hogwarts Express and in doing so haven't we all qualified ourselves as the true winners of the so-called Review Contest?

(And that right there, my friends, is how I passed Philosophy 101)

Aug 17, 2007, 1:49pm Top

I didn't actually read the reviews but I bet they were really good. And meritorious. I agree with elbakerone. Yep. Right...

I have to go eat suge's cake.

Aug 17, 2007, 1:57pm Top

Why yes indeed, the true outcome of the Harry Potter review contest should be simply that, for where else but in the Hogwarts Express group are people nearly as knowledgable about the books that are Harry Potter, other than of course J.K. Rowling herself, and perhaps those devoted fans that created the likes of her many fan web sites, but aside from that, since they simply have not entered in the contest known as the Harry Potter review contest on LibraryThing, I think devoted fans really know what they're talking about, however many dings, pixie dust, school bells, and the like they may have been awarded in the Wizard Challenges I - X.

Aug 17, 2007, 2:09pm Top

*whispers* Has our seriousness killed the thread?

Aug 17, 2007, 2:17pm Top

I think everyone ran away in terror. Either that, or, like me, they actually had to go do some work!

Aug 17, 2007, 2:19pm Top

Hehe. Let's hope it was work, huh? :)

Aug 17, 2007, 2:32pm Top

Everyone's taking time out to ponder our wondrous revelations. In fact I'll be gone for a while now too.... My brain needs a break from all that philosophizing.

Catch y'all later and if anyone else didn't yet get an award from me, let me know!

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 2:41pm Top

Bye, elbakerone! :)

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 3:18pm Top

I lied. You can't really get rid of me not that anyone would want to *said with my trademark copious amount of sarcastic bluffing*.

But yeah I was just thinking how funny it is that we more than tripled the posts on this thread in the last 24 hrs. I bet that's why Tim's worried. ;) He probably thinks we're all mad at him because the results haven't been revealed. To reassure him that we're not angry let's all join in a song:

(to the tune of Weasly is Our King)
Tim can give us anything
He invented Library Thing
That's why the H.E. group will sing
Tim is our King!

*Oh shoot, it's Abby we're supposed to be kissing up to! Hmm....what rhymes with "queen".....*

(edited to remove the curse of the italicized text - sorry, K)

Edited: Aug 17, 2007, 3:08pm Top

Hehe. I'll bet that made attention paid to results not having been reached yet! :)

*hums to the tune of Weasley is our King*

Anyone have a rhyming dictionary? That's something I've been meaning to get for years. :( Maybe there's one online!

Edited: Um, elbakerone, we're stuck in italics. ;) I think it's from your post. #100.

Aug 17, 2007, 3:30pm Top

So I checked out the rhyme zone....
microwave diathermy machine????

Uhhh... I'll leave that song in your hands K. ;)

Aug 17, 2007, 3:31pm Top

Check your profile, I wrote one but wanted a second opionion. :)

Aug 17, 2007, 3:40pm Top

I disappeared because of work, but mostly I I screamed when I thought of yesterday's fiasco.... I so thought that Tim was going to swoop down on us and bring da pain! lol

Aug 17, 2007, 3:42pm Top

Fiasco? Yesterday?

*extremely innocent look on face*

Aug 17, 2007, 3:44pm Top

Fiasco? Do you mean the lovely reception for the HP review contest we've had here? ;) Hehe, can you imagine if they asked us for parental permission? LOL.

Aug 17, 2007, 3:44pm Top

Love it, K!

*clearing throat and warming up*

Ahem. Mi mi mimi mi.... Okay everyone sing with me Kerian's new song:

*blows on a pitch pipe*

#128 - Well, I don't know about the real awards anymore. Last time I looked yours was higher up than it is now but that was the whole point of my awards. :)

My criteria was that it had to be reviewers who had more votes than me, wrote fun reviews, and actually post on HE occasionally. So at my fantasy gala - You win!!

Aug 17, 2007, 4:57pm Top

Thanks. Read some of my other reviews and you'll see why I think that one is lame. I usually pick those nits instead of giving them short mention. But Harry got me all emo.

I have a severe allergic reaction to The Emperor's New Groove -- it came out when I was in college, and this guy I liked and his girlfriend (I liked him before he acquired the GF, long story) went to see it, and for the duration of their (blessedly brief) relationship, they quoted it incessantly, to one another and anyone else who would listen. I still shudder to think of it. Ah, the unendurable cuteness!!!

Hi, MEM! :)

Edited: Aug 21, 2007, 3:49pm Top

Kerian > I think they're hoping WE'LL forget about it.

As far as I know there is no judging, the top 5 thumbs (tho 6 tied for 2nd place) were to get a gift certificate for their online book seller of choice, and 50 random reviewers (who also thumbed up at least one other review) were to get a free membership and a cuecat scanner.

Maybe there's a problem with the international tax thing with 'prizes' awarded?

Aug 21, 2007, 4:11pm Top

#159 ...they're hoping WE'LL forget about it...
*uncontrollable laughter* Riiiiiiight..... it's just going to slip our minds.....

At this point I think the whole waiting thing is funnier (and more fun) than actually having winners to congratulate. I bet they never imagined it would be such a popular contest and such a close race. There is the whole issue of the 2nd place tie waiting to be resolved. Not to mention that the votes have changed since the official end of the contest. And the fact that there are 50 random winners is sort of the point of this thread of insanity. I've been (jokingly!) hoping that we can have some influence on the "random" part. ;)

#158 - EEK! I'm running out of time. I might have to take dibs on Thursday as well.... (but since that's my second pick I'll only get 50 gallons of ice cream if I win.)

Aug 21, 2007, 6:41pm Top

#159 readafew:
Huh? What are you talking about? ;)
Puh-shaw. (No idea how to spell that. :) As if we'll forget.

*Hoping for lurkers*
Tim, Abby, please?????? Results? :)

#160 elbakerone:
*Reads post 160, then #152*
Um, so if it's Thursday you get five times the amount of ice cream promised since it's your second pick? ;) Hehe, that's a pretty good deal! :)

Oh my goodness, what if they don't like theirs songs that we made?

Edited: Aug 22, 2007, 2:22am Top

Or what if they think we haven't sung the songs enough?

*to the tune of Weasly is Our King*

Tim can give us anything
He invented Library Thing
That's why the H.E. group will sing
Tim is our King!

Abby can fix any screen,
Librarian of LT she has been,
That's why our group won't go green,
Abby is our Queen!

Well, Monday bets have been officially off for a while. I'll still go with Wednesday, though now I'm thinking next week or the week after. You know, to be truthful, I almost feel as though it'll be dropped altogether. I think readafew's right. :(

Aug 22, 2007, 9:50am Top

Well, in the blog post that referenced it, they mentioned a few different things: a new hire, two new features, and the contest. So far, it seems like they've been posting about these things in the order they listed them. If they keep on in the same vein, there should be one more new feature announcement, then the contest results. (Hopefully!)

Aug 22, 2007, 10:28am Top

#161 - yeah that was supposed to be a 5. It's been a long week and I seem to have lost great deals of brain function that include my ability to tpye.

...And maybe I'll just stick with my original Tuesday guess and make it NEXT Tuesday.

*sings along*
Tim can give us anything

Aug 22, 2007, 4:28pm Top

LOL! Uhhh.... well... we can only discuss the meritoriousness of reviews for so long. As with every thread we eventually crumble down into our baser instincts which include outright silliness and borderline insanity. And nothing to be sorry for Tim, we've quite enjoyed the wait! :)

As for the "about to post it" does this mean Kerian's going to win with her prediction of Wed or Thurs?? Wow K! You're good with predictions! Trelawney taught you well!!

If anyone wonders why we've stopped Twittering, it's because we're basically Twittering each other on the wiki now. We keep track of what we do in short phrases. Now that we've grown so large, I asked people to do it. Except for Altay, who's got a Bartleby the Scrivener thing going on—and he works across the table from me—we all do.

So, for example, mine today says:

*Worked on Facebook cover-adding feature
*Spam-account deletion
*Moving people to Casey
*Ordering Chris around
*New search on touchstones, /title
*Blogged Weinberger podcast

We don't make it public because they sometimes include secret projects ("TagMirror"?) or uncomfortable tidbits ("Russian hit man for NearSky"). We also use it to assign things to our or to eachother's "plate" (stuff that needs to be done). Abby's got her tomorrow racked up:

*Plate: HP review post

I think the next item casts some doubt on her bandwidth to blog it, though:

*Plate: interview people (11am, 1pm, 4pm)

We'll see...

Aug 23, 2007, 3:29pm Top

hmmm, it appears that they used the flag on my post to drop me down out of the winning set for the reviews, even though the contest said nothing about flags...

Aug 23, 2007, 3:39pm Top

Congratulations to LadyN and all of the other winners! And to el, who guessed that Thursday would be the day! ;-) But I personally think that our own "award ceremony" on this thread was much more entertaining!

Aug 23, 2007, 3:52pm Top

Super Congrats to LadyN, Kerian, xicanti... (and the other winners that probably aren't reading this.)

readafew - that is so bogus! I can't believe they didn't count yours!!! Unfair, unfair, unfair, unfair...and did I mention unfair???

*Presents Giant Trophy and Gold Medal to readafew - you'll always be a winner here... oh wait, that sounds entirely too sappy... I meant to say Congratulations and We're all proud of you... now lets go gripe about it on the LT blog....*

And of course I missed out on the random winners pile too. I'm still bitter about being passed over in the Early Reviewers and seeing as how I never win at Bingo I'm starting to think that I'm just one of those people with sheer bad luck.

Aug 23, 2007, 4:42pm Top

My fault! fixing it now. I'm so sorry readafew. You're definitely a winner...

Exact words:
HAHAHA! Have fun getting this baby open!

Naw, not cruel. I wondered if I deserved it for all the books I send with the packaging covered in (a much thinner layer of) tape. I'm so going to be more cautious with tape now! :)

Aug 27, 2007, 2:08pm Top

why? Its how you pack! And you don't use too much tape! dont change the way you pack because of me! I'm just one of those crazy people, you know I was just joking! I thought it would be a riot... hahahahahahaha

Hmm. I don't really know. Did I preserve her shield spell in tape? ;)

Aug 27, 2007, 2:40pm Top

(SIDE NOTE: I just have to mention that this totally reminds me of a game we play at my church with the students I mentor - With teams of 5-6 students, you have one kid - the smallest - stand on a chair against the wall and the rest have the job of duct-taping the one to the wall. They only get two minutes to tape and then you take the chair away and let gravity do it's work. The last kid to fall off the wall's team wins. ...And typing it out I guess it sounds kind of mean and cruel but they're only about a foot off the ground so no one gets hurt and the kids really do love doing it.)

Aug 27, 2007, 4:33pm Top

geez maybe I should reconsider this church thing. Look at what I'm missing! :)

Aug 27, 2007, 4:41pm Top

Heh heh... yeah we're not what most people think of when they hear church. We've also been known to have group ice cream sundaes served out of foil lined gutters. (You know, the gutters used on houses to catch rainwater from the roofs? We pick up a bunch of them from the hardware store and then line them up on long tables, everyone gathers around and gets a couple scoops in a section of gutter in front of them and then in the middle of the table are all the toppings - chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, nuts, cherries, etc.) It's really fun and good for getting normally shy near-mute junior high kids to open up and talk to each other. It's a great idea for birthday parties too if anyone has kids!

Aug 27, 2007, 5:28pm Top

Gpwts, gpwts. It's harmless tape. :)

Accio tape!
*retrieves tape taken away by gpwts*

Aug 27, 2007, 5:32pm Top

not harmless when in your hands! or suge's for that matter

Aug 27, 2007, 5:34pm Top

Hey, el!
*slyly (or perhaps not so slyly) passes elbakerone a roll of packaging tape*

Aug 27, 2007, 5:44pm Top

*runs in with a box of tape rolls*

All right, here we go! Tape all around!

*evil chuckle*

Aug 27, 2007, 5:50pm Top

Awesome, foggi!

Aug 27, 2007, 6:33pm Top

*points wand at self and mutters indistinctly before turning into a bird and flying off*

See ya suckers

Aug 27, 2007, 7:05pm Top

There she goes, spoiling all our fun. Oh, well. . . tape will keep, and she has to come back some time.

Did any of you know she was an Animagus?

Aug 27, 2007, 7:14pm Top

not animagus, I just transfigured myself, I learned how too after suge turned me into a turtle that one time

Aug 27, 2007, 7:21pm Top

There's obviously a subtle difference here that I'm not getting, but oh, well!

Aug 27, 2007, 8:19pm Top

You know el on one level it sounds like fun, but I'm a TOTAL germ phobe, you just don't know! I have to mentally prepare myself each day to take the train with hordes of unwashed bodies (gag). And the thought of sharing a dish or gutter, in this case would leave me in a catatonic state, I'm sure. Sounds fun tho, if you don't have mental issues like I do!

Aug 27, 2007, 9:56pm Top

suge you are a bundle of issues

Aug 27, 2007, 10:33pm Top

Oh please! take the subway and see if you don't dry heave the whole ride!

Aug 27, 2007, 10:55pm Top

I used to take the subway once a month at the least when I went into the city...somehow I made it okay

Aug 28, 2007, 8:37am Top

yeah except for the hepatitis, that is.

Aug 28, 2007, 12:08pm Top

Hehe. I hate public transportation! I just got out of having to take it to my campus this morning, and I am ever happy about it. (Someone'd driving me, of course, I'm not skipping. :) For me, the bigger issue is if someone's wearing too much perfume - I almost jumped off a bus at the wrong stop a few times in the past 'cause I couldn't breathe. It wasn't until then that I had an idea of how bad it is for people I know with severe asthma.

Aug 28, 2007, 7:13pm Top

I don't have hepatitis, but do you think my mass psychosis may be related to public transport.

Aug 28, 2007, 7:18pm Top

dito here!

btw how many convos do you think we can keep going at once???

Aug 28, 2007, 9:05pm Top

As many as I can count using one hand! You know I know sign language! :)

Aug 28, 2007, 10:36pm Top

wow so you're typing and signing! Good deal!

Aug 29, 2007, 1:01am Top

Hehe. I'm certainly not signing to anyone, just saying I can. OMG, when I took those classes, I used sign language in my sleep! Freaky, huh? That's the closest I've ever been to talking in my sleep. ;)

Aug 29, 2007, 3:32am Top

Aug 29, 2007, 8:59pm Top

What ever could you mean foggi?!

Aug 29, 2007, 9:04pm Top

*in a very prim voice*

Mummy always told me that a lady does not discuss religion or politics in polite company.

(Of course, whether 'Mummy' would consider any of us 'ladies' or 'polite company' after the way we carry on around here is doubtful in the extreme!)

Aug 29, 2007, 9:07pm Top

*looks around* who was talking about religion and politics?

Aug 29, 2007, 9:08pm Top

Well, religion hadn't come into it yet, I'll grant! ;-)

Aug 29, 2007, 11:12pm Top

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Don't talk about religion. I do not want to get in an argument.

Aug 29, 2007, 11:16pm Top
