When I look at the translation page of my profile page there is that note in brackets after LibraryThing:
LibraryThing - Note: Translate as "LibraryThing in YOUR_LANGUAGE_NAME"
LibraryThing - Note: Translate as "LibraryThing in YOUR_LANGUAGE_NAME"

I assume it means, for example, that he string should be translated as:
LibraryThing på svenska
LibraryThing auf Deutsch
LibraryThing en Français
et cetera, depending on what your language is....
(Which would mean that it is mistranslated in Swedish.)
I don't know where the string is used, though.

I believe that this means that you need to put a name for LibraryThing in your language.
Not to translate the whole string "LibraryThing in YOUR_LANGUAGE_NAME" but just a one word which is the translation of the string LibraryThing. If it will be the same (I kept it the same in Bulgarian for various reasons, then the translation string should be "LibraryThing Note: Translate as "LibraryThing in YOUR_LANGUAGE_NAME""
Notes are helps to explain what this will be...

But in that case the note should have read "The name of LibraryThing in your language." At the very least, using the variable YOUR_LANGUAGE_NAME is very misleading. Are we even allowed to change the name of the site in our translations? And why should we do it only here and not everywhere? That makes no sense.

Yeah, substitute the name of your language—LibraryThing in English, or LibraryThing en Français, etc.

I'm sorry if I'm a bit thick, but do you actually mean that we should translate the word LibraryThing?

No. Read my #2. The string is "LibraryThing" in English, but in the other languages it should be translated as "LibraryThing in XXXXXXXXXXX" where XXXXXXXXXXX is the name of the language in question. So in Swedish it should be "LibraryThing på svenska", in Russian (for example) "LibraryThing на русском языке", in Spanish "LibraryThing en español" etc.
