Your Name on Your Books

I will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education and I began collecting books for my classroom library this month. I am trying to decide how/where I want to put my name on the books. Do you have an recommendations on how you label your books or cute ways you've seen other teachers? I am hesitant to write my name on the front or back covers because (hopefully) I will get married and my name will change. Should I create labels? Is it ok to put them on the inside front cover? I am so indecisive!

I just retired from teaching first grade - loved it. I had a stamp made with my last name and stamped the inside cover with it. Don't worry if your name changes. You can make another stamp. Really, it doesn't matter if some books have one name and others have a different one. They are both YOUR names. And, you may be given books from retired teachers with their names, books stamped "withdrawn" from schools and libraries, books donated by students with their names, etc. The point is, collect as many as you can from as many places you can!
In our grade level we asked children to donate a new or used book to the classroom in lieu of birthday treats. Saved my waist, and got lots of interesting books. I put the child's first name, birth date and picture in the front. Kids would come back and look for their book the next year, or younger sibs would find their older brother/sister's book.

I am not a teacher, however I name my books of value if I lend them to special people. I use pencil and just write my first name on the top right of the first inside page.

So far, to my knowledge they have all been returned!!

I used to order cute labels from Current and other places until I learned how to make my own...SO easy! And you can add any kind of gaphics you want, your name or your name and school or whatever you want. Most word processing programs have a label making capability. I also make them up and give them out as gifts for new teachers, etc...

I also make my own labels with my last name and put them on the spines of my books. At the moment I co-teach, and my co-teacher does the same. It is very easy to separate our books at the end of the year!

I too put a bright yellow label on the spine of the book. More than once, my books have been accidentally returned to the library, found in the lunchroom/on a bus, etc. The label ensures that they find their way back to me. It is great for parents too!
