This is an amazing news story. I would love to read more about this find. Please comment if you have any insight into this period or the practice of Viking worship.
The recent Hardcore History podcast episode entitled "Thor's Angels" is worth recommending on this subject. Maybe it's just the archaeological zeal shining through, but sometimes when reading articles like the above I get the sense they're romanticising the pagan Norse religion. The germanic christianity they mention as having violently stamped out pagan traditions didn't exactly lack shared roots with Norse paganism. Their Jesus was basically a syncretized Norse warrior god. So perhaps the more acurate narrative would be to say one violent religion supplanted another violent religion.
