I read this book as a child and loved it. I want to locate a copy for my son. It is a book about a really cool cat. This cat had to be talked into going to the beach "come on carl, let's go to the beach" and Carl would say something like "okay, but only if I can drive".
No funny business by Edith Thacher Hurd; Clement Hurd. When Carl the cat is left at home while the family goes on a picnic, he goes to sleep and dreams that he is on the picnic and having all kinds of adventures.
Oh great! That was relatively easy to find luckily (searching Carl cat in keywords on WorldCat.org, with a year range and limiting to English, book and juvenile fiction). I wish all books were so easy to search for!
