I just received my preordered copy of British Battleships, 1919-1945 by R.A. Burt from the Naval Institute Press.

This title may likely be the best illustrated book on World War II naval ships in 2012. The black and white photographs of various British battleships (and some aircraft carriers) are incredible.

In my view, the best illustrated book of World War II naval ships for 2009-2010 is French Battleships by John Jordan and for 2011 is The Littorio Class: Italy's Last and Largest Battleships 1937-1948 by Erminio Bagnasco.

This three volume reference set belongs in every library of World War II navy books. Although the titles are expensive, they are likely to retain or increase in value over time.
