Hi all. I've joined LibraryThing a few hours ago and I'm impressed already. It seems like a great idea, and the implementation looks fine so far. But let me try to talk about "books" and "sysadmins". :-)

Most sysadmins already know O'Reilly's Safari, I presume. I didn't for a few years.

Now most of the IT related readings I've been doing recently is from my safari library. Not that I don't like the dead tree format, but digital books are cheaper and more 'portable'. Also, IT books get outdated very fast, there's roughly a new edition every 3 years for most books, and having an old (useless?) book sitting in my real library shelves is sad.

There's only one big complain, though. I can't read the O'Reilly Safari in a handheld properly. It doesn't work well in my Palm Lifedrive, neither in the native browser nor in Opera. I even tried the '508 compliance' interface, which is in indeed simpler, but navigation is still problematic.

Last but not least, I canceled my subscription to Safari when I joined the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) an year later. Besides other benefits to members, ACM membership provides access to two digital libraries, including a 600 Safari Books selection. A yearly professional membership costs something like USD$60 and includes access to the "Digital Library" - which is huge. Just my 2 cents.

I hear O'Reilly is going to start making all their books available in Mobipocket format, which will work for your Palm.
