A few days ago I noticed to my delight that the Empires of Early Latin America and Empires of the Ancient Near East had appeared for sale on the website. I even double checked the flag at the top of the page because these aren't usually available in Australia, but yep, all was good! Unfortunately I didn't have the money on the day and now they're gone!
Does this sound like it was just a glitch? I'm hoping it was an accidental reveal of their availability in the Spring Sale, but maybe I'm just being wishful.
I don't understand why these sets can be available to American members but not Australian members. It's very frustrating!
I'm in the US and don't find these sets available to me as a member either. The only volumes I do see in this series is The Phoenicians and The Celts.
Hmmm...they were available to the US when I looked a while ago, though not available in Australia at that time. I guess it was just a glitch...a frustrating one that got my hopes up!
>1 thesleepyreader: If book are currently not available on the FS site is does not necessarily mean that they are out of print. I have been interested in the Empires of the Ancient Near East myself in the past, and I've recognized that during the last three years they have been appeared and disappeared form the FS site several times.
In addition you often find a set still shrink wrapped and in mint conditions on ABEbooks at an even higher discount.
For example Ardis Book in the UK offers a shrink wrapped set for 39 GBP.
I don't think they generally appear as available here in the UK either, though they've been regulars down the years as new member offers and they featured in last year's Spring Sale, which was where I acquired my sets. The seven books were offered free on purchase of any four titles.
You may indeed be right that they're lined up for a sale appearance, otherwise an email to the FS might at least bring you an offer to buy them at a price. Do you remember what the asking price was when you saw them at the site - nothing particularly favourable, I guess?
