sdaine eldins arcsec etc...have me a tad suspicious of such linguistic skills!
//well, what're the options? one possibility would be to expand rules a bit and restrict usage to common nouns (if Eldins is anything, it would seem to be a proper noun from a Nintendo game) and ask people who use arcane words not readily found via a search engine to provide a link or brief definition if challenged. i do know arcsec, an abbreviation of 'arc second.' i would like us all to be playing on approximately the same game field w/ the same rules.

anirose: I've linked you to this before. You are welcome to go it any time. http://www.collinslanguage.com/scrabble-word-games/scrabble-checkerAlso this: http://www.lexic.us/mirrordrum: Don't you think all words should receive the same love? Sometimes I'm not aware of what definitions people know and do not know. Sometimes I don't know them either but know they are words. I also thought this game focused more on forming new words than on definitions. eldins: fuel (n.) sdaine: to disdaine/scorn/treat with contempt. (v.) arcsec: The inverse function of the secant; the angle that has a secant equal to a given number. (n.) d u m b e d: to make silent (v.) 826mirrordrumEdited: Dec 11, 2011, 4:10pm
//825--excellent links. thanks. and thanks so much for links to the definitions. lexic is fun! i use the scrabble help dictionary and onelook.com if i can't find something via Google but these two are new to me.
you're right, the game does help me stretch my brain as i only allow myself to look up words in order to check them and i certainly don't want to discourage that.
do i think all words should receive the same love? nope. out of a particular social context or from a linguistic or etymological viewpoint, maybe the same interest. in ordinary parlance, however, racial, ethnic or other slurs don't get a lot of my love. and i wasn't expecting to know definitions of all words, only to be able to find them if i want to look them up. you've helped with that. thanks.
and no, you don't have to provide a definition of every word you use. ;)

re. #861 on #856: I wondered about this myself just after I posted it. Before posting I googled it and saw several uses and thought it must be an alternative form of deeper, but failed to check harder (or deeper).
