Not truly a 2012 readathon, but I suspect it might bleed over into January 1. See here .
Is there anyone by any chance interested in a doing a read-a-thon this weekend? I could host it - but only part-time...
I wish I could join in, Kathy, but I work weekends. I will cheer though!
I should be able to read some that weekend. I'll need downtime to relax since January is set to get crazy beginning tomorrow.
Oh my, it seems that most of the LibraryThingers are a little bit worn-out from the holidays. :) Maybe it'll work out another time.
Hey Stasia, sorry to hear that you have to work at the weekend! Hope that you'll have some time to read.
Monica and Jean, I'll start tomorrow around 8:00 CET and I'll see where the next three days will bring me. I'll keep an eye on your threads to see how your reading's going.
I will try and participate this weekend... I don't think I have much planned and I have a book club meeting on Monday I have to finish the book for too, so it will be a nice way to start off the year. Can't say I won't be multitasking and watching college basketball at the same time, though, at least on Sat, as there are def some good games planned.
I hope to finish a few books this weekend too :) I'll post reviews in my thread!
Is there a thread up yet? I'll join in, i've been reading mainly threads this week and would love to focus on a few books.
I don't see a thread. I don't know if there is going to be one. I can always start a thread. Let me know if you guys want me to start a thread.
I will not be able to join in this weekend. Sorry. Good luck to those who are focusing their efforts... finish those books!
Hey! I'm sorry. Wasn't online today. I have started a thread here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/130473. See you there!
Jim--Thanks for starting the hub thread!
Might try to join this weekend, but I'm a bit sick, so I may just stick with TV, movies and cocoa.
I am thinking of doing a read-a-thon starting tonight 4 pm EST and going through till Sunday night January 22. If there is interest I will set a thread up this afternoon and put a link in here.
There's also the weeklong ReadaThing readathon, including the "Dickens of a ReadaThing" (optional): see the blog post for all the info :-)
My schedule is up in the air right now due to changing weather conditions; however, luck be with me, I can join in. 4 pm EST is 1 PM Pacific. We shall see where I am, and what I'm doing, but I do have books on deck that are begging me to read them!
Okay. I will work on creating the thread. Thanks Jeremy for that link about the readathing in February. I needed that reminder.
I can't read much on Saturday (I don't think) but should have some time on Sunday, so I'd join.
Bloody elections.... grump. (I volunteer with the county Supervisor of Elections you see, and I'm working all day at Early Voting on Saturday.)
Majkia, hope you can join us for a little bit of reading this weekend. I hope the elections go well and maybe you will get some time to read if it is slow!
Thread is up so here is the link to the READ-A-THON JANUARY 20-22!!
I had planned a Readathon, but no one signed up, so in cancelled it.
#28 Hmmm. Never saw a thing on it. Perhaps that explains things. If I didn't see it, others might not have either.
I think it works best if an announcement for a read-a-thon is made a week or so in advance so there is lots of chances for folks to see the announcement and can consider signing up. I've noticed it takes a while for the Read-A-Thons to fill in... MrsSmith88, you may want to try again sometime.
I didn't see it either. I know there is a week long readathing happening this week/weekend. So I will be participating in that this weekend.
Good suggestion Maggie, I just had some free time and it was completely last minute. That Readathon sounds wonderful.
Well I am taking a long weekend and was thinking of hosting a read-a-thon. I would have it start Wednesday night 2/29. It would run till Sunday evening (3/4).
Post if you are interested. I will create a thread if there is interest and maybe if there isn't interest.
Eeek! I doubt I'll have time to any serious reading this weekend. But, I might swing by and read a comic or something before bed one of the nights.
I will too. Suggest you post a thread for this and post the link here?
Me too, I won't get a ton done, but I would check in when could. Sounds god to me.
Okay. I will post a thread then I will come back here and add the link. You can join in whenever you can.
Hi Monica! What time exactly do you start... or rather: if you say "Wednesday evening" are you talking about EST?
Yes I am talking EST.
The Thread is now posted. Just click here
Start time is 6 pm EST but anyone is welcome to start earlier if they would like to. I know if I am able to start earlier I will.
Maybe Mother's Day weekend isn't the perfect time for a readathon . . . but then again, a lot of LT moms will probably be receiving books! I finished semester grading today and would love to host a readathon to celebrate the beginning of summer break. I'd like to start Friday (May 11) at 10:00 a.m. EDT and keep things going until Monday morning, 10:00 a.m.
Whose in? If there's enough interest to make it go, I'll post a sign-up thread tomorrow.
I'll be reading (because I do every day) but not as much as the last time. I will out Saturday morning and most of the day Sunday,
I think I can weigh in for part of the time. I'll be happy to do some concentrated reading! And it is the beginning of a couple of weeks of vacation for me so I think I should be able to postpone all the other To Do List items...
I'll certainly pop in when available, Cariola. I need a readathon for the week of the 21st too as my son will be at camp and I'll be missing him so I need to keep busy.
50) Glad to oblige! I'm on summer break and will enjoy getting some quality pleasure reading done instead of student essays. I'm working on the official thread and will have it up in about 10 minutes. I'll add everyone here as participants.
Here's the link to join the May 11-14 Drop-In Read-a-Thon. Everyone is welcome to stop by for whatever amount of time feels comfortable.
Sorry I missed the read a thon. I was busy that weekend so I didn't get much reading done. I will look forward to the next one.
I haven't seen any read-a-thons lately. Are they over? Just wondering.
I did one about a month ago, but I hadn't seen anything posted for months before and nothing since.
They're not really over. . . people just do them when they want/can. My schedule has been very unpredictable and busy lately, so hosting/solid reading time hasn't been seen more than a few hours in advance, if that. Otherwise I would've done a couple by now. I'm hoping things will settle soon-ish. If/when they do, I will host some more. But feel free to post one and I will join in for the bits and pieces that I can :)
Would anyone be interested in one on the 4th of July? I'm free starting at noon on the 3rd til noon on the 5th, it could be a casual summer holiday thon.
I could participate for at least an hour or two, more if my boss decides we'll be closed (*fingers crossed). And even more if I end up w/o plans. I never know what I'm doing that day until just before--it's very silly.
I could participate on the 4th. I'll be traveling so I know I'll have some uninterrupted reading time on the plane.
As of now I have no plans for those holiday days so yes, I'd love to do a read-a-thon! Woo hoo! Love those DNBR days.
Alright, I'll set up a thread in a couple of days and post a link. :D Happy happy happy!!!
Cool, I could jump in, too. No idea what I'm up to, but the odds are def. in favor of a DNBR day.
I could participate on the 4th. I am off starting the 3rd at about 4 pm until Monday. I could participate a few hours.
I want to host one but I know I don't have the time to commit to hosting one this year.
I just posted the thread for the 4th 'Thon here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/139076
Hope to see you all there!
Principal question: I have to work on weekends a lot at the moment, but as a concession Wednesday is my day off. Would there anyone be interested in readathons from Tuesday to Wednesday?
There will be a week-long Readathing starting at noon EDT tomorrow . . . but I could post in both places.
Yes, I work most weekends and usually have off a half day on Tuesdays and all day on Wednesdays. I'd always be up for a mid-week 'thon!
Looking forward to the Readathing tomorrow, hoping to finish up some library books so I can tackle another round of ones I already own. :)
Good to know! I'm not sure if I can already host a readathon next week, but I'll decide at the weekend and I'll let you know.
I usually work during the week and am off on the weekends. I would join but not get much reading done. If you do one I will do my best to join in.
I won't have time this week, I am sorry! I won't be home all day. But there will be a Tuesday/Wednesday-readathon soon!
Cool beans! I usually have Wednesdays off as well and would most likely be able to partake in any read-a-thons on that day :)
#76: I am thinking of doing one while I am off on break. Not this week, but the week after, I think.
I'd be happy to host one on Labor Day weekend, as long as that's not the day my expat landlord chooses for his visitation (in which case I shall be in cleaning frenzy...). He is coming sometime btwn Aug 30 and Sept 10, so...
I could participate over Labor Day weekend, for sure, but only a maybe for the weekend just before it. Another garage sale in my community! Work, that is! but nice to get the money!
Okay. I can try to participate in a few of them. I may try to host one but I have been busy this year so I haven't had the time.
I'm in for whenever! My schedule is open, so chances are I'll be available whenever the next one is held.
oh, now that's a good idea! I hope someone has the energy to step up........
Suggestion for a Labor Day Weekend readathon: Why not have rolling hosts, so it's not as much of a burden? I'd be willing to host either Friday or Sunday -- does anyone else want to step in to take on one of the other days? We could start Friday at noon, and have the host "work" until noon the following day?
I like that idea. I don't know if I can commit to hosting though.
I just wouldn't be much of a host, I'm afraid, as I have to do a major household cleanup...
I cannot help with the Labor Day readathon since I have to work the weekend, Suz. Sorry.
Depending on what my tax accountant says this afternoon (as in, If I am Finished), I perhaps could host on Saturday. I don't think I can do multiple days, but one day would be good! Regardless of who is or is not the host I will be participating at least some of the long weekend. I am even hoping I could start on Friday... lots of reading seems like such a good idea!
Well, I'll volunteer to host Friday, so if Maggie can do Saturday, we would need people for Sunday or Monday?
I could do Sunday, would just have to work out when that would actually be in my time zone.
Cool beans! In that case, I'll set up a thread now, with rolling hosts. If Maggie can't pitch in on Saturday, maybe Kerry and I between us can manage.
I finished talking with the taxing lady and I don't have too much more to accomplish so Saturday is looking good for me! Hoping and I can do the needed research tomorrow and Friday.

Cariola, why don't you and Maggie post what your ideal hours would be? I tend to be a night hawk, so if I can tackle Friday noon until the wee hours on Saturday morning, I could hand off to someone else, and maybe pick up the last few hours on Monday, i.e. 6 p.m. until midnight perhaps?
Wow great to see that we found some hosts. I was thinking of offering to host but I was not sure if I would have the time. I have a lot of cleaning to do and would like to take this weekend to do it (which probably won't happen). If you need help with hosting let me know I can try to fill in (just not the wee hours) I am usually up early but tend to go to sleep by 9 or 10 pm at night. Going to the thread now to sign up!!
Maggie, are you an early riser? I'm not particularly, but I expect I'll be up until at least midnight.
Yes, I am an early riser but as I am on the west coast of the USA it means it is late in the earth's time. So normally, I get up at about 5 pm Seattle time, which is 8 am Eastern USA time, and 1 pm in London, and 2 pm in Paris.
I am definitely OK for Saturday. I just found out last evening that I do indeed have Friday off.... and so I can get the essential stuff done and can start dedicating myself to reading on Saturday! Woo hoo!
OK, Maggie, if you're good to go, that's fine. If you want a break later in the day of in the late evening, just let me know.
Suzanne, could you post a link to the Labor Day readathon thread, please?
The Great Labor/Labour Day Readathon...
Hi! If there are any people interested, I would host a relaxed readathon from Friday, 3 or 4 p.m. to Saturday 10 p.m. (CET) this weekend. I don't have much time on Sunday because of some family business. But if someone volunteers as a second host, the readathon could be prolonged to Sunday.
I will open a thread today or tomorrow morning - you are all invited to join!
I'm free on Friday and Saturday and would be happy to join you! :)
I should be able to read from Friday through most of Saturday, but then, I need to attend to other RL stuff. Darn it! But sign me up for the half-Read-A-Thon, I guess.
Hello to everybody! I'm so glad that you have time this weekend!
I prepared the thread - here's the link: http://www.librarything.com/topic/143700
I'm pondering a year-end Readathon for the weekend, but continuing into Monday for those who have the day off and are trying to wrap up their 12 in 12 challenges (like, ahem, yours truly...)
Anyone interested? Reluctant to launch another thread if there are no takers. I'll host, though if anyone wants to share hosting duties, that would also be great.
I'd be interested, I have a small pile of books I'd love to finish before the year ends.
Hello! I'd love to join you for the weekend! I don't know yet, if I'll have to work on Monday, but it would only be four or five hours. So, I would just "sign out" for that time and would re-join you later - if that's ok with you.
I would be up for joining in. There is a ReadaThing going on right now. Here is a Link to the RAT
I'll happily join in - if not before, I shall probably be having a quiet evening on my own on New Year's Eve so will be glad to have some reading company then.
OK, will get a thread up for this sometime tonight, and link to it here!
Here's the link: http://www.librarything.com/topic/146701#
I'll be back on Friday to set up memes, etc. etc.
I hope to join you. We go back to London on Friday and are likely to be in on NYE as a problem has developed with our normal celebration arrangements, I will need a distraction from brooding on the grimness of this year (especially as I don't have high hopes for 2013). And maybe I can even finish another book or two.
Sooo . . . . Spring Break starts for me next weekend. Would anyone be up for Read-a-thon over the weekend or during the following week? I haven't seen one posted here for quite awhile.
I would be interested in participating in a read-a-thon. I need a push to do some more reading. I am surprised that there hasn't been a read a thon posted yet either.
I'm going on vacation and will be reading. . . but I won't have my computer with me, so I can only join in spirit.
Here's the 2013 read-a-thon thread; you might want to post this over there too :)
I've only read a few books this year (that aren't GN's or audios, that is) and could use an excuse to just sit down and read for a bit. I'm not working Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, so it'd be a bit sporadic, but I'd still participate!
Sounds good to me, I've way over structured my reading this month and don't know how I'll get to it all.
