Yesterday I added a book "Suchet, was droben ist!" by Rudolf Kögel. Then, I clicked on the authors name and filled in some Common Knowledge.
The book though, isn't showing up as being cataloged. How can I "repair" this?
Suchet, was droben ist!
There's a touchstone to the work (just put square brackets around the name of the work). It seems to have the author R. Kögel).
ETA: I hit the recalculate title/author button on the bottom of the right-hand column of the work page and it now has the right author.
Thank you, that worked! I still don't really understand what a touchstone means... I don't understand the explanation.
Ah, jjwilson just went and fixed it while I was pedantically writing out a long explanation. If you care to know why this happened, read on. Otherwise, forget it.
Searching for Rudolf Kögel I find the work Suchet was droben ist. 4 geistliche Lieder under the author R. Kögel. Looking at the editions page for the work (found from the left-hand column of the work page) I see several 0 copy editions with the author "Kögel, R." and one 1 copy edition with the author "Kögel, Rudolf."
If I might hazard a guess, I suspect you entered the book from a source that listed R. Kögel as the author and then edited your record to complete the author name. LT does not recalculate the title and author of a work whenever a user edits a book record. For works with many owners this doesn't much matter. One user's changes are unlikely to impact the consensus work title and author. But, as in this case, when there is only one copy of the book in the work it is a problem. It is especially confusing because when you own a work you see your book's title and author at the top of the work page instead of the work title and author. So the one person likely to recognize a problem has a hard time seeing it.
Anyway, you have to give the database a little kick. This can be done by clicking "Recalculate title/author" in the advanced section at the bottom of the right-hand column of the work page. After clicking that link the work should appear on the Rudolf Kögel author page.
(And I also got scooped by the long-winded explanation.)
jolijtje, did you edit the author name at some point? I see one copy cataloged under R. Kögel and another under Rudolf Kögel. Rudolf has the CK filled in:
R. does not:
Both of them say there's one copy of the book, yours, but I only see Rudolf's in your library.
Where is the book not showing up? (Note that searches involving non-ASCII characters like ö can be unreliable.)
Good grief... I looked at this link R. Kögel given by eromsted (thank you so much for your explanation! It does make things clearer) and didn't find any works. Obviously I did something wrong by recalculating the author's name and this is what appeared: http://www.librarything.com/author/kgelr
How many authorpages can be made this way containing no books?! How can I restore a recalculation?
I entered the book manually. Maybe I did edit the autors name, can't remember that.
eromsted recalculated after I'd looked at it and seen the works there. There are hundreds of blank author pages like this on LT; don't worry about it. If someone else adds a book with the name just as R. Kogel, the book will show up there; yours is safely where it belongs.
