Hello! I've been very back and forth on whether or not to see SWatH. I'm not a huge fan of KStew. . . . obvs you liked it tho. Does she do better in this than her other recent stuff? 3MickyFineOk, will respond to your last post on the previous thread in just a sec, but yay for liking Snow White and the Huntsman! I went and saw that one in theatres and enjoyed it quite a lot. As for your question, Katie, I'm not the best person to answer that because I've watched and enjoyed all the Twilight films so I'm a little biased. Now, back to getting lost in the woods, can we just not go into the woods at all. Unless Chris Hemsworth is coming with us. He's pretty handy with an axe. Plus he carries an entire gun show. ;) Saves us all from cannibalism. My weekend was good. And busy. I had stuff to do at church, a bachelorette, a wedding shower, and theatre tickets. And I also managed to get entirely caught up on Doctor Who. It was a good weekend. And speaking of the Doctor, I'm not telling you whether or not those ladies are vampires. That would be spoilers. :P Aww, do I have to stalk Stephen? Can't it be Katie's turn? 4katelisimspoilers *snorks at DW inside joke* Is stalking Stephen a lot of work? If it is, I'll be against it because of my laziness. If not, I guess I could take a turn. As long as I can do funny things. . . like write silly messages on windows. The squirrels have stolen your spoons. 5ApeDon't worry, stalking me isn't a lot of work, I rarely leave my house and when I do, I drive really slow and coast a lot down big hills to save gas. Nope, I'm really easy to stalk, I promise. Snow White and the Huntsmen looks really good, actually. I'm glad you liked it. :) 6MickyFine>4 Oh yay! There's someone here to appreciate my references. :) >5 Driving slowly only helpful if the person stalking you also drives. Which I don't. :P 7katelisimUhhh. . . driving slowly is one of the hardest things for me to do. Is there a lot of traffic there? Will I be able to lap you and not lose you? 8ApeMicky: My car is broken down anyway, I'll start riding a bike. I'm not even 10 miles outside of 'town,' so I'm sure it'll be fine... :P Katie: I live on roller-coaster-esque back roads, some unpaved and pot-holed, so driving slow is critical sometimes... 11ApeThere is a math formula you can use to figure it out, but all you really need to know is 'miles are better than kilometres.' :P 12katelisim5,280 ft. . . no idea in kilometers. Though, I believe, 5k is a little over 3 miles. Feeling a bit too lazy to look up the conversion, lol. 14saraslibrary#2: Hi Kate! :) I honestly couldn't tell you whether you should see Snow White or not based on Kristen Stewart alone. If you you really don't like her, then yeah, I'd probably say don't watch it, just to play it safe. But really, it was a pretty good movie. I didn't have any complaints, except maybe at the end when everything was happily-ever-after. But I think that's just me being a grouch. #3: Glad you liked Snow White, too. :) And I'm with you on Kristen Stewart. I've only really seen her in the Twilight movies (maybe a couple other movies I can't remember right at this second), which is kind of a good/bad thing, because she'll always be twitchy ol' Bella to me. Not get lost in the woods? But what's the point in getting lost if it's not in the woods? (grumbles) I suppose if we must have a tour guide, then Chris Hemsworth'll do. But just so you know, I will still eat him if I get hungry, so don't get too attached. :P That sounds like a seriously busy weekend. I can't even remember what I did these past couple days (or if I even left the house), so you get the Miss Socialite award. lol @ #4. That actually made sense, stupid squirrels. #5: Yep, Snow White and the Huntsman was good. I guess you'll have to be the one to watch it next then, since Kate might not, and tell her how fabulous Kristen was in it (not that she'll believe you, of course ;). Stalking is still a lot of work, even if it's you, Stephen. Maybe leave Kate some snacks on your porch or something. And let her catch some zzz's sometime in the afternoon. Remember: you must be nice to your stalkers, or we'll stop stalking you. :P #6: You could always learn how to break into his car and hide in his back seat. Or run really, really fast. #7: Oh dear. Looks like Stephen'll be stalking himself. Again. #8: Ew. 10 miles? Even on my best day, I don't think I could walk 10. Maybe you could hitchhike, Micky? I'm sure whoever picks you up will have no problem being a co-stalker. ;) Btw, sorry to hear about your car, Stephen. #9: Ditto. Or buy a plane. #10-13: Noooo! No math equations on my thread. 1 mile = really, REALLy far. And yes, that's in kilometers. :P 15katelisimMATH MATH MATH MATH MATH MATH! I'm sure I'll eventually see SWatH. . . It's just a question of Redbox or wait for tv (which is the current winner). Unless someone I know buys it, then borrowing could occur. Meh. I'll prolly just be watching Halloween/horror movies the next couple months anyway *shrug 16saraslibraryOk, the only math allowed on this thread revolves around this: ![]() How's that? :) And I'll even give Micky the mile/kilometer conversion since I'm oh-so-nice (phbbt) and am at work, so I can actually look at 1 mile = 1.60934 kilometer I'm with Stephen. Miles are better than kilometers. :P #15: That's the same way I am about movies. If it's not free, I'm not watching it. Well, unless I have a few extra bucks and can find a super cheap copy of a movie I want. But usually I just check movies out from work. And it's never too early to start on the Halloween movies, I say! :) Any themes or series you're planning on going through? And speaking of holidays, the weird thing at work today is that people are already putting Christmas items on hold. Sheesh, people, really? Slooow down. One holiday at a time. 17MickyFineBut guys, kilometers are so much easier to understand. 1 kilometer is 1000 meters. 1 meter is 100 centimeters. I could go further down, but that just gets complicated. But it's a system based on units of 10. So much easier math than wacky miles, yards, and feet. :P I promise I'm being downright hermity this weekend, Sara. Mostly because I'm conserving energy for all the bridesmaid duties I'll have next week. As for people putting Christmas stuff on hold, the Women's network had an entire week where they played Christmas movies in July. And I won't even get into when Costco starts putting out Christmas stuff. 19katelisim#16: Not much of a plan. I usually watch Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus every year, kind of a tradition from when I was really young. Other than that, I try to find a good mix of horror and spooky humor, but I haven't decided on those yet. Any suggestions? 20saraslibrary#17: Ok, I will agree anything by 10's is easier to count. But then I'd have to learn my measurements all over again, and well, that's just not going to happen. Old dogs, new tricks--that sort of thing. Yay for being hermity! I pride myself on doing that every day as much as possible. ;) Wait, another wedding? Don't people realize the major cause of divorce is marriage? When will they learn? Just kidding. Hope you have fun! And elbow a bridesmaid in the eye trying to steal the bouquet for me, will ya? :) How's that for cheery? I never understood that whole Christmas in July thing. They do that here, too (well, I'm not sure about the Women's network, 'cause I'm poor and don't have cable), but I refuse to participate. Yeah, I'm sure that'll put a whole stop to it. ;) As for Costco, I was just in there this past week and didn't notice anything Christmas-y. But then, I wasn't really looking around. But it's kind of interesting that you bring up Costco. I didn't know Canada had Costco up there, because there was this whole hoopla a month or so ago in my state with Canadians driving down to shop at our Costcos (to avoid taxes or something) and some Washingtonians getting all bent out of shape they were stealing our parking places. Seriously. :D Americans are allergic to walking, I guess. #18: (waves back @ Stasia) Howdy! :) #19: Ooh, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a good one (for both Halloween and Christmas, imo). It's been forever since I've seen Hocus Pocus, so I'll have to put a hold on that one. Thanks! :) Even though I love horror movies, I'm an absolute failure at recommending them. But funny and spooky . . . hmm, I don't know. Gremlins? I usually watch that one around Christmas while everyone else is doing the It's a Wonderful Life. The Feast series is more gore humor, but I still get a chuckle out of them. People are always recommending the Evil Dead series to me, but I think I tried watching it once and meh. Critters? I can't remember if that one's funny or not. I guess the older the movies gets, the funnier it is (to laugh at, I mean). Dracula: Dead and Loving It. The Scary Movie series (though I've only seen bits and pieces of those, never an entire movie). Um... let me go dig around in my movies.... memory's fuzzy. 21katelisimHaha, I meant more between horror and humor. . . but I do like when the mix. I love the Evil Dead series (the third, Army of Darkness) is my fave. I also own Dracula Dead and Loving It. Other funny/horror movies I own are Idle Hands, Shaun of the Dead, and Fido. Probably more, but that's what I can think of right now. I think I need to find some good straight up horror movies. I don't mind the gore movies, but they're not really scary. I just watched Cabin in the Woods and loved it. I'm rubbish at recommending horror movies too. . . but that's because I like bad movies, which there are a lot of in this genre *shrug 22saraslibraryIdle Hands--yes, that's another one I was thinking of along the funny/horror line. And definitely Fido. Have you watched Trick 'r Treat? That's very suitable for Halloween, obviously by the title. And, of course, the Halloween series. Is that what you were thinking for straight-up horror? The slasher stuff? Because just about everything from the 80's will do then. :) And I totally agree--just about everything horror-wise is bad (movies, books, whatever). I can't think of any movies that flat-out scared me, but there are still some memorable ones that gave me the heaves (like The Human Centipede, of course--lovely). Dead Girl's not full-out horror (they never really call the girl in the movie a zombie, but that's basically what she is), but I'd definitely recommend that one if you're wanting something that'll haunt you awhile. Teeth...The Collector...Frontier(s)...oh, there are oodles. Which reminds me of Hannibal. Any of the Silence of the Lambs movies are good for a Halloween freakout. Omg, now all I want to do is stay up all night and watch horror movies, then call in sick tomorrow and do it again! :D Btw, thanks for recommending Cabin in the Woods! :) I'm so behind on my recent horror flicks. Maybe Halloween is what I need to catch up. 23katelisimOh, I grew up on 80s horror movies. . . my fave movie when I was 6 was Nightmare on Elm Street XD I don't think I've seen Dead Girl, The Collector, or Frontier(s). I did see Human Centipede and Teeth. Oh dear. Those. I can't remember if I saw Trick 'r Treat or not. . . I know I've at least seen something with a similar title, but it might've just been Trick Or Treat. . . hmmmmm. But yea, I haven't been 'scared' by a movie since I was very very young. A little creeped out, sure, or disgusted, but not scared. Have you seen El Orfanato (The Orphanage)? That is a fantastic ghost movie that I might need to watch again soon. I just watched Detention, thinking it would be a crappy slasher movie. . . but it's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Must buy it. Must watch ten thousand times. 24MickyFineYup, two weddings in two months in my close circle. Busy busy busy. And I'm not likely to elbow either of the two other bridesmaids as I like both of them and one of them is my sister-in-law. And we do have Costco up here. Have for years (since I was like 8, so um, I'm lousy at math gimme a sec, at least 17 years or so). But yeah, the Yanks get all cranked about cross-border shoppers on long weekends. You guys have much more extreme sales, and way more outlet stores than we do up here, so if you live close to the border it's really easy to do. I however, live several hours away from the nearest border (and that's with Montana), so I'm not a culprit. And all of this talk of horror movies makes me wonder, have either of you seen the remake of Fright Night that came out last year? Can you give me an idea of how gross and gore-y it is? Because I'm kind of tempted to see it (because, um, David Tennant and his ridiculous charm will basically get me watching anything) but I'm not really a horror fan. 25katelisimOh oh oh oh! *hopping up and down* I loved the new Fright Night! Though I haven't seen the old one. . . it's on my list of things to watch at some point. I think it's on OnDemand right now, and I should prolly get to that before it's removed. Anywho, back to your question. There are some gorey moments (plus the last 10ish minutes, I think, it's been a while since I watched it--added to the rewatch list!), but most of the movie isn't. There is a fair bit of humor as well. And lots of people with charm ;) Go for it! 26saraslibrary#23: I grew up on some horror movies, not all, the obvious reason being I was a kid. Ageists. ;) You were lucky to have seen Nightmare on Elm Street that young. I think my mom would've poured bleach in my eyes if I'd try to watch that one. As for Dead Girl, The Collector, and Frontier(s): I definitely recommend all three. The latter two are more gorier; just a heads-up. Trick 'r Treat is that anthology one with maybe half a dozen stories that kind of link together. Hopefully I'm explaining that right. Anyway, here's a collage of pics that might jog your memory, if you've seen it. The Orphanage--yes! :) Good one. I was even lucky enough to buy a cheap copy. Didn't the same guy direct Pan's Labyrinth? If so, that's another good movie. It's more fantasy than horror, but very good. Sad ending, though. Thanks for recommending Detention! That one looks right up my alley (dirty movie ::crosses legs::). I doubt my library has it, but I'll look for it at HPB when I'm there next (which might not be for awhile; money's tight). #24: Ok, sisters-in-law are off-limits when it comes to elbowing. Understood. :) I honestly have no problem with people crossing the border to get better prices. Heck, we have special buses that take our senior citizens up to Canada to get their drugs, but that's because our health care is so messed up. Loved the remake of Fright Night. :) I don't know how gorey it is, though. I've been a little desensitized over the years, so... (shrugs) But if you want to give it a go, you can always fast forward through the vampy parts. #25: The old one's ok, but it's been forever since I've watched it, so I can't compare the two. But I agree--definitely a good movie; pretty funny too. :) 27katelisimI hear ya on money. HPB has it online starting around $7: http://www.hpbmarketplace.com/moviesearch?qwork=100535889&qsort=p&matche... too lazy to embed link right now. . . but I rented it from Redbox, which is $1.20/night. That's how I've been seeing most of my recent movies. I'm still unsure on TrT. . . sometimes horror movies just blend together. Pan's Labyrinth was Guillermo del Toro, who, I believe, produced Orphanage, but directed by someone else. GdT has a new one coming out soon, that I was excited about the trailer, but I can't think of what it is now. . . . just that it was a del Toro movie *le sigh Oh, and I like a gore movie every once and a while. . . but I usually want more story than they offer, that's all. 28MickyFineOk, I will probably try out Fright Night and then report back with a non-horror lover's perspective. Because let's face it, I'm a little enamoured with David Tennant. 30MickyFineYeah, I'm sure there are support groups. He's my favourite Doctor too. And Rose is my favourite companion. I'm a shipper. It's a long time failing of mine. :P 31ApeI loved the original Fright Night! I was excited to see they remade it, but unfortunately it's seemed to be a comedy, making fun of sparkly vampires and whatnot. *Sigh* I got bored after 5 minutes and stopped watching. :( 33ApeHaha, I'm not sure we'll ever like the same ANYTHING, Micky. Except our mutual love for Sara. Awww, c'mon ladies, group hug! *Opens wide with stupid and slightly perverted grin on face* :D 34saraslibrary#27: I didn't know HPB had an online marketplace now. Goes to show how often I visit them online. But thanks for linking to the movie. At least now I'll have an idea of what to expect to pay. $1.20 I could definitely swing, but on dial-up...I don't know how watching a movie would be feasible. Horror movies do tend to blend together. But what I like about TrT is that there several stories going on, so new things popped out for me. Going by his IMDb page, del Toro has quite a few things coming out in the next few years (none of which ring a bell for me). But I like his stuff, so I'll probably wait til it's released on DVD @ work. #28: Sounds good. :) Hope you like it! #31: Aaww. You've got to give it a second chance. It wasn't all pokes at Twilight. #32: Or the same books. :) 35saraslibrary#33: Oh. God. I'll just be happy hugging myself, thanks. :P Now go touch yourself inappropriately, y'perv. 37katelisim#34: Redbox is a DVD vending machine, not online streaming. So, as long as there's one near you (website has location finder), problem solved! 38saraslibrary#36: Up your butt? #37: Omg, I are so blonde. :o I guess I was thinking of something else. I totally know where our Redbox's are, so no problem there. Thanks! :) 42saraslibraryLube, my friend. And nothing bigger than a bowling ball. Just saying. It might be hard to explain that one to the urgent care team how you accidentally fell on a lamp or something. 44saraslibrary(trying to keep a straight face) Ok, I'm sure that does happen. I can even vouch for this, because I got some lube on a non-pubic region of my body once, and I got the worst rash ever! And it was freakin' vegan lube, too. Go figure. So my next recommendation would be Crisco, just because it sounds absolutely disgusting. :) 45MickyFineSkipping all the pervy stuff. So most of what happened in my absence. :P >33 Well, if I like you does that count as something? 48ApeWell, yes, but that's only because you are impossible not to like. Isn't that right, Sara? Awww, c'mon, it's not too late for a group hug! :D 49saraslibrary#45: Crisco isn't pervy. It's what you do with it that makes it pervy. ;) #46: Aww, we've all felt that way, Stephen. (pats the Stephy puppy on the head) #47: (snort) Nope, not conceited whatsoever. ;) #48: Normally, I disagree with you on everything, Stephen, but I'll agree that it's impossible not to like Micky. But I'm disagreeing with you on it not being too late for a group hug. I've already hugged myself tonight, so I'm set. :P You can watch Micky hug her moose if you want, though. 50ApeGeez, I really have to get on that early if I want a hug from you! *Camps out under Sara's bed and waits for her to go to sleep so he can hug her in the early morning hours* That wasn't creepy at all. 53saraslibraryYou just want to give me nightmares, don't you? Ok, Plan B then: I'm eating a ton of beans and rubbing Rogaine on my legs. Ha! :P 54saraslibraryDVD #31 ![]() Man on a Ledge directed by Asger leth Tags: action, new york, checked out from work, dvd, PG13 Rating: 4/5 56MickyFineY'all are just as nutty (and sweet) as usual. How was Man on a Ledge, Sara? I've read mixed reviews and I'm worried I'll spend the entire movie really anxious about someone falling off the damn building. 57saraslibrary#55: Yay! It's fetish night. (gets out paddle and hits the lumps in her covers) #56: Can nuts be sweet? I thought they were just salty and fattening. And hairy, if you're in Stephen's head. But thanks, Micky. :) I'm sure that was a compliment. Man on a Ledge was pretty good. It was your typical action flick (bad lines, excessive fights/explosions, annoying one-dimensional characters, etc), but I did like that most of it was filmed on a building and not entirely in a studio. I don't know if you'll be super anxious the entire movie, though, unless heights do it for you, fear-wise. If that's the case, then see it on the biggest screen you can. That should be fun. ;) 58saraslibraryDVD #32 ![]() The Dictator directed by Larry Charles Tags: humor, new york, politics, racism, terrorism, dvd, checked out from work, NR Rating: 4/5 Notes: Funny, but not for the easily offended (which can be said for all of the movies Sacha Baron Cohen's starred in). 59ApeOh! I actually want to see The Dictator, I think it looks hilarious. Now that my car is being fixed maybe I'll keep an eye out for it at the local library. :) 60MickyFine>57 Yeah, not a big fan of heights. So I'm going to watch it on a regular screen, thanks. :P 61saraslibrary#59: Your car's fixed? Good! :) Definitely look for The Dictator next time you're at the library; it's a riot. A few scenes were kind of slow, but overall I loved it. #60: If it makes you feel any better, Sam Worthington (I hope I got his name right) was scared of heights when he started the movie. I doubt it cured him, but at least you're not alone. :) 62katelisimGlad to hear The Dictator is good. While I like most Sacha Baron Cohen films. . . . most of the time, they seem ripe for flopping. 63saraslibraryI'd have to agree this probably wasn't the best Sacha Cohen film (it's kind of my least favorite, but then I haven't watched the others lately), but I'd still recommend it if you like his sense of humor. 64ApeYep, my car is fixed. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, that was my excuse to stay at home and avoid all the LTers passing through Ohio. ;) 67MickyFineHmm, everything seems normal around here. Report back on Fright Night which I watched yesterday: Horror flicks remain not my thing. I wasn't terrified but I did watch it in the afternoon and was doing laundry at the same time. The gore just isn't my thing (I said "oh gross" several times). That said, I heart David Tennant and he was absolutely adorable. Some of the dialogue wasn't half bad, but given that it was written by Marti Noxon who was a writer on Buffy, I'm not surprised. Not a bad flick but not one I'm likely to watch again. 68saraslibrary#66: Isn't it, though? I only slash the tires of those I care about. ;) Hope you were able to avoid your kidnappers! #67: Oh cool, so you did watch it! :) I'm glad you weren't totally turned off by the gore (I still don't remember the gory bits). And yes, David Tennant was pretty funny in it. Normal....hmm. Must remedy that (and it's Micky-friendly, too!): ![]() 75saraslibraryLOL! Why don't you both get sucked into each other's pervy circle? That way everyone's happy. :) And I stay clean and dry. 76saraslibraryDVD #33 ![]() The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross Tags: sci fi, action, games, based on book, checked out from work, dvd, PG13 Rating: 5/5 Notes: I haven't read the book/series, so I can't compare the two; but as a movie, it's very good. 77MickyFine>74 No. >75 No. No. Definitely not. >76 The books are much better. You should definitely give them a try. 78saraslibrary#77: No. No. Definitely not. -- What about if I wear a poncho? I'll be even drier. :) Or are you saying no to the pervy circle? :( ::sigh:: I do plan on reading The Hunger Games books, but I've seriously lost all interest in reading. I know that's a terrible thing to say (especially on a LT thread, and especially since I work in a library), but it's the truth. I love reading subtitles, though. Does that count? :) 79katelisimNah, not terrible. I go in media cycles of binging. Right now it's TV, with minimal reading interest. I've been working on my current read for 2-2.5 weeks now. It is almost 500 pgs long, but sometimes I can blast through that much in a day. Ah well. October always has fun stuff on TV. Like the season premiere of The Walking Dead tonight >:} 80Ape*weeps* I have Dish, so I can't watch The Walking Dead. I guess that's one more hour of reading I'll get done per week. Unfortunately I'm also watching Face Off and Ink Masters. I love the people on Face Off, I don't know if I've ever seen a competition show like that where the contestants actively help their competitors. Does anyone else watch it? 81katelisimBoo on the Dish Network business. You just have no luck with that stuffs. I've watched a few episodes, OnDemand when I need some filler show I can multitask to. And I know exactly what you're saying about helping the competition. It's so bizarre. I understood it when the brothers helped each other, but everyone else? So, so very bizarre. 82MickyFine>78/79 I'm also currently on a narrative diet that is more heavily weighted to TV and much lighter on the reading. 83saraslibraryGlad I'm not the only one not blasting through books. I don't have cable/dish/nada, so all I've been watching are movies. I've been wanting to watch The Walking Dead (we have the series @ work), but I'm averaging maybe 1 movie/week, so I doubt I'll get to it this year. Oh well. And I haven't even heard of Face Off or Ink Masters, so I'll just smile and nod like the idiot I am. :) 84MickyFine>83 I would say stream TV but then realized that your internet at home is run by a gremlin. So nevermind. Enjoy the movie-watching. *settles in to watch yet more Doctor Who* 85saraslibraryHa! So I have a gremlin and Stephen has hamsters (or were they squirrels? I don't remember). I like it! >:) Thanks, I'm watching an oldie perv movie: Wild Orchid. Sooo bad, but I can't help but watch it. 86MickyFineYup, you've got a gremlin and Stephen has a hamster. Such a cute couple you two make. ;) I just rewatched the delightful episodes of Doctor Who set in a library. *dreamy sighs* 89saraslibrary#86: Yes, you know I just had to google gremlins and hamsters. And I'm not sure we'd make a cute couple, 'cause our babies might turn out like this: ![]() What do you say, Stephen? Up for twins? :P Actually, scratch that. I'm afraid they'd take turns eating my innards before they're ever born. o_0 #87-88: I'll pretend like I know what you two are saying and just politely smile and nod like an imbecile. :) 91saraslibraryBook #49 ![]() Zombie in Love by Kelly DiPucchio Tags: fiction, juvenile, horror, romance, humor, zombies, picture book, checked out from work Rating: 5/5 92saraslibraryBook #50 ![]() Darth Vader and Son by Jeffrey Brown Tags: fiction, humor, graphic novel, sci fi, movie tie-in, series, star wars, family life, checked out from work Rating: 4/5 93saraslibraryBook #51 ![]() Skelly the Skeleton Girl by Jimmy Pickering Tags: fiction, juvenile, picture book, animals, dogs, monsters, ghosts, fish, bats, plants, spiders, checked out from work Rating: 5/5 94MickyFine*cowers at gremlin/hamsters* Looks like you're doing well on the watching and reading fronts, Sara. :) 95saraslibraryYou don't like my gremlin/hamster hybrid? :( Scary thing is I don't know who they take after--me or Stephen. Um, doing well. Yes, 3 picture books/graphic novels. That's bad. :D But I guess it's better than I've been doing. I seriously doubt I'll make 75 books by the end of this year (unless all I read are kids books). 96MickyFineIgnoring Shakespeare I'm not sure I'll make 75 either. And I actually am behind on Shakespeare too. Must make a plan! I'd say they take after Stephen. :P 97katelisimI'm only at 46 right now. I'm not even sure I'll make my usual mid-60s this year. I had fully intended on blasting through 1-3 books this week. . . but I've been terribly sick, like sleep 3+times more than usual sick, therefore killing any reading time I had. 98MickyFineOoh, sorry to hear you're feeling poorly, Katie. Hope you get better to the point where you can actually do some reading. Or, you know, all the way better. Whichever. ;) 100saraslibrary#96: I don't remember what number you're up to, but I'm pretty sure it's way up there, especially if we were to count pages. As for a plan, you could always make someone else read your Shakespeare, so you could read what you want. I'd offer, except Shakespeare makes no sense whatsoever to me! Agreed--they're Stephen's. :P I take full credit for their dimwittedness, though (is that a word?). #97: 46 is still very good. And I'm sorry to hear you're sick. :( I know how that goes--planning to read a ton on weekends/days off, etc--and then something fun like being sick happens. Hope you get to feeling better before Halloween! :) #98: Yep, what she said. :) #99: Hmm, they don't have my belly button either. I would say blame it on the milk man, but then I'll end up being the slut, wouldn't I? Or could we blame the doctor? Isn't it how you cut the umbilical cord that decides if you're an inny or outty? 101MickyFine>100 Yeah, I realized I only have to fit in 10 more regular books into the year which is probably doable. And I'm going to power through a bunch of Shakespeare this weekend. I do actually enjoy it, I just need to sit down and read it. And dimwittedness is a word despite what my Google Chrome spellcheck might think (it also doesn't think spellcheck is a word :P). As for belly buttons, I'm honestly not sure. But Wikipedia seems to support your thoughts. So I'd say those creatures are all Stephen's. ;) 102ApeThey can't be mine, I'm a virgin, remember. Unless Sara has been harvesting my sperm in my sleep again. 103saraslibrary#101: 10 is definitely doable. You just like shaming us, don't you? ;) Woah, dimwittedness is a word? Lucky me. I think. Ha @ Google Chrome. Silly technology. I'm right about belly buttons? Sheesh, that's a first. And thanks for linking to just the innie/outie section. Who knew there was so much useless info on belly buttons. :D #102: Yeah, that's what Mary said. (eye roll) Unless Sara has been harvesting my sperm in my sleep again.-- Would I do something as perverted as that?? I'm 104ApeMary had a man-friend, so OF COURSE she was a big fat liar. I, on the other hand, haven't talked to anyone of the opposite sex in...ummmm, 6 years. And just admit it, the ugly hamsters spawned from your vagina. Micky and I aren't judgemental or anything, we don't care. 105saraslibrarySweet. I'm gonna quote you on that--Mary was a big fat liar. :D I guess that's better than just calling her a slut. 6 years, huh? What about your mom? Or the librarians? Or your dog? Ok ok, I'll admit I impregnated myself. Now that's so much more believable than a virgin birth, isn't it? Actually, let's just leave it as some kind of "growth" that developed in my uterus after being abducted by aliens. That's much more believable. Though I probably won't get any child support from that. Hmph. Cheap alien bastards. :/ Btw, I'm naming my hairy devil spawns after you guys, so there. :P 106ApeI'm not going to lose my virginity to my mom or dog, and I only grunt 1-syllable responses to librarians, so... Both those solutions don't seem very plausible. Okay, so let's work through this, if you weren't impregnated then... *Light bulb* Right! Of course! They crawled into your vagina when you were paying attention and lived their until they outgrew your vaginal cavity, and then discarded it like a too-small sea shell. *nods* That is the most scientifically reasonable conclusion. 107katelisimI only grunt 1-syllable responses to librarians . . . . . some people don't want talkative folks in bed. 108ApeYes, but apparently you have to talk to people to get them to your bed in the first place, so I my point still stands. (And no, by 'point' I do NOT mean my penis.) 109katelisimI highly doubt that every instance of sex had structured sentences beforehand. Raves. Just sayin. And cavemen. There are probably more. 110MickyFineWow did it get super pervy in here... May be time to retreat to my Corner of Innocence. 111saraslibrary#106: Well, even if you were to lose your virginity to your mom or dog--or both at the same time--we wouldn't hold that against you. We're very, very openminded-- XD Nope, can't get the image out of my head now. Thanks. :P Your theory is, um, interesting. I'm not sure whether I should be offended you think I just let anything crawl into my vagina (what, I just walk around pantless all the time?) or that you refer to my vagina as a "too-small sea shell". I'll just wait til you fall asleep and then let my twins breed mini-monsters that will then crawl up your ass and gestate for awhile. I think that's fair enough. :) #107: (nods) #108: Not necessarily. Well, legally, yes. Scratch the kidnapping/date rape drug scenario. You could always contact an escort service somehow and claim to be a deaf-mute. Or a foreigner. Women love accents. Just say "si" a lot. #109: Good point. Swinger clubs. Pornos, too. Like you said with raves, bars could be included. Most are so loud all you have to do is mouth words then flash some fake money around. Easy score. #110: Oh oh! Make sure you cross your legs. Thing 1 and Thing 2 are in the process of procreating, so watch it if anything crawls up your pant leg. Or down your shirt. Or... yeah, it'd probably be best to just plug everything up. Enjoy the corner. :) 114saraslibrary#112: (averts eyes as Micky swathes) Ew. #113: Ha! I love that book. :) She might want to clean it first though. 115saraslibraryBook #52 ![]() That One Spooky Night by Dan Bar-el Tags: fiction, juvenile, horror, graphic novel, humor, halloween, short stories, witches, vampires, monsters, sea monsters, mermaids, checked out from work Rating: 5/5 Notes: Loved it. Perfect for Halloween--little bit of scares; lots of humor. This one's definitely going on my wishlist. 116MickyFine*chucks book out of corner* INNOCENCE! Just 5 minutes of innocence! Ok? *looks pointedly at the pervy crew* >115 The cover is very cute. 117Ape>115 The cover is very cute. Hahaha! I thought that was referring to the Snuggie book. I almost wish I hadn't scrolled up to double-check. 120saraslibrary#116: Ok ok. (googles porn for 5 minutes) And yeah, I loved the cover too. :) #119: Psst, and her personality, silly boy. Haven't I taught you anything? 121ApePfffft, ladies don't like guys that like them for their personality, they file restraining orders on them and then date the tall one. 122MickyFine>119 *looks down at own breasts* Really? You prefer those to my glasses? ;) >120 Thank you, Sara. That peace and quiet was lovely. :) >121 The tall one who likes their personality. :P 123ApeSo you agree that if 2 people like you for your personality, the taller one is better? :D Actually, no, glasses > breasts for sure. 124saraslibrary#121: True. Restraining orders are fun. :P #122: You're welcome. :) #123: Oops, I think he has you there, Micky. 125saraslibraryBook #53 ![]() Waga's Big Scare by Samuel Hiti Tags: fiction, juvenile, picture book, horror, monsters, checked out from work Rating: 5/5 Notes: Perfect for scaring little children. 126MickyFine>123 Mmm, it depends on how tall he is. I'm only 5'3" so if he's taller than 6 feet it becomes an issue. :P >124 Thanks for that support, Sara. >125 That creature on the cover looks a bit like your gremlin/hamster spawn. 127saraslibrary#126: You're welcome. :P What was I supposed to say? That women don't measure men by their height? Riiight, women are never that shallow. ;) That's probably why I picked the book up. The ears are a bit bigger on the Waga monster, but you're right, it could easily be my grandbaby. >:) 128saraslibraryDVD #35 ![]() Faces in the Crowd directed by Julien Magnat Tags: suspense, dvd, R Rating: 3/5 Notes: I really wanted to like it, but the face blindness/actor swapping was too confusing. Still, worth keeping; it was only $1. 129saraslibraryCD #24 ![]() Mondo Sex Head by Rob Zombie Tags: industrial, dance, metal, checked out from work, cd Rating: 5/5 Notes: Overall, I really liked it. Definitely more for fans of industrial/ebm/dance remix albums, since Rob/White Zombie purists would probably want to burn it. 130katelisimI always thought that Rob/White Zombie was very danceable. . . but people always look at me like I'm crazy when I say that. . . "It's rock, NOT dance". . . silly people 131Ape*Envisions a hot goth chick dancing sexily to Living Dead Girl* Yep, I can totally see what you mean, Katie. :D 132katelisimThe video for Never Gonna Stop Me has go-go dancers and references to A Clockwork Orange. At least Rob knows his music is both danceable and literary :P Also, he's super funny. I didn't realize this for years. /facepalm But, I guess that's mostly because I didn't see the music videos or his interviews til much, much later. 135saraslibrary#130: That's not crazy. I completely agree. It's the beat or something. Very danceable stuff. Well, not waltz-dance stuff, but you know what I mean. :) #131: *snort* Ok, Stephen has a point there, too. #132: Rob Zombie loves his go-go dancers. Lucky me, I just happened to click on that link during my break at work and my manager happened to walk by. Lovely. :P Yeah, he does have a great sense of humor. And money. Lucky so-and-so. ;) #133: (hugs Micky) You poor thing. We'll forgive you. Just this once. #134: And Satan and naked chicks. 138saraslibrary#136: If by underground you mean crypts and graves, then definitely! ;) #137: Even in Canada?? :o 139ApeSo THAT'S where they've been hiding? I wish someone would have told me this sooner. *Searches Sara's thread for a shovel.* 142saraslibraryI don't think that'll get you to the underground any quicker, unless you plan on smacking your slaves with it. 147MickyFine>138 Yup, even in Canada. It is colder up here so certain parts are... perkier? Seeing as you have the shovel anyway, Stephen, want to come to my house? We got a huge dump of snow and I could use the help clearing the sidewalk. 148ApeSara: Ohhhhhh... *Nods as if he understands* Micky: Oh sure, I'd be happy to. Hey, wait a minute, Canadians have sidewalks? 149MickyFine>148 :P Yes, smartie, we do. Well, those of us that live in town have sidewalks. Besides, you're one to talk. I seriously doubt you have a sidewalk in the middle of nowhere where your house is. 150ApeHmmmm, you make a good point. I would point out, however, that we don't need sidewalks with all the flying cards and teleportation helmets we have... 152saraslibrary#147: But I would suspect certain parts would shrink, too, in the cold. So that doesn't really help the girls out. Well, maybe the lesbians. But anywho. #148: (nods as well) Confusion abounds. #151: Better your face than--oh, never mind. :P 153saraslibraryBook #54 ![]() Lenore: Noogies by Roman Dirge Tags: fiction, graphic novel, humor, horror, monsters, series, lenore Rating: 4/5 Notes: Stephen's fault for making me read this. I mean that in a good way this time. Very cute, dark, funny stuff. 154ApeMicky: Better my nose than--oh, never mind. Sara: :P I'm glad you liked noogies, and that's definitely the worst one of the series. 155saraslibraryDarnit! I should've said nose. Oh well, you beat me to it. :P I'm glad that's the worst of the series (is that nice to say?). I thought I had others, but I can't seem to find them. I guess I should consider myself lucky I even found that one so quickly. Thanks again, Stephen, for the rec! :) 156saraslibraryCD #25 ![]() Remixes 2: 81-11 by Depeche Mode Tags: alt rock, dance, series, remixes, checked out from work, cd Rating: 4/5 157MickyFinePerv 1 and Perv 2. :P And you two can decide who's who. Glad you finished and enjoyed a whole book, Sara! Yay! 158ApeI would like to say that I would never have even thought of my pervy comment had Sara not posted hers. :P 159katelisimAhhhh, I luuuuurrrrrrvvvvvvves Depeche Mode :3 I saw them live in '09 and it was fantastic. I had to go all the way to NYC/Boston to accomplish that, since they apparently avoid the midwest like the plague. When I told my mother before I left, she said (in reference to her high school days), "Only the weird kids listened to them." Thanks mom. Thanks. 160saraslibrary#157: I guess I'll be Perv 1 since I'm the old fart of the group. That and I don't want to be #2 anything. XP Yeah, I'm surprised I actually finished a book that wasn't geared towards itty bitty kids. I wouldn't say Noogies is completely off limits to kids, but there were a few stories that might make parents cringe (ie, "Things Involving Me" where the writer/artist introduces his girlfriend and admits to rubbing raspberry jam on her butt while she sleeps, then produces this weird-ass dildo/lube contraption. Hmm, I wonder if they actually sell those....) So, are you still saying yay now, Micky? :D #158: Sure, sure. Blame me. :P Actually, I will gladly take credit for that one this time. Thank you. (bows, careful to cover her butt for potential wedgies) #159: Me too! :) I fell in love with them (especially the lead singer; can't for the life of me remember his name at the moment) back in middle school. You're so lucky to have seen them! I don't know if I could afford to go out of state to see any band, even if I wanted to. I hope it was an awesome concert. :) Aawww over the warm fuzzies from your mom. ;) Yeah, I didn't have too many friends who liked DM. Most of them said they were too depressing (hence their nickname Depress Mode), but they fit me just fine. 161MickyFine>158 Riiiiiiiiiiight. >160 I'm a librarian, I don't judge reading material. I just encourage literacy and interaction with narrative regardless of content or format. So yeah, I'm glad you enjoyed the... interesting... book. ;) 162saraslibraryYep, we're told to say the same thing to all our patrons, no matter how crappy the material (*ahem* Cosmo). :P Which, for some strange reasons, reminds me of an ILL request we got several months back--an entire black-and-white art book of naked pregnant women. Would that fall under "interesting" or "crap"? Inquiring library minds want to know. ;) (Btw, I'll try and see if I can recall the title/author/cover, because I'm sure Stephen'll want to ILL it next.) ETA: Found it! I'm surprised google didn't traumatize me this time. You never know what you'll get when you type in "naked pregnant women". Anywho, the book: Ripe: The Essence of the Pregnant Nude by Alexa Garbarino. I won't show the cover, just to be nice. :) 163ApeHaha, yeah, I've come across the various "porn in disguise" books in my library and can't imagine how someone could walk up to the check out counter with one. My library is small enough so that the disease books are just a couple shelves below the 'sex self-help' errr...things.... so I'm always faced with a wall of them when looking for books about cholera and smallpox. *Shudders* 164katelisimI forget that most libraries don't have self check out. . . . I don't have to interact with anyone if I don't want to. Which would solve any embarrassment issue, if I had any, lol. 165MickyFine>162 See, depending on the photos (and also the text) I'd actually file that one under interesting. >164 Same here, Katie. Both my local library and the library I work at have self checkouts so I rarely go to a checkout desk. 166saraslibrary#163: Ha ha, poor Stephen! Really, I love that sex and diseases are so close together. The two really go hand-in-hand. Groin-to-groin? Whatever. Either way, it always makes me smile when I'm shelving. :) Oh, and the period books. Aren't those somewhere nearby? That whole aisle is mostly chick territory, so I don't understand how you could complain, Stephen. Chicks in the library...reading about their periods. What's not to find appealling? :D #164: I think Ohio is the only state that doesn't have self checkout yet. ;) Thankfully, we have self check out here. One of the previous library systems I worked at, though, didn't have that, not to mention staff couldn't check out their own stuff, which was total b.s., imho. If we didn't have self check out, I'd be like Stephen--I'd rarely use the library. Or if there was a book I didn't want everyone knowing I read, just read as much of it at the library as I could, then come back whenever and finish the rest. I learned that trick from a patron years and years ago. He had so many fines on his account, he couldn't check anything out, but he loved to read. #165: Good point. I don't remember there being a whole lot of text. But then, I wasn't really reading anything, perv that I am. ;) Is it in Canada that they have self check in stations? Or am I just hearing wild rumors about you guys again? 167ApeI'm sure there are period books in there, but I've only ever glanced at (and blushed at) the spines. Except once the cover was visible on one because of the way they were shelved and it had a very explicit cover on it. I was rather shocked by it, actually, as it displayed a couple having sex with everything visible, and upon further inspection (how could I not?) I found that it was essentially porn, in the form of a 'sexual positions' book. Someone had apparently put it on the end of the shelf on purpose so I put it in its rightful place (buried in the middle of shelf) and decided I wouldn't "investigate further" when browsing that section any more. o.o 168MickyFine>166 We do have machines that check stuff in, although staff do still have to do some processing to make sure everything went smoothly. The ones we have at work (and my local) library are similar to this one (YouTube link, y'all with hamster/gremlin run internet). 170ApeYou failed to mention anything perverted in your post, that's the problem. Unless 'hamsters and gremlins' is what you kids are calling it nowadays. 171MickyFineBut remember I'm the non-perverted one on this thread, in case you forgot. I'm what keeps it from being struck by lightning. :P 172saraslibrary#167: Gaahh! You shoved the porn book in the middle of the shelf?! Now I know who that evil patron is who keeps doing that. While I'm shelving, there's always at least one book totally out of place, and it just drives me bonkers. The perv who was reading that porn book did the right thing--put it on display for everyone to see. :P That way staff can reshelve it appropriately. I am so visiting the library you will no doubtedly end up working at and totally reshelve the sex ed section, just to make you touch those books. You're welcome. :) P.S. We have a couple really awesome sex help books at our branch I should really donate to you guys. One is on disability sex (yes, even parapalegics {sp?? I'm google lazy} get it on), and the other is this gigantic book on lesbianism, which I am just astounded no right-wing christian wacko or horny teen guy hasn't stolen by now. (I don't worry about the lesbians. They're too nice to steal porn. :P) #168: I was lucky: I was at work, so I was able to watch the YouTube link. Thanks! :) I can't imagine our library system ever doing that, though. It looks like a waste of money. If patrons really want their stuff checked in right away, they just bug the help desk staff. Or stick their head in the return slot to bug us pages about checking their stuff in right now. I swear, one day I'm dumping a truckfull of Valium in our drinking water. There are too many cranky people who frequent our branch. Or maybe they just need an enema... hmm. Not sure why I'm thinking out loud, so I'll stop, because I'm not liking where this is going. o_0 #169: Ha ha! What? Oh, right, the dead silence. No, no, it wasn't you. I've been busy with life, work, and sleep. ;) #170: Or if you're Richard Gere. God, I need to find that Richard Gere pic I found the other day. It was hilarious. Brb. #171: Oh, phbbt. God doesn't bother with me anymore. He knows where I'm going, so he doesn't waste his breath. :P Btw, kind of a funny bit of library drama from work today. One of our notorious patrons (she's been kicked out of a couple other branches for stealing) was arrested today for trying to steal some of our DVDs. The funny/sad bit is that the woman is old, like in grandmother years. You would think it's just the teens who're bad all the time, but no, it's that kind ol' lady who sits next to you on the bus and knits sweaters for her cats. Actually, this one looks like she smokes crack and/or is cracked, but you know what I mean. Off to google Richard Gere and hamsters now. Oh, happy day. :) ETA: Goshdarnit, I couldn't find that pic. :( Why is it I google something gross at work and I find funny Richard Gere/hamster pics; but when I try and find the same pic using those tag words, nada? Oh well, I guess I'll just post this instead. You can click it if you want, Micky; just don't use your imagination, or you'll never want to eat a cucumber ever again. 173ApeOh no, the porn book was put in its proper place, which just so happened to be in the middle of the shelf. My obsessive-compulsiveness overrides my fear of human contact, I think. 174saraslibrarySeriously? I think I'm just the opposite. Fear's a big motivator for me to do/not do things. The OCD bit just comes from library work. Otherwise, I'm pretty much a slob. 175ApeFear and anxiety has pretty much controlled every aspect of my life for the past few years, but few things can stop me from shelving a book in its proper place. Unless there is a girl in that aisle. :o 176MickyFineLife, work, sleep. Puh (that would be a derisive sound of "they're not THAT important" ;)). I don't think any of my phobias interfere with my OCD tendencies so I'm all good. 178saraslibrary#175: Ok, girls down an aisle--I can understand that. Well, girls, guys, whatever. Unless it's covered in fur/feathers/scales, etc, I'm avoiding any aisle like the plague. Oh, and speaking of the plague, I saw this meh/ok movie last night--Retreat--which reminded me of you. Aawww, sweet of me, right? :P I'll post it later on my lunch break. #176: Totally not the case. 1) My computer is extremely slow (it took me 4 hours last night to keep rebooting my computer, only to miss out on my favorite radio show anyway ::heavy sigh::). 2) I have some personal life issues that've come up that're very draining, etc. Want me to make more excuses? ;) Kidding. You're still young. The longer you live, the bigger your fears get. I always thought it was the other way around, but there's always something worse out there. Wonderful, isn't it? :) #177: That'll be difficult. Some of my undies are multi-colored, so how would you do that? I'm actually kind of curious. 179ApeI'm totally flattered that you thought of me for any reason. *Blushes* Sorry to hear about the draining life issues. I find life in general to be draining, even when it's issue free, so you definitely have my sympathy. :( I don't actually know how I'd sort colored-anything. How about we just burn them. *Burns Sara's underwear* There, much better, now where do you store your pants? :P 180saraslibraryYeah, the movie had to do with a nasty little virus. So is that still flattering? :D Not to worry about my problems. Everyone's got them, and my headshrinker keeps telling me it's how you deal with it that helps. I know he's right, but still... Believe me, I won't go into all the personal tidbits. I really don't like airing my dirty laundry. Besides, it'd make me sound like an actual person, and we can't have that, now can we? ;) Burn my underwear, eh? You're just evil. At least you didn't say you were going to auction them off or wear them yourself or eat them. So burn away. And I tried to find a funny underwear-burning pic, but I guess this one'll do instead. (It's ok, Micky. Nothing too mind-scarring.) 181saraslibraryDVD #36 ![]() Retreat directed by Carl Tibbetts Tags: suspense, islands, england, checked out from work, dvd, R Rating: 4/5 Notes: Kind of like a subdued version of 28 Days Later (a deadly virus, Cillian Murphy stars, English accents, etc). It's more a 3-rating, but the strong cast and surprise, depressing ending made me bump this one up to a 4 (I'm sick of predictable, happy-ever-after endings). I'd probably recommend this one to fans of Cillian Murphy, Thandie Newton, and/or Jamie Bell; otherwise, pretty skippable. 182ApeYes, still flattering. :) Don't worry, I won't think of you as an actual person if you don't want me to. *Adopts typical male view of women as a vagina with legs* Is that your preference? o.o Hilarious picture, by the way. Hmmm, we haven't had a good mind-scarring image in quite some time... 183saraslibraryA vagina with legs? That's just...revolting. Ok, I only have a couple minutes til lunch is over, so let me get crackin'.... ETA: That was seriously tough! It had to be Micky-friendly and yet still really gross Stephen out. So why not tampons? *ahem* I mean, vampire tea bags. Oh, dude, wait--gross! XD I knew I should've done this for Halloween. 184ApeHaha, sorry, if you are trying to gross me out you'll have to do better than tampons. :P ETA: Okay, the face on the 2nd picture is strangely disturbing. 185katelisim181: I love both Jamie Bell and Cillian Murphy! I might need to watch that. Here's my contribution to the odd photos: Princess Clara and her Octopussoir -- Don't worry Mickey, it's a cartoon that was aired on TV. 186saraslibrary#184: Well, I guess I was trying to find stuff that Micky could click on. And men, in general, are horrorified by periods, so that's all I could find in a couple minutes of googling. (Btw, I didn't get to eat lunch, thank you. Actually, the used maxipad kind of curbed my appetite anyway.) #185: Ditto! :) I especially love Cillian Murphy, so I had to steal it from my coworker. Joking. She didn't even watch it, so I ruined it for her by telling her how it ended. Sweet of me, right? ;) Oh my gross. I usually see cartoon porn with the tentacles going in, not coming out. Makes me want to watch Teeth again, for some strange reason. 187MickyFineAnd despite the supposedly Micky-safe links, I clicked none of them. Also, even though I think Jamie Bell is adorable I don't think I'll be watching that movie. But I did watch M:I4 (again) on the weekend so that was awesome. :D 188ApeKatie: Oh...dear... Sara: I'm offended you lump me in with the 'average' man. *Pouts* Micky: They are very safe, I swear. One shows a cop holding up a dirty pair of underwear to a tracking dog, and the dog freaking out trying to get away from it (it's very funny.) The other one is just a halloween costume. Katie's is a girl with tentacles coming out from under her skirt... 190Ape*Blushes* I must redeem myself. I should be sad that I saw it almost immediately. ETA: Actually, I think the image is photoshopped. Oh well. :( 191saraslibrary#187: Aawww, hurt my feelings, why don't you? And I really tried to make them less gross than my usual stuff. ::pouts:: I haven't watched that Mission Impossible yet, even though I love Simon Pegg. My mom has, and she said it was pretty good. I'll have to try it--right after Magic Mike, of course (just got a copy @ work today, yay!). ![]() #188: Ok, ok, you're Super Average. How's that? ;) #189: Ha, I know! :) Finally, Stephen has found his calling. #190: Actually, you should get bonus points for that. I was staring at the mountains (not hers; the real ones up yonder). And yeah, it's probably photoshopped. Too much of a coincidence. Oh well. One day you'll find a penis in a photo, I promise. :) 192MickyFineI also was looking at the real mountains. Took me over a minute to figure it out. As for Magic Mike, let me know how it is. :D 193saraslibraryMe too. And even then I had to figure out the shape. How sad, right? ;) Magic Mike...hmmm, half-naked dancing guys. I think that about sums it up. I'm halfway through it, and I'm kind of going, "Ookay, now, the guys are hot and all. But is something actually going to happen?" Something must seriously be wrong with me. First the perv photo. Now Magic Mike. :( The perv part of my brain's been tampered with, I think. 194ApeI'm the same way, Sara. My sense of humor might be totally perverted, but sheer hotness is utterly uninteresting. I need a bit more substance to keep my interest, nakedness for the sake of nakedness is just yawn-inducing. I think I'm in the minority, however, as I'm pretty certain most people can be entertained by watching topless people do nothing in particular for house on end. o.O 197saraslibrary#194: I don't know if you're in the minority. Maybe the minority of male 20-somethingers, sure. But I think the majority of people have ADD/ADHD or actual lives that keep them from spending their time watching topless wo/men. I don't know. It's nothing I've ever really thought about. I just assumed the only people who kept strippers/prostitutes in the black were a small percentage of sex addicts/the compulsive types. #195: Yeah, actually, there is some pretty amazing dancing. I will give Channing Tatum (and some of the other guys) credit for that. I think I was just expecting more from Channing's life. The movie felt like it was more about his little sidekick (um, not that one; the other one--the blonde guy you linked to). 198saraslibraryDVD #37 ![]() Magic Mike directed by Steven Soderbergh Tags: drama, biography, tampa, florida, dvd, checked out from work, R Rating: 4/5 199saraslibraryBook #55 ![]() Dumbheart by Darby Conley Tags: fiction, humor, series, get fuzzy, comics, animals, cats, dogs Rating: 5/5 200MickyFine>197 *sigh* Alex Pettyfer. I have sat through some seriously mediocre movies for that man. ;) Maybe when the holds list calms down a bit, I'll snag a copy of Magic Mike. 201saraslibraryOh, how you must have suffered! :P I can't think of anything else I've seen him in. I'll have to IMDb him. Anyway, you'll probably like Magic Mike. He's in the forefront of the "story" (in fact, I felt like the movie was more about him/his character than Channing) and pretty semi-nude throughout. ETA: I just IMDbed him and realized I've checked out three of his movies--In Time, I Am Number Four, and Beastly--but I only watched a few minutes of Beastly before I had to return it. That's odd that his name/face didn't ring a bell. 202MickyFineI have watched Beastly multiple times (mostly 'cause my mom has it on the PVR and frequently turns it on for background noise and while not the deepest of movies it's not bad. The best parts of it are Alex Pettyfer's abs (and to a lesser extent his hair) and any second that Neil Patrick Harris is on screen. Also, Beauty & the Beast is my all-time favourite Disney movie so I will basically watch anything adapting that fairy tale. As evidenced by the fact that I watch the CW show, even though it is mediocre at best. As for I Am Number Four, I tried to watch it but not even Alex Pettyfer's abs could get me to through the entire movie. 203katelisimI didn't know NPH was in Beastly. Hmmm, I had no real motivation to watch it, but NPH might change that. I kinda liked I Am Number Four. . . but I like sf in all it's many forms, including terrible--so I can never really tell when a sf movie is *bad* unless people tell me, lol. 204MickyFineOh I'm a fan of sci fi (witness my many ST:TNG and DW DVDs) and I have pretty high tolerance for crappy movies if they have actors I like in them. But for the first hour of that film, NOTHING happened. It was all supposedly building tension but it was just... blah. That said, I'm glad you liked it, Katie. :) As for Beastly, I am a sucker for angsty teen drama so you couldn't have kept me away from that film. ;) 205saraslibrary#202: So the best parts of that movie are his abs, plus his hair, and Neil Patrick Harris, huh? I just got this weird smash-together image in my head of a hairy-abbed Alex Pettyfer on top of Neil Patrick Harris. How the heck did that happen?? Thanks a lot, Micky! Uh oh, I Am Number Four is that bad? Yeesh. I really did want to watch that one, too. Eventually. #203: I don't know. NPH was always Doogie Howser to me for years. Then when he was in those Harold and Kumar movies, I couldn't get that pervy image of him making out with their car seat out of my head. So now I can't watch much of him anymore. Bad...good...it's all just a matter of opinion. If you think it's good, then it's good. ;) I'm the same way with horror movies. Some I just love, even though they get terrible reviews, and vice versa. #204: Maybe I'll like I Am Number Four then, too, since I'm sci fi ignorant? Makes sense, right? :) 206saraslibraryCD #26 ![]() The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1: The Score by Carter Burwell Tags: classical, soundtrack, series, twilight saga, cd, checked out from work Rating: 4/5 Notes: Maybe I'm Twilighted out; maybe it's because this wasn't my favorite movie in the series. Whatever the reason, I wasn't really won over by this soundtrack, even though I gave it a 4. There are a lot of mushy tracks (not surprising since this is the wedding/honeymoon movie), but there were some decent exciting tracks as well. Too bad most of the songs average a little over 2 minutes each, so you don't really have time to get into them as much. Out of the two soundtracks I've listened to by Carter Burwell, I'd have to recommend his first score of Twilight over this one. 207saraslibraryDVD #38 ![]() The Woman directed by Lucky McKee Tags: horror, based on book, series, off season, checked out from work, dvd, R Rating: 5/5 Notes: The incest/kidnapping topics are more disturbing than some of the gore, imho. If you're familiar with Jack Ketchum (the cowriter of the same-named book), then nothing will be too surprising. Recommended only to horror fans. 208MickyFine>206 I agree the soundtrack for that one is not my favourite. However, the full CD with the score is actually quite good. I like that Carter Burwell brings back many of the themes he set up in the first film and which disappeared during the intervening films (due to different composers). Went and saw the last film in the series today and enjoyed it. And the soundtrack was much better. Bought the CD from iTunes so I can give you the full verdict but I think I'll like it much more. :) 209saraslibraryThe score was actually what I listened to, and for some strange reason, I wasn't all that crazy about it. Maybe I should give the CD a re-listen (can't right this sec, though; I returned it at work today). I had wanted to do a Twilight binge several months back, so maybe that break was enough to make me lose a little interest in the series. I don't know. But that's so cool you went to see the movie today! :) I'm saving my pennies to buy the DVD. As for the soundtrack, I'll wait to hear your verdict. 210saraslibraryBook #56 ![]() The Elf off the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition Gone Bad by Horace the Elf Tags: fiction, picture book, humor, christmas, elves, poetry, checked out from work Rating: 3/5 Notes: Not nearly as funny as I had expected (Horace the Elf could've been much, much naughtier). But if you're familiar with the children's book, Elf on the Shelf by Carol Aebersold, that this book spoofs, then maybe you'll find the humor. Maybe. I can't say for sure, since I haven't read it. 211saraslibraryCD #27 ![]() Eclipse: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Various Artists Tags: alt rock, soundtrack, series, twilight saga, checked out from work, cd Rating: 4/5 Notes: My two favorite tracks: "Heavy in Your Arms" by Florence + The Machine and "Chop and Change" by The Black Keys. 212katelisimI am not a fan of the Twilight movies, but I will give them this. . . they get great bands/music on their soundtracks. 213MickyFine>211 I really like both of those tracks too! Of course, I'm a pretty big fan of Florence + the Machine... >209 The soundtrack is not too shabby. There's some decent tracks and tracks that I think I'll probably like more after I listen to them a few more times. Hope you're having a good Monday! 215ApeSorry, Twilight and shirtless men. I, errrr, just don't have anything to add, really. *Puts 2 extra shirts on* 216MickyFineSo, in the ongoing tally of shirts Stephen is currently wearing that brings up to... 12? Plus 3 pairs of pants. Aren't you warm? 219MickyFineUmm, Stephen, I think you're at the wrong window. There are no bushes outside of mine. Just a big evergreen tree. 220saraslibrary#212: I think I'm getting old, because I'm not a big fan of some of the songs on the soundtracks; but overall, it's pretty good. I generally prefer the classical scores, though, on the Twilight movies. #213: Cool. :) I've been meaning to check out a Florence + the Machine CD, but I'm super lazy. I'll try, I promise. Eventually, eventually! :) Ditto on the relistening to certain tracks. Some were kind of meh, but maybe on a second listen, I'd like them better. #214: :D ...she was later found under her bed, covered in dust bunnies and cat vomit. Don't know where that came from, but yes, at least I'm alive. Somewhat. ;) (break's over; I'll get back to you guys when I get home) 222saraslibrary#221: Surprisingly, yeah, it was. Usually Sundays are super busy (that's one of the reasons they pay us time and a half), but today was eerily quiet (for our branch anyway). Yesterday was hell, though, so I guess it balances out. :) Oh, wait, backing up.... #215: That reminds me of one of the funnier scenes in Eclipse where Edward asks if Jacob owns a shirt (at least I think it was in Eclipse; and, yes, Micky, you can click the link ;). I can just imagine the staff on set telling Taylor/Jacob/Werewolf Boy, "No clothes for you, ever. We're on a very tight budget," and he actually believes it. Or you could be nice, Stephen, and mail him your extra t-shirt. #216: Holy moly. Only 3 pants? Tsk tsk, Stephen. You're halfway naked. ;) I feel more comfortable wearing tons of clothes, so I'm not one to make fun. I'm wearing 3 shirts at the moment, so beat that! #217: I think Muse did a couple songs on various Twilight soundtracks, but don't hold me to that. I have a very bad memory. But I do remember hearing/reading somewhere that Stephenie Meyer is a Muse fan, so I'm sure that had something to do with them being on those CDs. #218: *snort* He has an excellent point. #219: Oh, slightly awkward. ;) But now that gives Stephen something to go on. He'll probably lurk outside every window with a big evergreen tree, which shouldn't be too terribly hard in Canada. Yeah right. I should probably tell him I live near a Starbucks and see how long that takes him to find me in the Middle of Coffee Central, WA.
