Was wondering, since we all like books, but LT don't have a feature that lets us showcase our faves, what is your fave book? Fave author?

Mine is Retief and the Warlords by Keith Laumer

followed very closly by Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa.

and finally The Hitchhicker's Trilogy by Douglas Adams

Those are mine, what about yours?

I couldn't possibly choose only one book to be my ultimate favorite as I have so many favorites! :) I tagged about forty books as 'favorite.' Fell free to view my catalog.

LOL! I know what you mean. I tagged some of mine with "best fiction ever" I ended up with 43 that had that tag!

My "desert island" book would be Wuthering Heights. As it is, I can quote whole passages. Pride and Prejudice comes in a close second. Lonesome Dove is also a favorite (Shakespeare of the old west). Bel Canto made me laugh and cry... Far Pavillions was beautifully written. George RR Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series takes me far away from this world. Yes, it certainly is hard to narrow the field!

My absolute favorite book, and this coming from reading it as a teenager, is Mine by Robert McCammon. Coming in second is anything that Julie Garwood has written.

Forgot to mention A Prayer for Owen Meaney. What a fantastic book that was! LOL so many times. Sobbed like a baby at the end. A modern classic.

I think I'm having deja vu. I thought I answered this, but there is no answer listed.

Anyway, my favorite book is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I think she did an awsome job writing a wonderful book.

My favorite author is Rachel Caine. I've really enjoyed everything I've read by her so far.

#4 bookladykm:
Pride and Prejudice is one of my many favorites, as well.

Oh boy, I could never pick just one. I do love the Hitchhiker's Guide though. Some 'desert island' books that come to mind are - Rebecca, Needful Things, Gorky Park, Pride and Prejudice, Mystic River, The Vampire Lestat, I, Claudius, Phantom and The Cabinet of Curiosities.

Bookmarque, many good choices there! Have you read Jamaica Inn also by DuMauier? Very good.

Apr 27, 2007, 8:14am (top)Message 11: Bookmarque

Yes I have read Jamaica Inn - ages ago. I remember it being very moody, dark and quite sinister. Smuggling, the moors, betrayal, murder - jam packed with the milk of human kindness. ; ) I should probably read it again.

Oooh, we were just mentioning how good Jamaica Inn is in the audio version. Yep, plenty of murder, mayhem, etc., and dark, moody, dark!

Oh I thought this thread would be about authors who are 'good at' cats! My vote would have been for T S Eliot, Baudelaire and William Carlos Williams, with the Japanese woodblock artists like Hiroshige representing the best visual artists at representing the true essence of a cat.

As for favourite book ever - pfft, that changes daily and throughout the day!

I'm in love with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's one of the best books I've ever read. I would recommend it to anyone.

My favorite novel has finally been narrowed down to Speaker For The Dead by Orson Scott Card, a fantastic book that I cannot help but see as having affected the way I look at life in a very positive way.

The Godfather. Puzo. Hands down. It's on another level. Brotherhood of the Rose (morrell) would be one of my next favs.

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. And there's a cat in the book (not merely the one in the title ;)) -Huple's cat that sleeps on Hungry Joe's face.

I have so many favorites that the term is almost meaningless, but To Kill a Mockingbird would definitely be in the top five.
