Your anonymous smoocher was very determined as your Bookmooch link on your "also on" doesn't work!
(and you'd have TWO smooches if it did!)
:)
(oh, please, please, please don't be offended!)
I think you need to put in your user name, not your name and location.

I've been smooched. Thank you so much, whoever you are!

It's my lucky day. I've received another smooch. Thank you, it is greatly appreciated.
7englishrose60
Wow! Three in one day. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Yes, and it's another six months to Christmas.
10mint910
AH! I got one too! That's so sweet :) Thank you! I'll definitely be paying this forward someday!

Holy you know what! I just got another smooch! Thank you secret bookmoochers lurking around with your bags full of points!
This have been a great bookmooch week for me, two people requested books from me, i usually get a request once every month or so.
Yay bookmooch!

What a great place bookmooch is - I just got another smooch.
There are some wonderful people out there.

There's just something pretty cool about spreading book karma and goodwill. Don't you sleep easier knowing you've put a smile on someone's face somewhere in the world? There's an excellent Polish film, 'Edi', and I always remember the scene when one of the homeless men who came into some money bought an extra bottle of vodka and just left it on a railway bridge. When his friend asked him why, he said it was because he'd always wished he could find something like that. Smooches ... literary vodka bottles!

I received better than a smooch a few days ago. I had emailed back and forth about German language crime novels with another BookMoocher (they are available through BookMooch, but almost always cost 2 points) and she promptly mailed two to me. So I spent the past few days just ridiculously pleased with the world. Just that someone I've never met does something that thoughtful and kind. (Cue swelling music by Dionne Warwick (not Celine Dion)).
16jjmcgaffey
I had one where a mooch of mine had been accepted, and was waiting a while (it didn't feel very long to me - maybe a couple weeks). Then she emailed me that she had been unable to find the book, so she'd ordered it off Amazon for me! In my feedback to her I said I wished there was a way to give her +2, because she deserved it. I gave her a smooch - not that she needed it, she has ridiculous numbers of points, but she deserved it.
17flaukie
I also got smooched by the secret santa a few days ago, and both my friends and I were literally jumping up and down because we were so happy (my books all travel through my friends hands as well). We spent a wounderful afternoon browsing inventories and deciding what to mooch. :-)
18mint910
Aww! I love hearing these stories. It's good to know there are wonderful people in the world :)
19englishrose60
Ill second that mint. It warms the heart:)

15 - I had something similar happen to me recently. I mooched one book from a fabulous LTer and received 3 books instead. It was absolutely lovely.
21englishrose60
I've been smooched!!! Thank you very much whoever you are!!!
22janmpb
OMG! This is so exciting! (does that mean I have a boring life?) I got smooched and didn't even know anything about smooching before except I had seen the topic on here but never looked at it! Oh, it really does brighten my day, you just can't imagine! Thanks SO MUCH! VERY SWEET thing to do. I just LOVE it. It made my day!
23FaerytaleMalice
Does it tell you when you get smooched, or is it just like "zomg I have one more point"?
25FaerytaleMalice
Haha, so BM tells you.
Thank you to whomever smooched me!
Once I save up some points, I'll keep the love going around.
& yes, it was like "zomg I have one more point".

Well, now so have I. And after my smooch I had exactly one point, ha ha ha. Thanks so much, smooch faery!
29RidgewayGirl
I was smooched a few days ago and I want to thank, thank, thank my anonymous smoocher. I have just been generally pleased with the world for the past few days due to the generosity of people who choose to remain nameless.
30Jenson_AKA_DL
I received an anonymous smooch today and was tickled pink :-) It is very much appreciated as I have only a couple points at the moment.
31LeesyLou
Maybe we need to have a shirt made up for each of you..."I'm on LT and BMooch and I'm SMOOCHY"
XOXOX (who wouldn't want hugs and smooches?)

That would be a great shirt! Maybe include a picture of smoochy lips! It is so joyful to be smooched!

I just read this thread today, thinking, how nice the givers are, and how lucky the receivers are, and boom I get home to find out I've been smooched!!!

What a joy to wake and find three smooches for moi. Two anonymous and one from the delightful Kihera.I almost feel as if I awoke in an orgy.
I assume these lovely people are responding to my post about running out of points.I have rectified that problem so please, thats enough smooching! People will talk.

I've decided to stop mooching books for a while, so as soon as I get points, I'm going to go around smooching :D
(I'll never read all of the books I have, so until I make a significant dent, no more mooching. I'll try anyway.)

37- You are a braver person then myself.. :) I love refreshing and seeing what's popping up on my wishlist, it's all about the hunt!
41wester
#38: you can put a link to your BM profile in your LT profile: go to Edit profile, and then to Also on, choose BookMooch in the dropdown menu and fill in your BM handle. And voila, we can all find you on BM as well.
42LeesyLou
#39, yeah, I'm a wishlist stalker. I've gotten several books for my children which just popped up for a minute; of course I've missed a few which showed as available but were gone by the time I hit the "mooch" button.
It's all about the hunt. Oh, and about the big piles of books tbr in my house.

43FaerytaleMalice
39: The things on my wishlist never pop up. If they do, I'd probably break and mooch them haha.
44Moniica
I do apologise for reviving an old topic, however I've just received my very first smooch! ^__^;
I have a feeling it was from someone here, and I'd just like to say THANK YOU! It was such a nice surprise! (:

I just got an anonysmooch today too! I was low on points, so it really brightened my day!

I love giving anonymous smooches - makes me chuckle especially if I see a thank you on the forum. (Sorry I'm not the anonymous smoocher in the previously mentioned few cases here - but you never know in future!)
48sorchah
I think I got two in one week a while back.
I like to give them to anonymous people I find browsing who have good taste but few points! I also steal smooch virginity. ;)

sorchah, I think stealing book smooch virginity is a misdemeanor but you probably like that. LOL If you read Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series you could probably do something with that in a plot.
50agatatera
I'm on BM since Saturday and I've got Smooch alraeady 3 times! 7 points more for a newbie to start :D I'm happy, it's such a nice idea to be able to give points to some person :)
51janmpb
Wow! You are so lucky! That's wonderful for you to be able to get some more books now. Smooches are fantastic.
52agatatera
I've got another anonymus Smooch today afternoon! It's soooo cool guys! Thanks for all my anonymus and not anonymus Smoochers which made my BM beginning a way nicer :D Now, I just need to change my ratio for better one before I'll continue mooching books ;)
Any person interested in books in Polish? I have plenty of them.

52: I wish I understood any Polish at all. Looking at it makes me want to cry haha.
I think the other day I got a bunch of smooches from someone I was going to mooch from once I had points again. Because I got five in one day. This was yesterday, actually.
And two more today O.O

55- When I got a few smooches I think I gasped and held my hands to my mouth. Then starting like jumping up and down (while still sitting down) and swaying from side to side. It was pretty fun!
58TheresaHPIR
Ooops...I forgot to thank the anonymous smoocher (if he or she is here) for my smooch awhile back! That was a really sweet surprise...and I gladly used that point to pick up another title in my Time Life Books Mysteries of the Unknown series.
59janmpb
TheresaHPIR,
I'm so glad that you liked the book that I sent you. I think it was called Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century. At some point after I sent it to you, I looked at your profile and realized that it was a perfect book for you and was so glad that I had it to give you. I had only glanced through it and thought that it was such a cool book and was hoping that someone would get it that would really appreciate it. My MIL gave it to me along with a few other books to swap. I don't really know how or why she had it but it didn't look as though it was even touched much to me. It needed a better home and you gave it one. Thanks.

I'm pretty brand-new to the whole BookMooch thang, so imagine my surprise when I received my first anonymous smooch this morning! And I have a very strong suspicion that the smoocher is here, so I'd like to say thank you where he (or she) will hopefully see it :)
65kgriffith
and another one!!! Somebody must really want to hear me relay the woes of a partner who can't build shelves fast enough to accommodate my new mooching habit! Thank you!!!!!

I believe I have missed out on this smooching phenomenon until now... I had no idea it was so common!
73shamicnic
Me too! I have been a bookmoocher for a few months now and saw the "smooch" in the menu option column, but have not known what it meant. I will have to look into this!
74agatatera
When I joined BM during first 3 or 4 days I've got a few smooches and it made my days :D It's such a cool feeling when sometime smooch you some points without any reason besides one - just to make you happy :)
I'm desperately trying to get some point right now to mooch some of my wishlisted books, but in the future when I'll finally grab some more points I plan to smooch people as well :D It must be cool feeling as well to share the points like that :)

I got my first smooch this past Wednesday, which made a difficult week a lot better. I think I have an idea of who it was, but still, I love the anonymous factor because the people doing the giving are just doing it out of the goodness of their hearts and not for recognition.
So, thanks to my smoocher!

After a longer break today I've got 3 smooches, so 3 points! It's soooo sweet, I love it! Thanks to that I could mooch a book which was waiting, reserved for me, but I did not have enough points :D
Now, I just need to read all those books which I will get and put them in the inventory, because until then I'll have just 2 points :/
Thank you my dear Smoocher!

I also received an anonymous smooch sometime this weekend!! How exciting and if that smoocher is here, thanks so much! It's so encouraging to feel loved :)
87LeesyLou
I've never received an anonymous smooch; I've only gotten them as a result of a private trade. I've given occasional smooches though, as well as adding little "extras" to mooches I'm mailing out (surprise 2 for ones based on wish lists and so on) and once someone did send a little extra free cereal box book along with a book for my toddler and I was just thrilled. Most of my points get used by my kids for books for fun or for school, so I don't give out too many charity or smooch points because I don't want to short-change the kids, but I think I should start going ahead and smooching. You all are inspiring me by having such fun getting smooches. Now to choose a first "victim" when I get home from work.
Edited to add: about 5 minutes after I posted this plan to share the BM love, I got a message that someone had smooched me. Thank you to my first anonymous smoocher, and yes, I do intend to pass the smooches along tonight!
Edited again to add: and now when I got home I found I have another smooch! Picture big smiles.

This is the cutest thread ever!!! I check it everyday just to soak up some of the Moochy goodness!!! I have received an anonysmooch and it was better than receiving an unsolicited ARC. Thank you to all the anonysmoochers and anonysmoochees for sharing on this thread.

#87 Cool that you've got a first smooch before giving your own :) Isn't a nice feeling? ;)
91mint910
Ahhh! I just got smooched! I have no idea who by! I hope they read this board! I'm so excited! You don't know how much of a kick I get out of refreshing my wishlist at work and seeing a book up for grabs, I usually gasp! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

Holy mackeral ~ so this is what it feels like to receive an anonymous smooch! All warm & fuzzy & happy...also crazy curious about the identity of my secret smoocher; would love to say a proper thank you. I could easily become a serious smoocher stalker but will instead cultivate a quieter gratitude attitude ~ and bask in the anonymous glow. It's humbling, in the nicest possible way. Grazie mille.

Thanks so much to the smoocher(s) who've brightened my day twice this week. Really lovely to get - mostly for the feeling of having been thought of, although I will spend those points quickly enough!

I just got my first anonymous smooch. I think it was someone here, because the message they left was "Drive-by Smooch!" So thank you, anonymous smoocher!
109Allama
I can't help wondering if "Drive-by Smooches" are something done commonly (i.e. by many members) or if a single user is smooching all of us in this manner. If it's the latter, which is admittedly doubtful, that person must be both point-rich and very generous!

Ditto here! I got my first "drive by smooch!" I feel the need to smooch in return...I'm actually trying to get rid of points!

I know my smoocher is a Librarythanger (*grin*), just don't know which one; I hope s/he reads this thread!
re: smooch message
Yes, it is a real pity one can't purchase Fluevogs with moochy points, but then, I'd be faced with a quandary - make more room for books, or make more room for shoes? Mooch out more books to get more of both?? Cycle shoes out and install shelving in the closet??? I'd likely go mad inside a month, so maybe it's best this way. THANK YOU!!!! *smooches back*

#115 Yes, yes I AM greedy. But the books I want just don't come up that often and I've got 60 something books in my TBR pile.
My name is Brenda (pause for people to say "Hi Brenda!") and I've got too many points. (but I'm NOT the recent smoocher!)

I'm with you: most of the books I really want just do not come up that often. After I had a good run on my inventory (I think I got a good dozen points in a matter of days on domestic mooches) I started mooching books that I wanted less badly but that were on offer in greater numbers. I actually read some decent books that I would not have spent money on otherwise.
Edited to add that this doesn't mean that I have multiple, conflicting views on said books. Just that they're really not my cup of tea. And since I know they're not my cup of tea, I wouldn't knock myself out or anything to read them.
Edited again to close HTML tag.

>115 RidgewayGirl: My shelves are so full that I regularly cull out old books. Plus, I acted as an angel several times. Those international packages are more expensive to mail, but the points rack up pretty quickly. I suddenly realized that I had almost 300 points! It was shocking. It's not as if I haven't been mooching books. I have ~700 marked TBR in my library. That's the main reason for my contest. If I used all my available points for books, the Estimable Mr. H would ... would ... talk to me sternly.
121kgriffith
>120 VeraMarie:: "would... would... talk to me sternly."
Haha, yeah, we have this in common. Well, it wouldn't be Mr. H, but you know what I mean ;)

122ealaindraoi
I just came back from the PO where I mailed (mostly overseas) books totaling 19 points. No wonder I've got so many points!! It's interesting, to mail packages totaling 19 points domestic would cost $45, to mail these cost me $33 and I included extra books in two packages. It's actually often cheaper per point to ship internationally.
The Mr would never talk to me sternly about excess books, because I'd look at him over the top of my glasses and ask if we were also going to talk about his excesses....!

I have been the recipient of stern talking-tos and I can tell you all right now, they don't work :-P
124kgriffith
hahaha... BookMooch was actually the result of a stern talking-to... It was a way to "get rid of some of these books you know you're never going to read, or read again, that are old and musty and making it so I can't even come into your room without taking an allergy pill."
ahem.
I don't think that she's yet picked up on the fact that more books have come in than gone out via mooching and PBSwapping... Of course, it helps that I'm finding a bunch of obscure books she's been looking for and can't find for sale anywhere. I've also learned that not letting the books pile up on the desk after they're cataloged gives the impression of fewer new-to-me books having entered the home... I'm so bad...

Cracking up here... You guys are funny!
Last time I counted, my TBR was 254, plus lots more packed away in boxes. ::sigh::
I really am trying to mooch less! It IS getting a little easier, since the TBR has super-sized itself. ::ahem::
And VeraMarie, 300 points?!? Yowza. I've got 11 right now, & that's a lot for me.
I should go read.

And VeraMarie, 300 points?!? Yowza. I've got 11 right now, & that's a lot for me.
I should go read.

I would have soooo many more points if I'd stuck to my original plan, getting RID of books. When I first signed up for BM I didn't even think about *getting* books.... wishlist was honestly an unknown term for me. ......... That didn't last too long, though.
I've noticed that I've been giving a lot more smooches since I joined this LT BM group..... I guess because I see more people who need them. lol

While I do appreciate the smooch, I would advise that folks check how many points your intended recipient has before clicking that button. I have 50+ points, so I'll be passing this (and any future) smooches on to a charity account.
129retropelocin
There's nothing wrong with that.
I just gave 2 smooches to someone who sent me, what I consider, a treasure. She has 30+ points but I was sooo thrilled I wanted nothing more than to thank her over and over. I would have kissed her on both cheeks if she had given it to me in person.
If she chooses to charity those points, that's fine with me.
For me, giving a smooch is a bit like a gift to myself, if that makes sense.

#128 Awww, a smooch is just a nice thing and paying it forward either to someone who needs it or a charity is a nice thing too.
#129 I tend to happily smooch people who angel for me or people who send me books from overseas. I'm so grateful to them that I'm happy BM has a way to express that.

I agree wholeheartedly - it is very nice to be told 'someone thinks you are fabulous'!!
My points have been racking up through 'angel' mooches too; and I seem to have acquired a lot more points than I expected.
I, too don't need the point from a smooch, but the sentiment for getting a book out to someone who really wants it , and then the ability to share their enthusiasm and appreciation is priceless - IMHO!
And then I will have spare points to smooch back!
edited so it makes sense! (perhaps) and to add that this thread is very entertaining and I have been laughing (with you all) a lot!

Wowsa! I received my very first Smooch this morning - and it was one of the anonymous 'Drive-by Smooch' ones . . . boy, that driver has been very busy!!!
Thank you so much to whoever it is. You are so sweet!

Wow, I'm starting to feel a little left out! I'm getting that feeling when you're the one in the gym class that doesn't get picked till last for a team or when you only get a few valentines when most of the girls got a million!
134MrAndrew
They're all floozies, janmpb. Sure, it's all good times now, but will the moochers respect them in the morning?
135kgriffith
>134 MrAndrew:: It's a good thing I haven't gotten to the coffee yet, or else the nose, monitor, and keyboard would all be suffering... *grin*

Whew! I feel so much better now! Thanks so much to my anonymous smoocher! What a lovely gift to receive. Such a brighter day and the whole world seems better now!

OOooooh! I just got an anonymous smooch that said "just because"! I'm SO excited! If it was someone here, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Somehow you knew that I needed it very badly! We've had some awful news and I sure needed a lift.

I just got a smooch and it was for "making me laugh" ~!
I was so surprised... I think it's from someone on this community (^-^)
And now... now... I have enough points to complete my English Animorphs collection!
*dances*
Thank you very very much, person-who-gave-me-a-smooch!
*dances some more*
(^-^)
Yay!

Thank you, thank you! Whoever you are! I promise to spend that point quickly!!

144- I'm always taken off guard when someone mooches from me too! There can be weeks, for awhile even months between mooches and then someone mooches a book! I usually have to run and tell my sister and she's just like "Oh... that's nice" *eyeroll* It's too exciting!
153mint910
OMG! From when I left work this evening til now I got 3 smooches! What is going on!!!!! I screamed, and luckily my sister was nearby and gave me a smooch (kiss) of her own! LOL! Thank you to whoever smooched me! You guys are so nice!! Time to daydream about some books!
154rosalita
What a mysterious and lovely thing an anonymous smooch is! If my smoocher is here, thank you!
155Medellia
Oh, good! I didn't know that a thread like this existed. I've received some anonymous smooches lately, and I just can't figure out who to thank! I put up a thank you notice on my profile in case the perpetrator(s) stopped by. So, to cover my bases, if you're here, THANK YOU!
156rubs917
hiya i'm a newbie in bookmooch :)
took me a while to figure out what a smooch was but it's sooo sweet! :)

Thank you, anony-smoocher!
159mint910
So this isn't exactly the right place to post this but I'm really excited because i got 2 mooches this morning! Back to back from different moochers! I figured those books would be stuck in my inventory for years!!! Yay!
160RidgewayGirl
mint910, that is a good feeling. Especially when you know they'll go where they're wanted.
I received another smooch this afternoon. Many, many thanks! Someday you (or, more likely, all of you) will have to reveal your identity so as to let all recipients of your largesse compose poems in your honor.

O Serial Smoocher, O Smoocher Fine
Ne'er thy kindness shalt thee repine,
The joys that thou so gen'rous share
Shalt follow thee, from here to there
And thou shalt live what some believe,
"Tis best to give and not receive"
Although the bliss thou doth bestow
Is like a gift to thee, I trow.
So wend thy way with wondrous wiles
Spreading thy gifts of books and smiles
And though thy name hath not been guessed,
Many a one thy name hath blessed.
Anyone care to add some more stanzas? :)

Wow.

I've been smooched! =D Many thanks to my anony-smoocher!!!
Couldn't have come at a better time - I've just been in the throes of frustration with a bad mooch.
I wish BM had a Block function, to block out members you don't wish to mooch from. :-(

Reading this thread always makes my day. :)
Plus, after seeing some of your stories a few weeks back, I gave a couple of 'just because' smooches and, I agree, it just plain feels good. I think the smooch function was a brilliant addition to the site.
(And wisewoman... wow! That ought to be put to music.)
ETA: I couldn't hope to add a stanza to such a beautifully crafted ballad, but I did manage a little limerick... :)
Among us there be Smoochers stealthy
Gifting smiles to all those less point-wealthy
Like Robin Book-Hoods
They pass 'round the goods
Making BookMooch a site bright and healthy.

I had a 'drive by' smooch a while back and haven't been able to post on the BM forums (where I think the person responsible for it might be) but I did want to say a big thank you for it, just in case he or she is here too!
It really did make me smile and I loved the book too, so thank you!

Thanks! and Thanks for whoever left me another smooch. I'm so happy! Books are my favorite present!

#175 - you have to be a BookMooch member for a full week before you can start smooching points to people ;-)
178RidgewayGirl
I have received two smooches in the past week. Thank you and thank you, again.
179kgriffith
I got a veritable make-out session Saturday night, and I think I know who sent the smooches ;) Thank you, thank you, thank you! You didn't have to, but you know that. *hugs*
181VictoriaPL
Thanks for the smooch, whoever sent it, I really appreciate it.
