So I don't really know what I'm doing here, except looking for a way to pick up more books to be read and reading people's interesting reviews. So far I've read:

1. This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It, by David Wong, which represents an abberation from my normal reading fare, and I'm practically ashamed to admit I read and liked it. This probably says something about a repressed slacker mentality with gross delusions that needs to be discussed in multiple therapy sessions.

2. Everybody into the Pool, by Beth Lisick: I was really hoping this one would be terribly funny and was kind of let down by it. It was amusing but with few laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed the Mission District street scenes more than anything else. If she has a better book that someone knows of, I'm still willing to give it a shot.

3. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg: One of those I should have probably read a long time ago and had somhow never gotten around to. I liked the multiple narrative threads. It seems a little dated now, but I still enjoyed it. I guess the stories basic bones were good, even if some of the themes aren't where they were in the mid/late 80s. I was disappointed that she apparently hasn't written any other LGBT fiction (has she? that was the impression I got from looking at tags on her other novels).

So hi, everybody, and I guess that's a start.

Welcome to the group and good luck! If you 'lurk' - or chat - around the threads I think you will pick up on many new books to read.

Hi there, welcome, and spot on about Fannie Flagg. No other LGBT stories.

Welcome to the group from a recent(ish) MLIS grad. I love the film of Fried Green Tomatoes but still haven't gotten around to reading it (bad, I know).

Hi, all, and thanks for the welcomes! Still getting oriented here (and overwhelmed by the number of posts). Good to see some other library people about as well as some other first-timers. Thanks also for the heads-up about the Flagg. Hmmph about that, though.
