We've added Google Book Search integration. It's actually been live for two days now, unofficially.

Here's the blog post: http://www.librarything.com/blog/2008/03...

I'm interested to see what sort of experiences members have. I think it will vary a lot depending on what sort of books you have.

I never removed the Google Book Search column from my styles after our first *cough* try at Google integration, so having it now show on work pages is a nice added bonus. Thanks!

Thanks Tim, it's cool. I find it is particularly useful for me. My library contains a number of scholarly works, and Google Book Search seems to have "partial view" for more of those types of works than some others. Even if I can't see the whole book, it is very, very useful to see the ToC and use the search feature to find every instance of a word or phrase.

Does the old GBS things still work? I'm surprised.

There is a problem with linking to Google Book Search using the LCCN. My library includes They Came in Ships LCCN 2002006461, published in 2002. It has a link to a full view in Google Book Search. But the book which is linked to is A Book of Marionettes LCCN 20026461, published in 1920. Library of Congress changed the structure of the LCCN in January 2001. As most of the books in Google which have full text available are older imprints with the pre-2001 LCCN structure you can expect that a fair number of links to full text in Google from post 2000 imprints will be invalid.

More specifics re change in LCCN structure at http://www.loc.gov/marc/lccn_structure.h...

That's interesting. I'll forward that on to my Google contact. I'm glad to see problems that I didn't cause! :)

The links in catalog view? They never stopped working as far as I can tell.

Looking at the Theban Plays and Alice in Wonderland pages, in both cases the secondary window is centered on the upper left corner of the screen, not floating in the middle. There's nothing available for me to grab to bring it back, so I can only see one quarter of it.

Running Windows XP, IE version 6 at work. Will check at home to see if a different browser/OS combination is different.

Those links work for me with FF/XP and IE7/XP.

Heck. It works for me on IE6.

I'm having the same problem as staffordcastle in Message 9. Also on IE6/XP

This is my first look at the Google Books feature, and it does look great. But, the link from the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland work page includes only one full text document, and when I opened it, it has a title something like "The Canadian album : Encyclopedic Canada, or, The progress of a nation in religion, patriotism, business," and so on. I clicked on a couple others that WERE versions of Alice, and several covers were obviously Alice covers, but that one full text is just WRONG. So, Tim, might want to pass that on to your Google contact as well.

But, I'm excited to look further at this resource in the coming days. Good job!

Yeah, I saw that. I don't see among our screw-ups on the debris page, so I think it's a wrong OCLC or LCCN number.

Cross-posting from the beta group:

Small bug: if you have two (or more) exact duplicates in your catalog and they're displayed on the same page only the first displays the google link.

For example:
