Remember the rules: 1) Nominate up to 2 books that you would like to read. 2) Second as many books as you like. 3) All books that receive a second will go into the voting. The web site for voting will be posted on this string when the nominations are over. You can vote for as many books as you like in the poll. If necessary, we will have an elimination poll of the books that get the most votes. Nominations for books will take place for the next week and will close at midnight, Sunday, November 13th. Have fun and enjoy. I'll nominate two from my TBR pile--The Inheritance of Loss and Pamela. I'm looking forward to your nominations. Also, be sure to check out the string for the 1001 November Group Read, Schindler's Ark. 2arukiyomiI'm going to nominate some works a little off the beaten track: A Bend in the River by V. S. Naipaul The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West and a question: are we going to read this book over a two month period (i.e. Dec and January) instead of the usual month? 3jillboneI'm going to nominate two off my current TBR pile: The Double by Jose Saramago The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte Can't wait for voting. 7DeinonychusI'll second Midnight's Children and The Inheritance of Loss I'll nominate: Dead Souls - Nikolai Gogol What Maisie Knew - Henry James 9NickeliniI've already read Return of the Soldier, but I'm speaking up to say it's one of the best books I've read in the last five years. I read it at university, and everyone in my class liked it (I think there were about 40 of us). 10arukiyomiI can second Oscar and Lucinda. If I want to join the group reads, I'm a bit limited here to what I've got in terms of nominations or seconds. No way to get books in the middle of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea... well not without difficulty or expense that I'd rather do without. 17kiwiflowaI would like to second: The Inheritance of Loss A Bend in the River The Return of the Soldier Middlesex and nominate The Bell Jar 20george1295Nominations for this group read are now closed. Thanks for participating in the group read. I hope your favorite gets selected. I failed to mention previously that the poll will close as of midnight Monday, November 21st. 24george1295OK. Try this one. I never realized reading could make you pull your hair out!! http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/541345 29george1295The poll is over and the winners are Empire of the Sun and The Inheritance of Loss. Since Empire of the Sun got the most votes, I will put up a thread for that book on December 1st. Thanks for participating in the 1001 Group Read process. If your favorite didn't win, there will be more group reads in the future. Happy reading!! | AboutThis topic is not marked as primarily about any work, author or other topic. TouchstonesWorks
