It's SantaThing time again! I benefited from the generous sponsorship efforts for SantaThing 2010. I felt amazingly blessed that a total stranger would willingly spend money so I could participate in something that is so much fun. Last year I was in a better situation and could afford to participate myself but couldn't sponsor anyone. This year, I'm finally busy as a bee and making solid money. There is nothing I want to pass on more this year (except maybe my donation to Heifer International) than the joy of a SantaThing sponsorship. So, if you need a sponsor, for yourself or a loved one, please let us know here. If you are in a position to sponsor, this is the place to make yourself known.

LOOKING FOR A SPONSOR? If you need a sponsor, please leave a message in this thread. You don't have to go into great detail as to why you need sponsorship but feel free to say if you have any specific request. Lots of people like to sponsor students, single parents, gift sponsorships for children, etc, so don't hesitate to share your story. As far as I can remember, no one who has asked has ever been turned away. We have an amazing community here!

SPONSORS: The easiest way to make your payment (in my opinion) is to go to the SantaThing page and click Become a Secret Santa. Don't do anything but click the PayPal button of your chosen sponsorship amount. This will take you to PayPal where you can sign in or just make a payment. When you are done, click the Print link to find your transaction/receipt number. Send this number as a private message to your sponsor recipient and they can sign themselves up!

So, I'm offering a $30 sponsorship. I will most likely make a couple more smaller sponsorship offers towards the end.

HAPPY SANTATHING 2012 TO ALL!

I will keep track of sponsors and recipients here. Sponsors, feel free to grab those in need as they come in, but I will try to keep an eye on it to make sure everyone is taken care of. Please DON'T post transaction/receipt numbers in the thread- it will be the responsibility of the involved parties to coordinate the actual exchange- but feel free to share your joy and thanks and warm fuzzy feelings here!

I had hoped to be able to sponsor someone this year but instead I am looking for a sponsor. I am just starting a mind body awareness programme and any of the books listed below would help me:

The Mindful Way through Depression: Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness
by J. Mark G. Williams (Paperback), $14.77

Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness by Jon Kabat-Zinn (Paperback), $13.45

Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure by Caldwell B. Esselstyn (Paperback), $11.56

The Mindful Way through Anxiety: Break Free from Chronic Worry and Reclaim Your Life
by Lizabeth Roemer (Paperback), $11.53

This information is from Amazon.com.

Thank you.

Thanks to leahbird for starting the Secret Santa Sponsorship this year. It means a *lot* to me. In 2010 I asked for my daughter to be sponsored; last year my daughter and I were *both* helped by sponsors, which I hadn't even asked for, and it made our holiday much better than it would have been otherwise. In fact, the book choices my daughter received last year were *amazing* -- all 3 books she received became firm favorites, with one in particular becoming her favorite book of all time that started her interest in space (she is obsessed with "blast off" and for most of the past year, she has wanted to be an astronaut). I also love the opportunity to choose books for others in this wonderful community, since my financial situation means I don't get to give gifts to my friends or family.

I was so hoping that this year I would be able to sponsor someone else but life has not worked out that way. The social system does not help disabled people become safe, secure and self-sufficient like I desperately want and have tried to make happen. :(

On the basis I now have a 2-year-old on the edge of reading on her own and I'm heavily pregnant with my second daughter and laid up with a painful pregnancy hernia greatly limiting my functionality beyond my "normal" health issues for which having grown-up books would rock, I'm going to be very cheeky and ask if it's possible we both be sponsored again this year. I'm going to be even more cheeky and ask that my daughter be sponsored at the $40 level because she hardly ever gets to have new books that haven't been torn or written on by its previous small person owner -- if that request means that I as an adult cannot be sponsored because there's not enough funds to sponsor both of us, then so be it -- I'd rather her have the joy of new books than me.

Thanks to anyone willing to consider my request and I hope you all have a happy SantaThing 2012!

Don't worry, we'll get you claimed soon. Apparently the mad rush of SantaThing hasn't really started so I'm expecting this thread to get busy in the next few days.

It would be great if I were able to take part. Always looked enviously at the threads about SantaThing, but never had the guts to request sponsorship before. I'm a part-time student, have had Chronic Fatigue for 10 years and am trying to gradually do more with my life (a tiring process in itself).
If anyone is trying to think of books I really want, books tagged 'collection' in my LT catalog are the ones I want most (ones I own already are 'permanent collection').
Thanks all, and happy holidays.

Edit: I'm in the UK, for reference. Not sure if that makes a difference, but just in case.

This year, as in 2010, I find myself on a limited income because of unemployment. Last year, I was able to take part myself, but I am back to needing a sponsor again this year.

Please consider sponsoring an unemployed teacher addicted to books. I've had such fun the last two years.

I hate to ask because I have been sponsored before but times have been so hard. I am a stay at home mother and my husband only has part time work, he has tried so hard to find something else and we just literally have all our needs and never really our wants. SantaThing is my most favorite time of year and I couldn't imagine not being apart of it... Books are my favorite thing in the world, is there anyone out there willing to sponsor me and my son? If not me, please my son, I want to give him the world. :(

Well, since this is how we're doing it this year: I too am hoping to be sponsored. I love SantaThing (picking books for other people is at least as much fun as getting my own!) but I'm unemployed and can't afford it by myself.

I would very much appreciate a sponsorship this year. I, too, had hoped to be able to sponsor this year, but I cannot.
Since last year, I lost my home and spent 7 months in a shelter here in NYC. I now have an apartment of my own, but my funds are very tight.

Many thanks to anyone who can see fit to sponsor me, and thank you leahbird for starting this thread.

G'day,

If anybody is feeling generous, I would like to ask for a sponsorship for my four children. We are in the process of moving out of my MIL's house right now, so every spare cent is going on essentials like furniture, kitchen supplies, linen, moving costs etc. and there is no way I will have the money by the cut off date.

My eldest daughter (Butterfly) is fifteen and likes manga, historical romance, 'My Story' books and holocaust fiction.

My middle daughter (Annie) is eleven and likes twilight, dystopian novels and high fantasy.

My youngest daughter (Yasmine) is nine and is very much into goosebumps and similar books.

My son (Storm) is eight and is just learning to read chapter books. He likes goosebumps and choose-your-own adventure books.

I know four kids is a lot to sponsor and I will fully understand if people are unable or unwilling to do so. However, if you can, your generosity will be appreciated because my kids loved picking out books for people last year, as well as recieving something in return.

Thanks,

Nurture (^_^)

Only take this into consideration once the others are sponsored. I'm going to post a picture of my friend and her boy but she doesn't have alot of money and she a newlywed. She has had the year from hell, she just found out she is menopausal and can't have any more kids at 26, she just finished her cancer treatment for having vaginal and rectal cancer. She just found a tumor in her finger that just got removed she has endured so much pain, if you can sponsor her son it would be the world to her. (Only of seldom kids get sponsored.)

G'day,

Thank you so much for sponsoring my two youngest kids. They were absolutely thrilled to find out they are able to participate. They are already constantly questioning when they get to pick books for someone. They enjoy that part even more than recieving their own books!

We are all very grateful for your generosity. I hope that, next year, I will be in a position to pass on your kindness by being a sponsor myself.

Thank you.

I am going to give my mystery sponsorship to ladylenneth's friend, we talked about her in private message. I work sometimes close to 70 hours a week and hardly get to read and even though I love books this little boy needs it more then me. I am very thankful for my mystery donor and hope they understand this is what I felt God wanted me to do, God bless you whoever you are once again.

SantaThing sign-up ends in a little over 5 hours. Sponsors, make sure you've sent your recipient their transaction number. Recipients, make sure you've actually registered. Remember, your transaction number DOES NOT MEAN you've registered. You have to do that through the SantaThing page.

Hope everyone is all set for THE FUN TO BEGIN!

The only problem is that sponsorship is a member driven thing, not actually run by LT staff. They promoted it on the blog and in the main thread.
