How to link a work in one language (translation) to the original work?Welcome to LibraryThing!Join LibraryThing to post. I have several translations from English and German and I wonder, how one can link the titles to the works in original language? For example, I see that Dostoyevsky's "Belye nochi" in Russian is linked to the "White Nights" work page in English, displaying its various editions. I'd like to link Russian editions to their original English works in a similar way. I learned how to combine authors, but cannot seem to find how to do the same with works. Thank you. 2BarkingMattOn any author page you will find a "Combine/separate works" link - in the right hand column. Mostly they will be in latin alphabet, simply because we happen to be the majority of users here. But, anyway, click the name showing just below that and you will get the options to combine any works by that author. (And your efforts will be much appreciated by those of us unable to read Cyrillic script.) Good luck, good hunting ;-) 3EugeneShubinThank you, I think I finally got hold of it ) It's just some of the works I have entered don't show on the author's page, despite the same author link. Either it takes time, or I should provide more detailed information about the book (important characters, places) for the system to offer to combine it. 4eromsted>3 The Common Knowledge section has nothing to do with the combination system. I could make a some educated guesses about why your works are not showing on the author page, but it would be best if you could post an example. The next time you have a problem post to the Combiners! group. Be sure to include the work URL in your post. Someone will help you figure it out. 5EugeneShubin>4 Thanks, let me try a few more things and I'll post in the Combiners group, if the issues will still persist. 6jjmcgaffeyIt may also be time - a lot of stuff is cached on LT, for speed of display. I'd wait 24 hours and see if they show up. But it's also perfectly possible that there's weirdness there, and Combiners! is the best place to get that ironed out. | AboutThis topic is not marked as primarily about any work, author or other topic.
