Portland is well known for its array of coffee shops and parks. Where are some places you recommend to sit down and turn some pages?

Haven coffeeshop on SE Division and 35th.

I find it difficult to find a good coffeeshop where the music isn't blaring and obnoxious. What's up with that?

I guess Barista's have to assert their musical tastes to make the place "trendy" or what not. I've found that the Pharmacy downtown on NW 21st usually isn't too loud and its opened all hours of the night.

Plus...the coffee is good.

There are some good spots to read listed on this thread...

I still go for Alberta Street Tea House (formerly Tea Te Chai or Tea Chai Te or whatever!) on about 20th and Alberta. Music not too loud, comfy couches, tables & chairs...

I like Kenilworth Park for sitting and reading. It's pretty close to my home and it's got a nice variety of shaded and sunny areas. I mean, for those rare days that the sun shines in Portland.
