Just got a Kindle (yeah me!) and, of course, I can't wait to fill it with books to read. What awesome free romance books have you downloaded on your Kindle?
Congrats on your new Kindle. I love mine.
I've downloaded about a dozen free romance titles, some great, some OK, some terrible or with a hidden agenda to preach religion.
The problem is that the good authors tend to make the first book in a series available for a limited time only (several weeks usually) to get new readers for the whole series. This means that the titles I got free are now back to full price. Recently I snagged Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon, Slow Ride, by Lorelei James, and About a Dragon, by G. A. Aiken. Of these only Slow Ride is still available free, so grab it quick if you like Western themed romance - great series.
What we need is for this thread to be an ongoing one, alerting romance readers when a title goes up free. Have fun with your Kindle!
Phenomenal Girl 5 by A.J. Menden is a free Kindle download right now - it's a paranormal romance about superheroes. I've been meaning to try a book by this author, so I was pretty excited to see it as a free download this week.
Got it! Thanks for posting. Looks very interesting and will get me out of the historical romance rut.
There's a great blog called Books on the Knob that lists free (and discounted) Kindle and other ebooks. It has a wide variety, but includes a lot of romance.
Millie's Fling, is a Kindle Freebie right now. Chick lit set in England and has a 4 1/2 star rating after 27 reviews - not bad.
I found the best way to search Amazon for freebies is to enter "Kindle freebies" in search, then sort the list by "lowest to highest price" and all the free ones are listed first.
>8 Okay, I downloaded Millie's Fling and couldn't stop reading it. Very funny author!! Good idea on her part to offer it for free because now I'll probably pay for some of her other books.
kristinmm, don't you love it when a free book is a good read! I've discovered several new-to-me authors this way and I really don't mind paying for a good book, though I might buy it used for a better price.
I wanted to clarify my search suggestion in #8. When you search for "Kindle Freebies" a lot of books that are not free come up too. So sorting by lowest to highest price makes it easier to weed through the list for the romance titles. You will also find a lot of books with very low ratings. If a book is only 2 1/2 to 3 stars, I don't care if it's free, I'd rather pay for a higher rated title. So many books, so little time.
NOT FREE, but only $1.99 - Pleasures of the Night by Sylvia Day. This author is on Library Thing and has been on my want list for a while to try, but her books are expensive. This first title in a series of two so far is now at a reduced price, normally $9.99 for Kindle. Both books in the series are rated 4 1/2 stars.
With the standard caveat that taste is a very personal thing and one person's trash is another's treasure, I still feel that I should let you know, Diane, that I read Pleasures of the Night a couple of years ago and found it just awful. Really, really, really irredeemably bad. Which was kind of surprising because I had found a couple of Sylvia Day's historicals silly but fun. If you want to read a book by Day, I'd suggest The Stranger I Married as the best book by her that I've read.
marietherese, that bad huh? - DARN! Ratings can't always be trusted. I'll probably give her a chapter and see what I think. I really should use that feature on Amazon more often to read a first chapter free before buying.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I'm not a romance reader. However, I did get the free Kindle romance offered today Always the Baker, Never the Bride. It may still be up at amazon for free. If not, it is loanable.
I find my Kindle freebies using the blog ireaderreview.com - I usually just wade through the extra ebook economy and device reviews to get to the free book links. Right now, there are a few free Kindle books in the romance genre:
* Big Girls Don't Die: In The Heat Of The Night, Book 2 by Crystal Jordan (paranormal romance/erotic romance)
* Summer At Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs (contemporary romance)
* Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson (young adult book that looks like it might have a little romance)
This title popped up when I checked the freebies in #15. Fools Rush In. It's contemporary, christian fiction and written in first person. Four and half stars rating after 58 reviews. Thought it might be interesting to some readers.
I have this thing about first person books though..., most anyway.
Not Kindle-specific, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread.
Carina Press is giving away a free ebook (pdf and epub) every Wednesday this month. First one is Coin Operated by Ginny Glass.
Make sure you enter the coupon code COINFREE
Good till tonight, 11.59 ET.
Thank you so much for telling everyone about the free book from Carina Press. I should have come here and told everyone. I do have a conundrum in that when we set up our HarlequinBooks account, I was told that promos and contests had to be done in the Author section b/c promoting within the threads - even the thread in the Romance Group that is for promos / contests /freebies - was against policy here. So even if I HAD remembered to come tell everyone, it wouldn't have been where you all would have seen it easily. :( So next week I'll remember, but again the info will be over in the Hobnob with Authors threads . . .
Free Historical Romance for Kindle Swept Away by Marsha Canham on Amazon.

Three Free books from Amazon that look very promising.

Long Hard Ride - http://www.amazon.com/Long-Hard-Ride-Riders-ebook/dp/B000R93E34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT...
Making Waves - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00408AIQO?tag=kiq-free-e-20
One more freebie on the sexy side:
A Little Harmless Sex
Enjoy! Gotta love your Kindle.
I just got Cotillion by Georgette Heyer free on amazon today (6/11/2011) for my kindle.
I asked this elsewhere too, but I'm wondering how intrusive the ads are on the cheaper kindles. Both versions offer the discount. Is it worth the savings?
I picked it up too lol - I havent read a Historical in a while but for 99 cents & "a must read/funny" It was a must buy. Thanks for the tip!
A recent Kindle freebie I really did not enjoy was Lauren Dane's Giving Chase. It may well be the worst book I've read all year. Dreadful prose, ridiculously cliched characters and settings and a plot so predictable and so dull that reading the phone book would have held more narrative interest for me. Even free, I can't recommend it.
I just finished Shattered Dreams by Laura Landon and really enjoyed it. It is a 99 cent Kindle book. It is this first book I've tried by this author and I went back for more. Based on Amazon ratings, I also picked up a Cynthia Wicklund, In the Garden of Disgrace I think. Not many ratings here at LT for her.
Read a very cute short (novella?) contemporary rom-com -- no heat, quite sweet -- called It's In His Kiss by Caitie Quinn. It was 99 cents, which I think is about right for a novella.
LauraKCurtis, I just looked at the Amazon preview and that Caitie Quinn story seems really charming! Love the excerpt and the narrator's voice. It's going on my wishlist and I plan to buy it when I get a couple of other Kindle orders together. Thanks for mentioning it here (I love sweet, funny, first-person romance and they seem like they're in too short supply lately, so all recommendations are very welcome!)
marietherese - me, too! I don't generally like short stories, so I was reluctant to download it, and I do wish she'd written a full-length one, but maybe she will.
>28 Thanks for the tip on Lord of Scoundrels, oxtina143! I just finished it and agree that it is pretty darn wonderful, especially for the 99 cent price.
An update: Right now on Amazon and elsewhere (Kobo, Sony, etc.) Lisa Cach's light and funny time-travel romance George and the Virgin is free, as is Sherwood Smith's YA fantasy romance Once a Princess. Courtney Milan's Unlocked, which has received rave reviews from pretty much everyone, is just $0.99.
Tsunami Blue by Gayle Ann Williams is a free Amazon Kindle download right now. I read this back when it came out in paperback and thought it was great! It's a paranormal dystopian romance that reminded me slightly of the (very few) good parts of Kevin Costner's Waterworld movie.
Thanks, windchime! I ordered Tsunami Blue and while looking around on Amazon found another one that also looks pretty good for 99 cents: A Good and Useful Hurt.
There are around 500 free romance downloads here: http://www.heidoc.net/amazon/subscribe.php?department=ROMANC&sort=TITLE&...
