There are many different series which I have read or continue to read and sometimes it's hard to know if I accidentally skipped a book in a series or if something new came out and I didn't know about it. In my Library data, I can easily see a list of all the books I have which are in a series but what I would really like to see is a list of serial books which I do NOT have in my library.

This list would look at every series for which I already have at least one book, then it would list all of the books which are in those series but which are NOT in my library. In this way, I could quickly and easily find out what I am missing from every series I own.

Actually, this feature already exists! If you go to your profile, click on "statistics/memes" (at the top, just under the tabs), then click on "series" under Common Knowledge in the gray box on the left, you will get to your series page (probably the one you reference above, but I didn't want to assume). At the top of that page, right under "Series in your library," you should see "My books | All books" -- click on "All books" and you will have a list of all of the series for which you own at least one book. The books you have cataloged will be marked with checkmarks, the ones not in your catalog will be marked with black bullet points.

If you just want to look at a single series it may be easier to go to the work page of a book you have in the series and click on the series title.

Unfortunately, an idea that works great in theory tends to not work that well in practice for me. So many series have omnibuses (or I have omnibuses and not individual works), or people add short stories to them, or whole other works that contain a short story that's set in the same universe, or they add the foreign versions that don't have US equivalents because they broke a single novel into multiple parts, etc.

Bleh.

While it's not 'on-site', I've found fictfact.com to be quite useful for keeping track of upcoming/continuing series and for getting reading order...

I just found a link to fictfact.com on another post, it is something I have been manually tracking for quite a while, so I came here to request this feature for LT (so that I don't have to create yet another account on yet another site, and maintain lists of series I read etc.) when I found this post.

I think the current system can work with some improvement/changes, something like:

1. A separate page for 'Missing in Series', listing only the books we don't have in the series.
2. Add an option to select, which series would show up in that list (sometime same books are in multiple series, 'by chronological', 'by publication' etc., also, user may not want to continue all series.)
3. Remove omnibus and collections from that list (if some people want them to be included too, maybe there can be an option for this)

Additional features, that would also prove useful.
4. Ability to ignore selected books from selected series (e.g. Let's say I am reading Wheel of Time, and I want to know about new books, but I don't care about a specific prequel, so I ignore that book, but let it show me any other book that is added in the series. Or for some series by multiple authors, I can ignore a specific book by specific author that I don't care about etc.)
5. Show 'Missing in Series' in user's homepage (a widget like all others, that could be enabled/disabled by everyone).

That's all I can think of right now.

Nice feature. Only my stats has at least it appears a bug:
Series stats - Pinkeltje, I've got 26/30 in that series, and it's showing only 1...

Same issue with Dick Bruna Kinderboeken.
on the All Books page it also shows some series as being huge, and others (Pinkeltje, Bruna) as containing just a few books.
So that view is perhaps a starting point, but does not work as needed atm.

That's actually a languages site thingie - if the series is on the English site, all works as a charm. If it is not... you get weird results as the ones you are seeing.

10: ?

The Pinkeltjes are on the dutch site. The series CK data is entered on the dutch site only. I'm on the dutch site now.

There are strange things happening on Series anyway. On my other catalog (this one's for my daughter) it's not showing books that are definitely in my library, and clearly in the series, but there's no checkmark on them.

http://www.librarything.com/profile/JerryMmm/stats/series - I have Maskerade, I have The colour of magic. I have a lot more.

I see a lot of checkmarks in Terry Pratchett - Maskerade and The Colour of Magic included. Was the private thing hiding it, and now you see them too?
