Because there have been so many delays on Track 3 (aka-Railway Ties and Thought Tangles), a new train has been set on the track.

I just hope we fixed the brakes before we start down that first hill...

I'm mystified as to how you got "SPLAT" to stand out there on its own -- I'm sure it was a grim battle between you and LT's built-in code that usually takes out extra spaces and line breaks.

A model? Weird. A motel? I still am missing where that quote is from. Please tell me that was a quote from something...

Ah I love that first photo MrA.

Let see. Well I was sort of dreading coming back from the move and seeing how many posts there were in my absence.

The move itself was a special treat which I won't bother to complain about only wonder who gets the apartments I clean because I never seem to move to an apartment that I don't have to clean first.

I will have actual home internet access starting Thursday. I have not unpacked any of my many many heavy books.

How is everyone?

38Espeon200

46Kerian

We have a container full of random assortments such as colored pencils, markers, and glitter glue. My kid sister used to bring them with her to trips when she was going to visit her dad. This container has been in the car several years, usually in the trunk.

Someone brought in it the house yesterday and asked my kid sister to go through it to get rid of the things that don't work. We all heard a scream, and came to see her covered in silver glitter glue. It had exploded! Some of it was even on Slinky and the carpet.

47kirbyowns

Were you able to get it out, or are they still all glittery? I guess the glitter glue was working! ;)

49Kerian
Aug 12, 2008, 4:46 pm

Yep, definitely working!

It's all off of my sister and the cat. The carpeting isn't so lucky except that it's thin and has a pattern to it to help blend it in. We're going to cross our fingers and try cleaning it a second time now.

So my husbands birthday is on tuesday but one of his gifts arrived yesterday. Seeing as how it was the present he picked out himself I told him he could open it last night.

Well this gift is a new lightweight hiking tent. Which is now set up in my bedroom. My husband was is so excited that he finally has his almost dream tent that he wants to camp on our second story porch this weekend. I'd be worried if he wasn't so darn cute about it all.

72Kerian
Aug 14, 2008, 1:54 pm

It's tough with dogs sometimes! We often set up a tent in the backyard. Fiona (one of two dogs) always wants to go in the tent. Rather than risk having the tent torn as some dogs we used to have always did, she's let in the tent. She loves it.

73Mandy2

74Kerian

Smiley, I didn't know you had to deal with two boys. I'm sorry. Is the sore throat from yelling at them, or just from being exposed to them? Make sure you wash your hands frequently next time. It's the best defense against the little germ carriers. The only way I know of to deal with the fighting is to give them separate activities, preferably in different rooms. Get well soon!

Thanks for the applause MrA! And K, I'm not that brave. I just know not to catch the flaming end. ;o) Luckily, the ground was still pretty wet from all the rain we've been getting. I wouldn't try this during a dry spell.

So, a bat flew down my sister (holly's) chimney last night and into their house. Luckily my nephew was safe in bed with the door to his room closed. After a while my sister and her hubby couldn't find it so they went up to bed, it was under their bed. They called the landlord's who basically just said they would call animal control today. They managed to get it out of their room and get their door closed so they could (kind of) sleep. This morning though Holly got a present.....from their cat! Rosie took out the bat! This is surprising to me, she's a very skittish little girl, declawed (by the people who had her before my sister) and never struck me as a mouser or birder...I guess she's a batter!

They're taking her to the vet this morning, make sure there's no rabies. But three cheers for my cat-niece!

104MsDonna
Aug 20, 2008, 4:53 pm

Kerian ROFL - I'm sure people use to try and avoid me at social events because I always managed to bring up the subject of my rabbits. Even though they are long gone (more than 4 years), when I was given a Pandora bracelet by friends at work recently they had put a rabbit charm on it.

105Kerian
Edited: Aug 20, 2008, 5:32 pm

Just like that, you are the rabbit woman for all time. (I googled that bracelet since I'd never heard of it, by the way. Very nice gift!) I get a pair of socks with cats on them from one of my grandmothers every year. It makes me feel like I can relate to Ron Weasley, though I do love the socks. :)

Now I'm thinking of the Book Quiz I once took. It tells you what book you are. I'm supposed to be Watership Down. It says I talk about rabbits all the time. Rabbits = cats? ;)

It kind of annoys me when people get me cat themed gifts just because I like cats. Especially after Umbridge and her kitten plates. brrr.

I hated Umbridge for liking cats so much! She ruined them and made sweet innocent kitties look horrible. I adored those plates in her office. They were far above a bit much, but I couldn't stop myself from saying "Awww!"

I've found also found that I've enjoyed my cat themed gifts from those who have cats more so. I have a heart-shaped keychain with two cats on it that my mother gave me when I was going through some bad times in my teens. It says "Someone loves you. Me!" It's always been very special to me.

#105: - Kerian - I was very surprised when I received the gift considering the gift I received last year was a pair of hand knitted bed socks.

#JP - no more rabbits for me my last one broke my heart and bank balance. You'll have to ask MrA about the bank balance bit as it still chokes me up to think about him.

I found out while I was gone this summer that Tumbledore's a girl. Not very feminine of a name, I know.

I'm up late! 2:12am. I was typing my book wishlist so I'd have a copy to keep in my bag. Of course, now I see the awful flaw that since the size of our wishlists are always increasing due to good book recommendations here, it's entirely hopeless to keep them all typed up. I was hoping for the typed list to make it easier for me when I go bookshopping. (Guess what I'm doing the weekend following this one? ;)

Goodnight, or for Donna and MrA ... still goodnight? Hmm. Good evening. (9pm-ish, yes?)

114 Kerian, so I was thinking that Rowling must be a dog person because of how Umbridge liked cats (plates, at least) and she made Sirius turn into a dog. Then I remembered Crookshanks and wasn't sure.

121biblioholic29
Aug 21, 2008, 8:49 am

Crookshanks was based on a stray cat who used to hang around the cafe where she wrote. I think I learned that on her website.

You must also remember that McG turns into a cat. But then, Hagrid has fang. I think she's just an animal lover.

#115- *hugs for MsD.* I know how you feel. We've had many cats break our bank account only to lose them to incurable diseases. It hurts, but I always end up with more.

#116-That's the reason we keep ending up with more. OH MY GOSH WHAT A CUTE KITTY FACE!!!!

#121-122- I agree. Rowling is an animal lover. Who can blame her? If I could have a pet dragon, I would. Curse my brimstone allergies! Are there any non-flammable dragons?

#120 compski:
I never even thought about if she was a dog or cat person! Based from how well she captured Sirius as a dog, I'd say she's definitely had one. I've had dogs and used to consider myself a dog person, but I don't feel that I could write about them anywhere near as well as Rowling did. Crookshanks is in the background more, I think. Maybe Rowling is a dog person. :)

#121 bib:
I didn't know that! :)

#123 jp:

Thank you! Some people who see her call her ugly because of her face but I think she's absolutely beautiful.

Every so often something happens that makes me think of the Harry Potter books. A customer at work once held up a yellow rubber duck, asked me what it was and what it's purpose was. Chamber of Secrets. I loved that scene! Over this weekend there was a woman counting out change for her transaction and she told me she didn't know the coins. Goblet of Fire. (There was more than one time Mr. Weasley had trouble with muggle money, but it made me think of that book.) Mr. Weasley's awesome. :)

Obviously, you occasionally get WttPs as shoppers! What fun!

I think several wizards live on my street, actually. There are several places where the street numbers skip one -- including between my house and the neighboring house. The lots aren't very big, so I'm convinced that the missing house numbers belong to wizarding residences that are hidden from Muggle view!

I have no voice right now, and it's frickin annoying. my boyfriend keeps forgetting and calling me on his breaks. it'd be nice to be able to actually talk. especially since I move down to school tomorrow, and he's getting kicked out of his house because his room mate is an absolute jerk, so we've been working on finding a new place for for him to live, mostly via text-messaging.

169foggidawn
Aug 29, 2008, 8:29 am

Cool! This is much better than having to scroll down through all of the comments to get to the box! (But I've always been able to archive comments -- or did you mean that you can now archive all of them in one fell swoop?)

170biblioholic29
Aug 29, 2008, 8:35 am

The one fell swoop thing. When you archive comments, where do they go and how do you get them back? I've never done it, but I probably should.

171foggidawn
Aug 29, 2008, 9:07 am

Heh. I've never tried to get them back. Actually, I think there's a "Show archived comments" link right next to the "Archive all comments" one when you have some archived ones. Basically, archived comments don't show on your profile -- I think they put them into "storage" somehow -- it's too early in the morning for me to remember technical computing terms. Anyhow, you can get them back if you want them.

172biblioholic29
Aug 29, 2008, 9:33 am

Hmmm....there is a show all archived comments link....has that always been there? I'm soooooo not observant, I'm often made fun of for it.

Anyway, I knew that you should be able to get archived comments back, that's why you archive instead of delete, but I had never seen the "show archived comments" thing before so I wasn't sure where they would go if I did archive them and sometimes I do go back because I know I had a conversation with someone about something and I didn't want to risk archiving them and not being able to get them back, because, lets face it, LT is generally fairly user friendly, but not all of it is intuitive (like writing reviews) and I was afraid that archived comments might be something like that....

I'm going to shut up now.

#168 bib:
Thanks for the warning. I really don't think I like the change. It will take getting used to.

#170-172:
There is a way you can put your archived comments back on your profile. Click "Show archived comments." Find the archived comment you wish to put back on your profile, and then click "de-archive" on the bottom of that comment. You may click "Back to regular comments" to return to your comment page as other LTers view it, with your recently de-archived comment on your profile page once more. :)

#172 bib:
I know the feeling. I've always regretted archiving comments, and to delete them sounds horrible. If you could see all my comments and the archived ones, you'd see my profile page would be miles long. ;)

On the note of invisible comments, it seems my "Beware of Invisibility" sign has done the trick. Not only have I not received any more invisible comments, but I didn't even see anything to tell me I actually have a new unread comment.

...

I had a really strange snack yesterday. I put a little bit of chocolate covered pretzels, goldfish crackers, dried strawberries, and apple cinnamon rice cakes into a small blue bowl. As soon as I sat down with my book and the bowl, I realized it had me strongly thinking of a story I had read and lead a class presentation on in a Women's Lit class. The story is called "The Body." At the end of the story, a man finds a blue bowl with dead bees and rose petals (which my dried strawberries resembled) inside the bowl left on his front porch by a woman. I remember I'd had a lot of fun buying little fake bees and roses at Michael's Arts and Crafts to put together a visual aid and still have it in a box in my room.

Okay -- if this is news, it deserves its own thread. If it's just my computer being dumb, then maybe not.

Is the Lexicon down?

I was going fact-checking over there, and when I try to pull up the Lexicon, I get a black page with some ads and some broken image links. I thought maybe my bookmark was wrong, but I get the same thing trying to come through Google or Wikipedia -- in fact, if I try to click to one of the other pages on the site through Wikipedia, I get a 404 (page not found) error.

I remember someone saying that, with the lawsuit troubles, the Lexicon might one day just go away. I'd think there would be either explanation on the site's former homepage or lots of news clippings, but I checked Mugglenet, HPANA, and the Leaky, and I'm getting nothing.

I think as someone who doesn't have a strong love for music that I'm missing out on something. Over the weekend, I heard this girl talking about some actor who's going to play the role of a musician she's a huge fan of in a movie. When another woman said she'd seen the musician in concert, the girl said "You actually saw him?! I'm going to cry!" I didn't think she would, but her eyes actually misted and began to water. Then she cried, and cried, and cried so very much! I was so amazed anyone could cry that much and that hard for music. Of course, the group of people I was with were just as baffled over me as they were that girl, because I asked, "Who's (I've forgotten his name)?"

We once had two kittens who wandered off to have one of them return on their own a year later. It might ordinarily be tough to be sure it was the same cat because of the amount of changing they do in the first year, but it was an extremely unique print. I believe it was a calico.

I always have trouble with tombstones, too. They don't stay standing up no matter how many things I put in front and behind them. Four nails into the ground attached to the tombstones seems to work best, though not as much as lining them up against the bush surrounding the front of the house.

My kid sister told me what her costume is going to be this year. I'm afraid I can't say what it is. She needs a new idea or she'll find herself grounded by our grandmother, though. How did she get so funny?

So I spent the morning yelling at a customer service machine. Honestly, I don't care if they want to humanize these computers, but all I wanted to do was get credit for a newspaper that wasn't delivered. I said I didn't get yesterday's paper and it kept asking me if it was only today's paper that was missing.

The machine is particularly annoying because it makes typing noises when it's getting information. I know it's a machine, pretending it is typing just insults my intelligence.

Which makes me wonder if computers have too much freedom in our world. Start letting them have customer service jobs and they're just going to want to raise that glass ceiling. Next thing you know, they'll be picketing for their right to vote.

239Kerian

I had an incredibly strange dream last night. Parts of it were kind of sci-fic, which is really unusual. Perhaps if my alarm hadn't been set this morning I would have seen the picketing for computer rights to vote. ;)

I'm sorry about the machine!

In my house, it doesn't matter half the time if you plug things in. Half the outlets don't work. The best one is in the kitchen.
