What was involved when sacrificing animals and offering libations to the gods? What vessels were used? In ancient China, bronze vessels of various shapes were utilized and these were very bold in design.

Sacrifice was expressed in manifold ways to different kinds of deities. We often think of the burnt sacrifice of animals, wherein the savor of the meat ascended to the gods above, or of libations poured to the gods below, but even cakes could be 'sacrificed.'

Considering the varieties of sacrifice, the distinct gods and cults involved (including heroes as distinct from gods), and the variations in local customs, it can be a daunting subject. Some sacrifices were shared in a feast, some burnt whole.
