You swing open a crystal door and enter a huge room with walls and floors of crystal. The teacher's desk in front and the students' desks are all made out of a beautiful sapphire. The tall glass windows are covered by a translucent royal blue curtain that glittered when it caught the light. In contrast to the usual blackboard, there is a white board at the front of the class that could be interacted with using a wand. There is a big wooden cupboard in the corner behind the teacher's desk. Hanging above is a sparkling crystal chandelier.

Welcome to my class, everyone! If you would like to join, please send me a message and make it private. Here are the list of students so far!

WHAT WE COVERED
1. Boggarts
2. Kappas

And the rules for my class!

RULES
1. Be polite and nice. If not, I'll take away points.
2. No casting spells or bringing in magical creatures without my permission. I'll take away points depending on how dangerous the spell or creature is.
3. I have the right to take away or give points as the Headmistress or I see fit.
Will add more later!

Well, I hope all of you enjoy your time in my class! :D

Christmas Entry
You approach the crystal door to find a wreath on the door. You enter the classroom and discover it's been decorated for the month of Christmas. Various plants including holly and mistletoe are attached to the ceilings and walls. There is a big Christmas tree in the corner, decorated beautifully with blue and silver ornaments and a shining crystal star at the top. Bells and other decorations also adorned the classroom. The effect was elaborate yet gorgeous.

Is there a syllabus?

3StarlightLily
Aug 10, 2012, 5:14am

Hm...well, I haven't planned anything specific but I can tell you that we'll definitely be covering Patronuses, werewolves, vampires, Inferi...those kind of things.

4Betty30554
Aug 10, 2012, 8:24am

I'll give it a try. No term papers, I hope.

5StarlightLily
Aug 10, 2012, 9:43am

OK, then. Betty, you were supposed to send me a private message to join, but I'll let it slide this time. :)

6StarlightLily
Aug 10, 2012, 9:44am

Maybe a few more students and we'll start.

7StarlightLily
Aug 10, 2012, 9:37pm

OK, now that we have enough students, we can start!

(That does not mean I'm not accepting any more students. The class is always open to others!)
(Hopefully I can keep this one active...*smiles ruefully*)
(I'll probably follow most of what Professor Lupin taught, since it seems like he taught the most.)

I'm sorry. Still new to LT somewhat. Is this a private message or do I go to your home page to leave one?

Aug 10, 2012, 10:27pm

You were supposed to go here:

http://www.librarything.com/profile/StarlightLily

And then leave a comment there, checking the box 'make private'. But no worries, I added you to the list already. Anyway, good to teach you first, because other Professors might ask to leave a private comment to join. Besides, for assignments, you would have to send a private comment anyway. ^_^

Thank you. I really do appreciate the direction.

*raises Hand*

How do you know you are facing a Boggart and not the real thing, whatever it is? In the real world, I mean, not in controlled classroom conditions? You might think you are confronted by a real dementor, for instance.

13katagirl
Aug 13, 2012, 11:18pm

That was unclear to me too, but after I figure it out, I think I am ready for the assignment!i have been studying!

It has been a few days!

14StarlightLily
Edited: Aug 14, 2012, 4:41am

OK, I deleted the lesson. Now, your assignment. Please send it back to me in a private comment!

1. What is a Boggart?
2. What charm combats a Boggart?
3. What does the charm require?
4. What is the correct way to perform the charm?
5. Which places are Boggarts particularly fond of inhabiting?

15StarlightLily
Aug 14, 2012, 4:41am

Beatles, whoops, I'm so sorry, have you copied down the lesson yet?

16katagirl
Aug 14, 2012, 11:08am

How long do we have to complete the assignment? Are points taken away if it isnt turned in?

Professor, I must've entered Class late because I wasn't even at my desk yet. I never saw your assignment.

OK, then, you and Danielle don't need to do the assignment. Oh, yes, forgot to mention: Deadline for the assignment is one week from yesterday.

10 points to Gryffindor (katagirl)

Professor, you didn't answer my question...

21StarlightLily
Aug 17, 2012, 1:48am

Oh, right, sorry, Catreona. Like I said in the lesson, a Boggart is weaker than the thing it transforms into. So for example, if it transforms into a Dementor, you might feel less hope, but you probably won't be drained of all hope.

22katagirl
Aug 18, 2012, 7:12pm

Are we going to have a new lesson?

23StarlightLily
Aug 18, 2012, 9:52pm

Hmm...not yet, katagirl. There are still people who haven't sent in their assignment yet and the deadline is on 21th August in my time zone. They'll lose points if they don't hand it in on time.

Gah, I forgot!!! You know the song 'Forget You' by Cee Lo Green? In real life, I just sang it like this, "Forgetful, and forgetful~" Lolz.

Anyway, the questions! :D

1. Describe the Kappa's appearance.
2. What is the source of the Kappa's strength?
3. Where do Kappas live?
4. How can a person confronted with a Kappa protect him/herself?
5. What/How will the Kappa do/react if a cucumber inscribed with a person's name is thrown at it?

That's it! :) Deadline is next week! 2 points for each question you get right, so 10 points if you hand in a perfect assignment! 10 points will be taken away if you don't hand it in on time! Please hand it in by posting a private comment on my page. Good luck! ;)

Lesson 3, Defense Against the Dark Arts

Disarming Charm

The Disarming Charm is a defensive charm which forced the victim to release whatever they were holding at the time, usually against his or her will. It is common to see this spell used in duels, to make an opponent release their wand.

The incantation for the Disarming Charm is, "Expelliarmus," with the hand movement of pointing one's wand at the target.

It is not known precisely who created the Disarming Charm, though it is known that it was not very popular until 1379, when Elizabeth Smudgling - the most likely inventor in the opinion of Miranda Goshawk - used it in a duelling contest in Dartmoor.

The Disarming Charm always appears as a jet of red light; indeed, this is one of the things that makes it recognisable before the effects of the charm are seen.

The Disarming Charm causes whatever an opponent is holding at the time - usually a wand - to fly high out of their reach; however, more enthusiastic casts can result in the victim of the charm being knocked unconscious in a similar manner to the Stunning Spell. If done too weakly, however, it will merely blow them back a few paces, or make their hair stand on end.

This information was taken from Harry Potter Wiki.

I'll delete the lesson and give the questions in one week!
